So how old do you have to be to drive on the RHDR? I know you definatly have to be over 18 , it doesnt bother me volunteering i mean at the end of the day your driving a real steam locomotive =)
@TrainAsia not necessarily: I'm a fireman on narrow-gauge in Switzerland, and I fire without gloves...it depends on how hot are the controls you're handling! a rag is sufficient
@cornholio435 Well you can always do a "Driver Experience" day. But you are young enough and near enough to get involved yourself and work towards becoming a driver. I would encourage anyone with a vague interest to - no matter where they live. Like Terence from Switzerland has done!
@trainsss 25 mph is the maximum speed limit. The timetable is designed to supposedly not need to travel any more than 20 mph as the track condition is not at its best in places. However this is not really feasible much of the time (if trying to keep up with the timetable). The line is 14 miles from one end to the other and takes about 1 hour stopping at the stations so the average is about 15 mph.
Stunning stuff, i have certainly enjoyed chasing Goddess up and down the line for pictures. Hopefully she will be the engine i get to drive on my driver's experience day.
When is it booked for Daniel? Loco will be out of service for a bit this autumn whilst the new tender is fitted - although exact dates are not yet confirmed for that.
Improvements are increased space in the driver seating area; sat further back and deeper footwell - same as new tenders on 5 & 6 - but some small increase side to side. Two lockers, one front and one back - includes battery and oil can storage - but more room and better prevention from rain-water entering. The beading will be stripped from the old tender for the new, plus bogies, frames and wheels. But I haven't actually seen it yet - it is in Shilling's workshop opposite the railway.
Goes well (if you know how!) and steams lovely. Quite similiar to how she used to be actually. She is a little down on power due to new smaller-bore cylinders (I took Hurricane out one day last week and was reminded how a Romney loco with old cylinders goes!) and being a bit tight still (although I would say she is well run in now) and not a whisper from the motion. I got all the lubrication sorted so don't have to oil too frequently. She's been an absolute joy to drive.
Have a look at dampfpaule or schmokko, its a great view of the night express

It has been booked for the 8th of November. Will the new tender look identical to the one she carries now?
Daniel5343 2 years ago
I believe it is mostly built and has the same outline - so nobody should notice much difference.
