Gil-Galad and Elendil raped Sauron. Peter Jackson said in an INterview that he couldn't find an a story arc to put Gil-Galad (Elronds half brother) in. Same thing with Glorfindel. it was Glorfindel not Arwen who took frodo to Rivendell when he was stabbed with a Morgul Blade.

i'm pretty sure this was the Siege of Barad-dur, not the Battle of Dagorlad, as Sauron didn't personally come out until the Siege of Barad-dur. Rogentix you were right in a way, Dead Marshes is what's left of the Battle of Dagorlad. but this battle here is taking place inside mordor, dead marshes is outside mordor

I believe Peter Jackson mixed the Battle of Dagorlad and Siege of Barad Dur together to a point where it all seems rather made up (hence the fighting on the slopes of Mount Doom). This scene is a fake battle. However, I also believe you are incorrect about the Dead Marshes, as the Battle of Dagorlad took place on a wide and dusty plain. The marshes bordered the battlefield on the west.

@Rogentx No, this battle was on the plains just before the entrance to Mordor (the movie incorrectly states it was on the slopes of Mount Doom). I don't think the battle that occurred at the Dead Marshes was ever identified.

@galept I can't remember from the books, but I always imagined it to be a massive battle, and they had to march into Mordor, so the battle could have started their and finnished at Mount Doom, to be honest it makes Sauron that little bit more badass that he went to the battle, rather than be forced from his Barad-Dur

@Jspheonix It was a massive battle (called the Battle of Dagorlad)--probably the greatest Middle-earth has ever seen--though it did take place outside The Morannon (the Black Gate of Mordor). There was never a battle on the slopes of Mount Doom, but there was a seven-year siege on Barad Dur after Dagorlad.

hahah the books...peter jackson changed things like crazy and he only added such an extremely immportant character for just about 3 seconds.....just like king elindel at 00:47...he was extemely important...but jackson only used him for about 10 seconds...these two characters i mentioned were the ones that formed the alliance of elves and men...yet they got the least amount of time...also, gil galad battled sauron but was killed by him...also not shown
