  • What battery do you use for your fish finder? Is it the Humminbird gel cell? If so, how long will it run your 385ci? BTW love the setup man! Well done!

  • @Jrock3227 The one that came with my 385ci kayak combo is a sealed lead battery, a GP 1272 made by CSB. Its a 7.2Ah, the gel cell is 7Ah so the run time should be about the same. I usually go out for 8-10 hours with the humminbird on the entire time. The only time it wouldn't last all day was when the temperature dropped to around 30°f last fall.

  • @NDYakAngler Where did you get the 385ci kayak combo from? Also, how well does it work with the transducer mounted inside the hull? I really like the 597ci DI combo but i think it might be overkill for my Tarpon 120 and i'm worried that the gel cell won't be enough to power it all day.

  • @Jrock3227 I found mine at gander mountain last spring. The transducer works great attached to the hull, as long as there are no air bubbles between the two it should work just as well as putting it directly in the water. The 597 draws almost twice the power the 385 does. It might run all day if its warm out, temperature is a big factor with these batteries. I would only lose 1-1.5 volts using my 385 all day during the summer, but I'll get about 6 hours on a full charge ice fishing.

  • @Jrock3227 According to my math, that 597ci drawing 615 mA should last about 11.4 hours on a 7 Ah battery under ideal conditions.

  • amazing home made swivel camera holder!

  • Outstanding set up. A place for everything, and everything in its place.

  • The camera mount is awesome!

  • Great idea for the light! I have to try that. Nothing beats night fishing for bass and pike with a jitterbug!

  • hey how is the mag touch rods i herd there good for the money

  • @bassdominator1 I'm pretty happy with mine, I actually have a couple of them. One of them I use on the river and have pulled in several catfish over 15lb with no problems. They're a great combo with an okuma trio reel. My only complaint was the handle is a bit long, but with this rod you can remove the end cap from handle and cut it down if you want. I took about 2" off mine and wrapped the handle in 550 cord.

  • Seen allot of fishing rigs but this is about the best set-up I've seen so far. Everything simple & clean without overdoing it. Thanks for posting it. I'm thinking of getting the Ride 115. I may set it up just like you got yours. I can't see at this time how I could improve on this. Where did you get that stake pole & clips that hold it on the tracks when not in use? Thanks for info.

  • @skjoyner Thanks for checking out my setup, I got both the pole and the clips from Austin Kayak. Hobie makes the stake-out pole and the pole storage clips are made by sea-lect designs. The part between the clips and the slidetrax I cut out of a piece of 1/2" black cutting board plastic I got from a local shop that makes display cases.

  • that light is brilliant!

  • That camera mount is absolutely excellent! You should consider detailing the install/manufacture so all of us non-creative people can shamelessly copy your exact design.

    Well done!

  • Nice job

    Camera mount is brilliant

  • What is the mount in the bow for?

  • @icords81 Thats another spot to mount the camera. I had my camera mounted there in my trolling video, its gets more of the kayak in the picture. I can also mount a flashlight there when I'm out at night.

  • Very nice job! Where did you find the plastic clips for your stakout stick?

  • @Txrammer I got them from Austin Kayak, the 1" sea-lect designs pole storage clip.

  • you have done an excellent job.. lot of great ideas on there. thanks for posting..

  • @NDYakAngler very nice set up. The camera mount is awesome, but the light is probably the most useful cuz night fishing is just so much fun, and without one of those it's probably hard to do in a kayak.

  • Nice Yak. Lots of great ideas. I like the camera set up. You need to patent that!

  • Hell of a set up man, makes mine look very very basic!! I love the camera mount that thing is genius. I would love to have something like that!

  • how much did all this cost you?

  • @edanhadj Well the kayak was about 1000, I got a great deal on the fishfinder new for 300, another 150 or so for misc parts and the RAM mounts and rodholders. I installed everthing myself so that was free. Most of the other stuff like a paddle, pfd, fishing gear etc. you can get for a variety of prices depending on the quality of the gear you want.

  • very innovative, good job

  • i am going to get tarpon 160 do you like it as well?? i do not fish much, will mostly use for touring

  • @MrSnubzy I like all the tarpons, the different lengths are all set up about the same. I can comfortably average 3.5-4mph and top out around 5.5mph with all my gear in my 120. The 160 should be a bit faster, but won't turn as sharp.

  • At 1:04 you show a bracket that you mount the back trolley rope to. Where did you find that bracket? What is the name of it?

    Thanks

  • @b0012wk I made that piece myself out of 1/8" aluminum.

  • Like how it is simple

  • you must be a machinist

  • This is by far one of the coolest setups I have seen. You did a great job especially with the camera mount. I really like that for getting shots of your fish. Great setup!!!!!

  • @ NDYakAngler, this is very helpful thank you so much! I am in the process of making a decision on a YAK and almost bought one without slide tracks.

What is the model of that Pentax camera?

  • @spydercliff09 The camera is a Pentax Optio WG-1. It works good for shooting video, but the picture quality compared to my Sony Cyber-Shot (both 14mp) isn't quite as good. The Pentax was the only waterproof camera I found at the the time that also had an optional waterproof remote. The remote doen't control the power on/off, just the record and zoom, so I usually just leave the camera on (2.5-3hrs battery life). Also it comes with a plastic "macro stand" that you can attach a 46mm lense onto.

  • hey, nice Yak! I am picking up a Tarpon 120 but it doesn't have slide tracks, there is no way they can be installed can they?

  • @spydercliff09 If your talking about the T120 ultralite or the old model (2008 I think) they don't have the recessed slot the slidetrax fits into. You could always bolt one on but it won't sit flush like it does with the tarpons that are made to have it.

  • I see that Penn sargus. I have 2. Greatest reel on the market

  • great setup man, love the camera setup and the idea of the mag lite as a beacon light :)

  • I don't know why I even watch these videos. They make me feel like a total bum.

  • Thanks for the comments everyone! I put up some pictures of the inner workings of the camera swivel on flickr for anybody who wants to try to duplicate it. Check the video description for a link.

  • I am so stealing the camera mounting idea ty and great all around set up

  • how much did the boat cost

  • @CLARKM127 I bought it new for just under 1000

  • think might need to get one

  • NICE set up man! Love the camera mount and the stakeout pole mount. I have a tarpon 100, so I will def use some of your ideas on mine. I ended up building a dash that fits into the slide traxx system, but it takes a bit of time to get on and off, so may end up doing something like the scotty triple mounted to the center console. But LOVE the camera w/the pulleys... genius!

  • Beautiful kayak man , love everything you've done with it. My wife always bugs me in my man cave ( the garage ) LOL. I say get out I'm busy , she laughs. Luv to drill and create , nice too see I'm not alone.

Thumbs up thanks for sharing your great idea's.

  • Question, do you troll with the ram tubes, do you find that they stay in place especially when the fish strikes?

  • @Fishnyak1 Yes I troll with them, although I had to move them forward another 6" so I dont hit them with my paddle. I've never had one move when a fish struck. The tubes I have are the aluminum ones and the ball part has a rubber coating so it feels very solid when tightened down. Also I forgot to mention in the video that I shortened mine by about 2" and added a piece of 1 1/4" pvc inside the tube part so it would have a better hold on my rod handle.

  • I like it, do you have a how to on your camera mount",,, I like how you have mounted the ram tubes, very well thought out.

  • @Fishnyak1 No how to video on the camera mount yet, but I plan on taking it apart sometime in the next couple weeks to make sure the internal parts are holding up. Maybe I'll get out the camera when I do that and explain how I put everything together.

  • Nice and efficient. I like your camera mount. My kayak is too small to add something like that to it (7' 7") so I made myself a hat cam with a 1/4" -20 stainless steel screw and a couple of washers. I screw the waterproof camera right onto the bill of my fishing hat like you would on a tripod. it works really great.

  • @dala555 Thats a great idea. Might have to give that a try sometime since i have a bunch of spare 1/4" screws laying around. I figured I would drop a few in the lake in the process of unscrewing my camera to switch batteries but it hasn't happened yet lol.

  • I've seen a lot of nice set ups. Gotta say really enjoyed this set up. Keep up the good work!

  • @jonramos4 Thanks, your video of the drum you caught on the Mississippi helped in my decision to buy my kayak last winter. I still need to get mine out on the Red River here and catch some monster catfish.
