Bocelli is a wonderful performer with true feeling. However, he is not in the same category as the true greats: Gigli, Caruso,Tito Schipa, Franco Corelli, Di Stefano and Carlo Bergonzi (still alive). okay, maybe i was exaggerating a bit, if that's how you understand it. but also, it depends on the aria/song they're singing. this is a sacred aria, and very few tenors seem to captivate the audiences' soul as much as bocelli does.

I'm not sure I agree and it is an exaggeration...although Bocelli certainly has a way of evoking feelings from his singing..but he certainly lacks an opera singer's power and technique

I admire in mr. Bocelli his sensivitiveness of his phrasing and the clearness of his voice. So I love to hear his italian songs, but rather not listen to his opera-performances. There are so much tenors that can do better. It is roughly the same as the great Mario Lanza. He has beautiful songs and very fine performances of musicals (The student prince, the desert song,etc), but is an amateur in opera.

But... this is only my opinion.
