@dare2dream23 Thank you for your comment. This clip comes from an amazing TV special called 'John Denver's Rocky Mountain High' which features several live songs from the 1973 Red Rocks concert, though there are also songs, where the camera cuts away to a video of John in the mountains, that may not actually be from the concert itself. One of these videos features 'Annie's Song' which I am sure could not have been performed at Red Rocks in 1973.
@michaeldonegan Hey Michael. Just to clear up the confusion. JD actually wrote Annie's Song in the fall of '73 and this concert was shortly after that towards the end of '73. It is true that the song was not officially released till the summer of '74 on the "Back Home Again" album and was #1 in July of '74- the same week they adopted Zak!! NOT a bad week all in all!!! SO it would have been perfomed at this concert!! I know- I had to ask and was told this!!!! That's the answer!!
@puck57 In his own autiobiography, on page 94, John says "I wrote 'Annie's Song' riding up in a ski lift one day early in 1974. It was soon after our first serious separation, and we'd just come back together.' Could John be mistaken?
In the film from the concert we never actually see John sing 'Annie's Song'. The camera cuts away from him standing at the microphone before the song begins and cuts back to him at the end. For this reason the song looks like an insert.
@michaeldonegan Hey Michael. You ARE correct from the autobio he does write "early '74". Do you have the clip from Red Rocks of "Annie's Song" that could be posted? I know on some of these songs they do put the background footage in soon after JD starts the song from this concert. Thanks Michael.
@puck57 I will try to get it posted tomorrow. Unfortunately I am soon going to work so I just don't have time.
I have just viewed the clip again. What I saw is John standing at the microphone, and a few bars of the 'Annie's Song' melody are heard. The camera cuts away before he starts singing. The camera does not cut back to John until the song is finished. I saw nothing to suggest that he was actually singing 'Annie's Song'.
@michaeldonegan No problem at all Michael. If or whenever you are able to post it that would be great. I kind of remember seeing it when it was up for a while but then it has been down for some time. Thanks Michael.
Wow great recording, really good audio! Love this rare concert, and what a superb orcheastra! I always love this beautiful song whom John had the privalige to present :D
Honestly sometimes I WISH I wasn't 54 years old, yet if I wasn't I would've missed enjoying John and his lovely music.

@michaeldonegan Do you know where I could buy this TV special from? I have looked on the internet for it and can't find it anywhere. Thanks.

A wonderful example of how good John could be with an orchestra sometimes along with some of those great players like Steve Weisberg, Dick Kniss and
what great fun to see Paul Prestopino too!
