Mandarin is the officially recognized language but technically Taiwan has its own original language which is Taiwanese. Japanese is spoken there by some of the older generation as Taiwan was under the rule of Japan for a long time..(1895–1945)

@o2dec95 Chinese isn't a dialect.. It's shortly said a collection(?) of various dialects. The main 'dialects' in the People's Republic of China are Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese, but there is also Hokkien, Shanghainese, Sichuanhua, Wuhanhua, etc.

@buttdrop There's no such thing as ' taiwanese" chinese. Theres mandarin, and then there's cantonese. Technically cantonese isn't even a language, considering how its just a dialect. Therefore, there's only "Chinese".
