Originally penned by Van Stephenson for his "China Girl" album. He wrote a bulk of tunes for Restless Heart & Giant, both of which included members of Van's backing band. Phenomenal songwriter.
This is my favorite Restless Heart song!! Thank you so much for posting it!!! It is one of their songs they never released. I had their album back in the day, but it is long gone now. I LOVE this song!!! I never thought I would ever hear it again, but thanks to you, I can listen to it when I want to!!! AWESOME!!!
this is the song my dad used to use for my lullaby. still makes me smile. We have a video of me as a baby falling asleep in my father's arms and he danced and swayed me to sleep.
I remember when this song came out! I met a girl out in Upstate NY. back in 1987,.......We became good friends. I use to fuel up where she worked. We usually talked & swapped stories of our lives & what we were up to! About 2 years later & As time went on, We had lost track of each other. I found myself running to mostly the westcoast a few years later & not making it back. This song will forever keep her in my mind! Oh the fond memories! Thank You for sharing this one with us!
I heard this song ONCE in the 1980's and wondered who did it. Then sometime in the new millennium I heard it by Restless Heart. Now I am listening it for the second time in full. I want to get both versions! I waited over 20 years to hear again.
@gallegosajg I had the pleasure of feeling this song back when it was on the CD release in 80's. It's a part of my youth - younger manhood. My manchops. My motherload of manchildness. I LOVE THIS SONG !
@gallegosajg Ok that was wrong, and i was just kidding about the rock.........the truth is i will never forget the day my girl friend came over in 1994 and asked me to play this song for her, but before i could she had fallen asleep on the floor while i piddled around lookn for the song, so when i finally found it , i played it with the repeat button turned on and it must have played 20 times for her while she slept.
Van Stephenson also co-wrote "The Bluest Eyes in Texas" as well as several additional songs for RH. He was a founding member of BlackHawk, penning the hit "Every Once in a While". Van passed away in 2001 from cancer.
On my list of top 10 favorite songs ever - this is one of them. I got to meet the band in 1993 and they autographed this CD "Wheels" for me. I didn't freak out but they had no idea what that mean't to me. This song is brilliant and has been since 1986-87,
I know this song from a duet called Downes & Price.
I have their LP with this song from 1986 (Atlantic Records). I believe that the performance of the song from Cliff Downes & Jimmy Price it's much better from Restless Heart. Ι don't know who owns the first performance of thιs song. Restless Heart singers the song the same year 1986.
When I was a dj at a country station in the 80s and early 90s, I would grab the album and play this song. I got in trouble for it but I played it anyway. this was when country was crossing over heavily. I didnt care, this band....especially during this time.......had it all.
I too love this song but the issue with the song is the age of the character in the song. WTF?

I know what you mean. Sounds like something America would have written. Very un-country.
