Come on kids...I think based on the speed of the vessel, they were bored. Been there, seen it many times. They really liked my cat better but were of sufficient mass to actually move the bow. Not going to happen agains the mass of of a W-32.
Yeah, well...on my Hans Christian 38T, we RUN OVER those pesky dolphins...and try not to encourage them swimming along side the boat and stealing our "water." ;-) Good video, guys!
@dotyrs I was looking at the Hans Christian 38s, but couldn't afford one. Nice boat though. But as time goes on, I'd go smaller and smaller. Maybe a Bristol Channel [pilot] Cutter.
Don't f' with the dolphins, though. They don't hurt, and have been known to help certain sailors. Yea, they can be like a bunch of kids in a skateboard park, but there is always an adult not far away who is paying close attention. You'd rather have them on your side.
It's not really appropriate for the kind of sailing I can do right now, daysailing or weekends. For that, I bought a Marshall Catboat. The Westsail was meant for world cruising. Hard enough to maintain one boat, so, one or the other has to go.
Yea, Dec. 21st, 2012 is the last day of the Mayan Calendar. They felt they didn't need a longer calendar, because that was when the world was going to end...
@mdougan1000 According to a mayan chief, they never said the world was going to end on that day. That came from us. As fars as the Mayans, they said that was just the end of that particular calander just like Dec 31st is the end of one of our calanders.
mdougan1000, we sailed an Alberg 30 in 2002, this is why we need somthing larger. We sailed(2) as far as the DRepublic, and loved it the 365 ketch is a Pearson. What are u selling ?
This is why I want to do it again , while I am able to raise the sails !! the plan is to sail away again by 2012. destination not certain. any 365 ketch for sale ? peter in Clearwater, Fl
If the Mayan's are right, you should plan for early in 2012! Not sure what a 365 ketch is. Westsail made some boats in the 42 foot range, and some of them are ketch rigged. Personally, the best advice I got was get a smaller boat than you think you are going to need. Turns out, 32 feet is plenty for me, and I could probably go smaller. My boat's for sale, check out the tour videos under my channel.
Everyone wants a sailboat and just get away from our hectic or boring lives....
It's the ultimate dream to sail away into the beautiful sunset, but the realty sets in pretty quick when you're out there in the big and vast ocean and the waves are breaking over your little boat it makes you pretty scare if something should goes bad and your boat gets disable. Heip may not be to quick to come to the resue as your survival skill will need to go overdrive to save youself, something to think about.
Get a Catamaran. The possibility of sinking of 37ft or longer catamaran is close to unsinkable besides you still have the dingy if ever and get a satellite phone just in case lol... With great technology we have now the chances of disaster is very quite slim specially if you done your research and hone your skills very well
makes me miss my trip from westbrook ct to titusville,fl it was a blast after the first 2 days and the fog moved out, got followed by a huge shark. Loved the trip...first solo
The first song is called Dolphin Dance, from the album Underwater Sunlight by Tangerine Dream. The second song is a Bob Marley tune Waiting in Vain performed by Annie Lennox. The third song is called Song of the Whale, also from the Underwater Sunlight album by Tangerine Dream.
Well, the boat has about 7,000 lbs of lead in the keel, so, it would take a lot more than that to tip it over.
We had to sail in a direction that was sideways to the waves, as we were trying to get further away from shore, and this makes the wave action much worse. It was really just uncomfortable, not dangerous.
I guess knowing is half the battle. I have very little experience sailing boats over 14 feet. How much does a boat like this cost? And how much did it end up costing for the whole trip up? Food, moorage, gas if at all? Did anything break? I'm thinking about getting into sailing (Pacific Northwest) and the "cheapness" of it appeals to me (as opposed to motor boats).
This brand of boat, Westsail, has a lot of admirers (because they are well built world cruisers), so, they typically cost between 30-50K. The trip didn't cost much, as it was non-stop. We used exactly 35 gallons of diesel. Out of 9 days, we spent 7.5 sailing, only the last day or so did we have to motor. Only one line broke from chaffe. Simple food for 3 people, not very expensive. Some people cruise in places like Mexico for as little as $5-10 a day.
Thanks! It was a good trip, though, the few days that saw some nice little squalls in the beginning couldn't be filmed! But, the Westsail didn't mind them, in fact she seemed to be in her element when the wind picked up!
I felt seasick just watching. Are the waves always that rough?

Both Albergs and Pearsons are great boats. Sounds like you know what you want. Mine is a Westsail 32, gaff-rigged :-)

The swaying wouldn't make you nervous if you were onboard - it works like a cradle, the ocean's sound a lulaby, and the wind a soother.

Around 4:45 ish the boat seems to sway or list or whatever its called. That would make me so nervous
