Are you sure this one is for PS2? The graphics seems to a PS1 game... Anyway, compared to Xbox 360 Golden Axe, this one is good... But Mega Drive/Genesis one is still one of my favorite games... The music sounds very good!

@danirannavit Are you talking about Golden Axe: Beast Rider? If so, Golden Axe from the Sega Ages still holds the Title of the Worst Golden Axe Game.

Beast Rider delivers a Adventure Experience. Sega Ages Golden Axe is like an Arcade and I played it before, not a worthy game. Only beat it on Co-op.

So, did you played both games? Or did you just saw them by Gameplay? You have to play at least one of them.

The graphics. Just impressively bad. I thought that the average high-budget PS2 game looked like utter crap on an HD screen, but this is the bottom of the barrel. It is the top of the barrel for Nintendo 64 games, but not for a system that is clearly more powerful than the Nintendo 64. The fact that Tyris is scantily clad does not save her from looking like doggie doo-doo.

I see a lot of great ideas in the game, I'm just not sure they were executed the right way. It still looks like a good game and it is great to see all the old levels in a new light with all the new detail. I prefer re-treading old ground in a new way rather then making something new and rubbish and setting it in the same universe.

A lot of games utilize 3D when it doesn't really require it, and this is one of them. Also, with hack & slash games, why is it that developers feel the need to have every weapon hit give off beams of light? Games like Golden Axe were always about old-school 2D blood and guts. Superfluous additions add nothing to the game and can even detract from it.

I completely agree with you. And about 3D, it's always easier to develop a game in 3D since there are ready to use 3D engines and it's time consuming to code a new 2D engine from sratch and make 2D game assets.

Diablo 3 is a good example to this. I think Diablo was way better looking in 2D but it is very time consuming for the developers to create interactive 2D assets since in Dİablo 2 you can literally wear or carry tons of different items that needs to be drawn in 2D.

I actually don't think this looks half bad. I prefer the first and second golden axe 3 was ok i guess but this doesn't look like the worst golden axe I've ever seen. Beast rider is definitely the worst. The animation looks weird and the music sounds a bit too upbeat. I'm getting the Sega classics collection for Virtua racing and i figured I'd look this up. I'll give this one a shot. Why not i liked Batman forever on the Sega Genesis and even Sewer shark on the Sega Cd!!! Lol!!

The Classic is better. This version is awful. With the Gameplay, it's actually dreadful. I only beat the Game on "Co-op", but on Single Player, could never beat it. It was that bad.

Multiplayer was good, but, Classic beats it. There are Extras like Survival by attacking Enemies but you really can't go far, with the Gameplay and all. Text instead of Voice Acting, and no Firewoods (Only as a Scene)

Normally, entire Collection. This is the least, but it does beat the PS3 Golden Axe.

This version is quite good, I don't know why everybody hate it. It's Golden Axe with better graphics. The only horrible things are the cut-scenes.

Such a shame the developers had no competent graphic designers working for them, or animators for that matter, the animation is TERRIBLE, quite easily some of the worst I've seen. The single polishing this turd of a remake gets is that the controls can't possibly be any worse than those of the original (which were horribly unresponsive arcade controls designed to eat quarters), and that the soundtrack update is AWESOME.

If they had put some EFFORT into these remakes, they might have sold

@NerissaVal I think so. I think neubies at Sega were given the task of doing this game. Granted, the music is good, and I do like the HUD system in this one, as well as giving the enemies their own HP indicators, but nothing beats the original Genesis version.

@ixekun As far as gameplay goes, yes. I played Golden Axe enough to eventually, with a bit of luck, clear the game on one credit but playing this version is very awkward. It might be easier for someone with less experience with the arcade/Genesis versions but then they'll probably scoff at the dreadful graphics. It doesn't really appeal (IMO) to the old school fans or attract any newcomers to the franchise or genre.
