Hey Mike, I've been working on this fill for over a month, and for some reason I cant get the part during the 3rd measure. I can get it when its played painfully slow or when it's played half speed like "1+2+3+a4e+a1e+a2+3+4+". Any suggestions for working this speed up? I love your fills, can't wait for your new one, already got your 5/4 Paradiddle down :) Peace!
hi mike i would like to know how to put your channel so you tube like this and the pictures you have when going to comment any video is cool because she tells me wanted to do something like
FINALLY, a teacher who understands how to teach. You give me a slow demo, with a click track, and the music and good video angles. Fantastic sir! Thanks so much.
Hey Mike, I'm a beginner drummer and was just wondering what time signature is this in? I've only played in 4/4 and have just started doing a bit of 12/8 pop grooves.
That's all i need bro, your help will be highly appreciated :)
Any chance you can tell me what reverb u got goin on on the snare? it sounds brilliant bro. It sounds like you got a slight pitch shift happenin on it too. Man ur drumming is so musical, and the lessons gotta be the best. Just subscribed today. Thanks for whatchu do.
@DrummaAddict i know right??? what drummer does not think that is atleast somewhat cool enough to have to dislike it? i think all of mikes videos are very education for drummers and he always has some sort of cool new technique or fill that can be incorporated into many various styles of drumming.

Wow £20 a month for 40 minute lessons with frankly a beast drummer, Yet i pay £52 a month for a 30 minute lesson with a nobody drummer? WTF? AM I INSANE? MIKE YOUR THE MAN!
dude Mike - have you ever considered putting out some kind of album with a couple of other musicians ? maybe something more drum-oriented ? (if you have already - sorry for the ignorance and WHAT IS IT?! koz i want it!) i mean some of your beats are just slammin' dude!! i dont even play drums! im a metal guitarist - so i might be kinda out of place here! but i dont care! i need to listen to you play drums dude! its too inspiring to miss!

Hey Mike! Dude I can't say enough about your drumming. I'm a beginner(somewhat), but i can still play some beats that are complicated to some intermediate players, I've come a LONG way in the year I've been playing. But watching you, man, is seriously inspirational. great job for motivating me to be the best I can be! You rock and I'm totally subscribing!

@drumteacher76 Hahaha. Yes, I had this same debate with a friend years ago and I emailed Paiste just to clarify. They said it's pronounced like "FEISTY".
LOL I thought at first that Paiste was pronounced "paste" too. I guess that's people's way of determining whether you've been drumming for long or not.
Hey mike you should show how you tune your drums cuz I absolutly love the way your drums sound. I would love to have my drumset sound like yours cuz your drums sound amazing.
"you could always use more cowbell" xD those little comments Mike always makes are what make the videos fun to watch [other than the actual learning of new techniques] GOD BLESS YA MIKE (:
yo mike you are my favorite drummer on the entire planet. you really enspired me to become a better drummer. i was wondering how much rudimental time you put into rudimental and bass drum practice when you were younger, or now for that matter, and i was wondering what the age limitations are on your drum camps. thanks
Dude i love your grooves. I actually listen to metal/hardcore, but i really enjoy groove stuff. My biggest influence in metal right now is blake richardson, but dude your seriously a grove machine,\\.....freaking love it. What time are your live lessons? Oh and whats your opinion on custom drums. I fee like all your paying for is the name and the brand
why do you always take your lessons down? i wanted to check out the video that this one came from and was extremely disappointed to not be able to find it
your videos are the reason i started playing drums, i have spent the past 10 years playing guitar and bass in bands, but recently purchased a gretsch 7 peice kit without coming across your videos 6 monthes ago i would have called it quits on playing music altogether, thank you for inspiring me, i now practice 4 hours a day!
hey mike, for the last 3 sixteenth notes have you ever thought of adding a six stroke roll? i was playing around with this groove today and added the sticking RLLRRL with the singles on the snare and the doubles on the toms. it adds an odd syncopation i think you would appreciate.
I'm also a drummer, I have a great interest in cymbals I was wondering where I could buy the 16" Paiste 20 series regular crash & the 10" Paiste 20 series splash?
hey man, i love learning all ur linear patterns and creative drum beats. however, i have a much harder time when i start moving my hands to different parts of the kit like u do. is there some advice u can give me that might help me with that? any help would be great! :)
Hey mike, i just made my own stacker cymbal but im not quite sure how to incorporate it into my drumming. Do u think you could make a video of some beats and what using yur stacker so i could get an idea of what i should be doing?
@DoctorWa: You have to ask the store to order them from VATER. The official release date for the sticks is Dec 1st. On that day I will give you guys a link to order them online and have them shipped to your front door :)
While watching this video of this tasty groove (oh yeah, it's tasty) I noticed that you aren't using your Mike Johnston signature snare. What happened to that? Oh and I'm liking the sound of that ride. Really awesome video as always! Thanks!
@stinkymlinky come on u cnt believe dat....i mean for extreme tempos u jst cnt play with one foot u need the second one also...using double pedals where u cn play with one foot is for kids though
i have been following mike for some time...y doesnt he do double bass lessons (with 2 feet ofcourse :D ) you know just something for the metal heads :D
Every drummer on earth should send Mike AT LEAST $20 a month for the LIVE lessons. He's a beast AND he's humble! I bought a ton of his lessons and downloaded them to my iPod and he has made me a MUCH better drummer in waaaaaaaay less time than ANY other person or method. Thank for doing what you do Mike!!! :)
mike iloved the video. I will post a video of me doing the same pattern but in a different way in a sec. In a week or so i will be on live lessons 0-0!!
Thanx for the "pepamint" Mike! I learned it in a few tries, now I'm just trying to move it around hitting whatever is on my way (even people) cause I'm not as cool as you to have a crash on top of a ride =P
This is what I love about this guy. He actually listens to what people are saying, which is why we have an explanation of this fill. Learning something new should be a mutual process between the one giving instruction and the ones receiving it, and Mike's got that down.
I've gotten so much better because of these lessons.
im seriously considering joining mikes lessons seeing as my teacher can no longer teach me......sad face........And I really want to continue my drumming :/
Thank you so much Mike for putting these free videos on YouTube. I know they probably cost you money in the long run, but they really help us all out. Thanks again, Mike!
You should. I've been playing for over 12 years, but have learned more in the past year and a half with Mike than ever before. It's definitely worth it. Hope to see you in the lessons.
Mike, that fill at 7:37, is that just a triplet fill? I can never seem to get those down pat!

While watching this video of this tasty groove (oh yeah, it's tasty) I noticed that you aren't using your Mike Johnston signature snare. What happened to that? Oh and I'm liking the sound of that ride. Really awesome video as always! Thanks!

@stinkymlinky come on u cnt believe dat....i mean for extreme tempos u jst cnt play with one foot u need the second one also...using double pedals where u cn play with one foot is for kids though

i have been following mike for some time...y doesnt he do double bass lessons (with 2 feet ofcourse :D ) you know just something for the metal heads :D
ttanmay 1 year ago
@ttanmay because i remember him saying that 'double bass pedals are for kids' and doing double bass with one foot builds your strength loads :D

YES! Something with no fast left hand movements! I swear I'm learning this tomorrow, I've been looking for a good use for my stack. Thanks!

Man, I love that Dark Metal Ride. If any single cymbal would convert me to Paiste, it would be that one.

Thanx for the "pepamint" Mike! I learned it in a few tries, now I'm just trying to move it around hitting whatever is on my way (even people) cause I'm not as cool as you to have a crash on top of a ride =P

Also, "we'd be monsters by now!" What??? let me give you a clue...YOU ARE!

Do you have a teen drum camp? Or do your campers have to be a certain age?
SweetSunshineCamper 1 year ago
This is what I love about this guy. He actually listens to what people are saying, which is why we have an explanation of this fill. Learning something new should be a mutual process between the one giving instruction and the ones receiving it, and Mike's got that down.
I've gotten so much better because of these lessons.

Thank you so much Mike for putting these free videos on YouTube. I know they probably cost you money in the long run, but they really help us all out. Thanks again, Mike!

@DXpac20 Are you kidding? Youtube is Mike's primary source of exposure, as far as I know.

You should. I've been playing for over 12 years, but have learned more in the past year and a half with Mike than ever before. It's definitely worth it. Hope to see you in the lessons.
