Can anybody that speaks Yoruba translate this into english? I'm doing a project for school on the Nigerian-Biafran Conflict and how it was conceptualized in Nigerian Afro-Beat/Highlfe/Juju. I feel like this would be a very helpful source. Thanks!
i can still remember that day very well . my father was a police office in owo town he come in we are in police barrack then what a memory whao i was in pry 2 my father was drunk saying the prsident is dead . things are very easy then any nigeria is coming and go system thanks for uploading dotun Us california
I like General Murtala Muhammad so much cause I was born when his management, and he was the best leader in my life for Nigerians, furthermore was assasineted because of Nigeria.
Oh my! Thanks for posting, I remember this like it was yesterday, pandemonium all over Lagos, remembered as a kid sitting next to my dad's Grundig's gramophone listening to this...remember the lyrics word for word.
i remember the day muriatala was assasinated and for a 6 year old it was quite surreal. it was the first time i'd experienced a sombre mood which affected the whole of the country. sunny ade captures the mood in this track. Thanks GM
Nice piece........ i remember sitting beside my father shaking my head to the tunes. Classic i tell you, bt could you please upload that of Babajide Okunnu.
A piece of history that took twists and turns in Nigeria for three days. They murdered our men for nothing. May their souls continue to rest in peace. And I thank the people that fought Dimka to take gov. back.
magnnum01....'Asa nke-okete bayi niwa e'...this is sunny deep with yoruba language. he was actaully refering to all who are boastful. You know okete in Yoruba world view is a diabolical animal. you don't see it in daylight except at night. and it will eat all your grains before discovering all the damaged it capable off.
This album was released before i was born.................i grew up to love KSA oldies far more than his 90's album. How i wish i could get all his album recorded before 1988.
This is my favourite Sunny Ade album of all times, I play it frequently, IMHO the Nuances of the bands guitar playing is something else, restrained, tonal, & with a fantastic timbre. Side a of the album has a rather pensive mood, I wonder who Sunny was referring to in 'Asa nke - okete bayi niwa e' ? More significantly this album marks a significant chapter in the history of Nigeria post 15th Jan 1966. Nice one Groovy, time to fill my glass with another dram of my favourite single malt whiskey...
