no it's not the right order exactly...there was a Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers before Halloween H20 came out. The Curse of Michael Myers I think is considered Halloween 6 in a sense. But that movie along with Halloween 4 and 5 were taken to have never happened when H20 came out in 1998 because those movies kind of wouldn't make sense to follow up with H20, so they just took from where Halloween 2 left off but it's 20 years later.

I once worked in a movie theater in Omaha Nebraska called "Six West". The first night we premiered this movie--the original Halloween--with this music, was amazing. We could set our watches by the time when people would dash out of the theater to stand hunched over in the hall. They couldn't take it. It was terrifying. Quite an impressive bit of storytelling. Eventually, the word got out and people knew what to expect. But not that first night...

Well, they all have their different styles. Jason is more brutal and Michael is more of a stalker, and Freddy plays with his victims before killing them.
