I honestly don't get this guys thinking lol. Who cares if the screen doesn't change when the keyboard slides out? Its touch screen for a reason you dont need the keyboard out to navigate. Its for typing. When your messaging and in the email and internet the screen turns changes when you need the keyboard. Its touch screen forrr a reeasssoonn.Oh man i gotta take my hand off keyboard to touch screen! Lazyy Turdddddd
People are failing to realize that this isn't a comparision between the two OS's. He's just trying to show the lack of implementation for a physical keyboard in WP7. I can see where he's coming from, I have a DVP and the keyboard is rendered completely useless until you're actually typing within an application. It makes it feel more like a 3rd party attachment as oppose to being apart of the phone. I think Microsoft could have at least allowed for some shortcuts and better landscape support.
Wow, you really don't have a clue! The reason the hardware buttons were so useful on the "old" one is because the TOUCH screen user interface was terrible...
Good videos but the comment about the shift key needing to be held to activate? It is just like the Touch Pro 2. Click once to activate for the letter to be capitalized, hit twice to lock it, hit again to deactivate it. The LED will illuminate it to inform you of its status. How much more intuitive could you get?
"without moving my fingers too much. See, they're still just chillin'." Is he really so lazy as to complain about moving his fingers over the controls of a 4.5inch device?
dude please make us all a favor and stop making reviews or atleast stop make so dumb conclusions sheesh... There's not much you can do with this keyboard? wtf do you wanna do with it ? If you think about it, it's made just so you can type things easy and fast witch is without no doubt great. So dunno maybe it's just me but your making no sense at all in this review
What about we just wait for the modding community to provide us with better keyboard support on the HTC 7 Pro? Or better yet, a way to put Android on the 7Pro just like how the modders have been doing with past HTC phones running on WinMo.
I don't get it, seriously, why would anyone want to navigate through the main menu with the keyboard??? The smooth response and huge buttons(tiles) makes it totally unnecessary. You should only use the keyboard when you want to text!
You clearly don't use Windows Mobile if you went into your tasks list thinking it was the task manager :P haha!
On the fact that the HTC 7 Pro has little keyboard input, that is more than likely because Windows Phone was built for touch, I am sure when more keyboard devices are released, Windows will have update to support more!
There's MUCH more functionality on the Tytn II....
SD Card Slot
Front facing camera
More hardware keys
The 7 pro might have a fast processor, a newer OS and a fewer upgrades like camera mega pixels and capacitive touch screen but overall this guy is right....the 7 pro is a failure.... I own a Touch Pro 2 and I was excited for the 7 pro until I found out it doesnt even have hardware ANSWER and HANG UP buttons......THESE ARE PHONES! In order to hang up you have to touch the damn screen! Fail!
@TheDamnFarao I agree with you, unfortunately, as I like the new UI a lot but they threw the usability out of the window... the useless arrows are really horrible, why shouldn't they work?
I have a Touch Pro2 and I was thinking to upgrade to 7 Pro, but since it has the same screen size I think I won't. I would prefer a 3.8" screen, rather than a 3.6" like the old TP2.
@NyteMunkey and @MelvinSF..... many ppl prefer to use a physical keyboard for navigating through the UI on mobile devices... that is also one of the reasons ppl like keyboard-touch phones...to get a good 'feel' of the device...almost all devices that are either android or wp7 are touch interfaces... some of us like having the choice to switch between the two every now and again..
Was saving up to go buy the htc 7 pro because of its keyboard but..after seeing this review video seems to me that on wp7 it is absolutely worthless. seriously the only thing I really liked about this wp7 was the keyboard..srry wp7 OS on this was a big FAIL...im actually a big fan of htc and win os..better off with android..plus dont really like the limited amt of memory that's integrated into wp7...srry microsoft.. ...ur getting more like the apple..not a good thing :(

You have to take your hands off the keyboard to touch the screen to select something? Oh, please don't do that. You could crash into a tree or hit a cat in the street!
The Tilt 2 & Touch Pro 2 were not used in this comparison because they have very poor keyboard usability when compared to the TyTN II since they don't have Start, OK, and menu hard keys.
@pocketnowvideo Errr yes the the TP2 does have start and menu hard keys and regardless, this video is misleading. The title suggests you are comparing all (or most) aspects when the only thing you are comparing is the hard key usability - I suggest you change the name of the video so people don't come in here like an angry mob asking for pocket now to fire the guy making this video.
Also, the Touch pro 2 is a far fitting comparison to the touch 7 - the Tytn is just too old and to outdated
@pocketnowvideo Another *facepalm*. Looking at the touch pro 2 in front of me, I see clearly visible Start and OK keys. Not sure what you mean by menu, but there's a home key if you mean that.
Of course Windows Phone will evolve to feature parity with Windows Mobile and other mobile OS's. WP7 wins for the latest hardware. This video is great to see how far HTC and MS came from 2007.
OK, the point is valid at its core. All that "nice, comfortable, easy"-rambling just sounds like you're trying to make the old days seem as awesome as possible, then contrasting it with how "bad" things are now.
Touching a capacitive screen isn't uncomfortable, and, I'd say, much more comfortable than having to repeatedly press buttons to navigate a list. This isn't a big deal.
i dont know why everyone is making a bad comment. the guy spent his time making this video for us"the viewers" the least you can do is appreciate it or if dont like it then dont watch it. no one is forcing to do it. humans are so unpredictable
@borderal1. The guy is making a point & it's a valid 1. If u put a keyboard on a device you gotta optimise it to make the most out of it. Just attaching a keyboard with a fully touch optimised OS is not an intelligent move. That's all I was trying to say. Ask if u have any doubt, instead of attacking me with a statement like that u should've just asked me to clarify.
If you could somehow rotate the icons 90 degrees to the right on WP7, that would work for landscape use. You could scroll left to right. If that's even possible though. I don't know why the Bing search doesn't automatically prompt the keyboard. I mean its not like your gonna do anything else on the Bing page.
@Jabid21 how is that interesting? please don't tell me you thought that Apple was the first company to bring front facing camera's to the market... European/Asian markets have had front facing cameras for the longest time. That's a non-US TYTN II
@mbuddennn Ok. If you are assuming i'm an apple fanboy you are wrong. I said "interesting" in a sarcastic manner that an older device has a front facing camera compared to a newer one. (The two phones being compared in the video if you are that thick). How does my original comment even refer to the iphone?
@AppleS0ft he's not good at making videos but still does a lot on the site. no need to fire him yet..maybe just stop him from doing shit like this anymore
@DJINDJIPLQKTOR yeah he does do alot of side stuff on the site wich ive noticed..but some of his videos are useless or unnecessary like this one..so yeah dont fire him but atleast direct this dude in the right direction cuz this post is not important..really defeats the purpose of showcasing better material on the site..Adam or Brian what ever his name is is much better to me than this guy.
@akashnu shut up, dont try to make him feel better..this was horrible and wp7 is supposed to me a more interactive touch device..the "small, thin" keyboard is there for typing and texting...THIS IS 2011 GO BACK TO YOUR CALCULATOR %#$%@
comparison with TyTN II is not the really best choice, but still, even tho this guy was pretty nervous.. he highlited the cons handfully, so.. good work! But I'd still buy one o' HTC's WP7 phones :)
You must have been bored...because comparing these 2 devices is insane! Are you really that lazy because omg you have to "touch the screen"? One more thing....think of the ui layout WP7 has....why in the hell would it support landscape with all those tiles??? If it did would you complain about having to scroll down to far because the screen would be smaller to properly fit those tiles? Anyways, im done ranting lol.
The landscape physical keyboard will never fully be implemented well. WP7´s home screen is not designed to run landscape, and it would just look bad if it does.
Liked the video. It basically says, that windows mobile from 2002 and a device from 2007 in many ways are more usable, than the newest OS and newest device. And unfortunately this is true.
Hope android gets stuffed into this thing. its a shame that this is coming out with such poor software support. Thanks MS for totally botching this phone.
Don't be complete ignorant idiots. He's obviously comparing the keyboard implementation on current wp7 vs old windows. Like @vroom0voom has said. Just shows how shallow minded people get.
It's unbelievable how many people are missing the point of this video... Kudos to the people who understand its about how the keyboard is pretty much useless in WP7 (currently), while in WM6.5 it was implemented better.
I'm sure microsoft will put decent keyboard support in there eventually. WM 6 was hell to use on a daily basis, a few extra taps on the touchscreen on WM 7 definately doesn't mean 6 was better.
I don't know about his written reviews, but this guy honestly told me nothin I wanted to know about the HTC Pro 7, and honestly nobody cares about the Titan 2. :S Maybe he thought it was a funny comparison or something, but it's not. Please make this channel for Brandon and Daniel only!
Wasn't this the guy who booted up the Vibrant and called it a multitasking "fail"? There's no point in comparing to a phone that came out in 2007. The specs of the device are just downright awful compared to the 7 Pro. Please stop embarrassing yourself and make videos that involve more thoughtful thinking.
well I am optimistic and hope that microsoft pushes out updates that will take advantage of this keyboard. When is this phone coming to sprint my contract expires in 10 months hopefully it happens before then because I am waiting impatiently !!!
The point, I think, is not just that htc 7 pro has shortcomings, but encompasses pretty much all of the modern spartphone OSs. All of them are pretty and really powerful, but it takes much longer to do a lot of basic tasks on iOS, wp7, and android (to a SLIGHTLY lesser extent). I haven't used webOS so I can't comment on that, but I was able to be much more productive on my touch pro2 than on my iPhone or droid x, even if it was ugly in the process.
The landscape capabilities of the OS definitely need to be addressed here. They are calling this phone a Pro? You can't call it a Pro when the keyboard is useless in basic functions.
"Dude, fire this guy, why is this guy comparing those phones $&%*@."
His doing that because he has a reason - The HTC 7 Pro keyboard is soo bad, it NEEDS to be compared to a phone from 2007. Think before you type your views.
People need to stop hating on this guy and realize that he is making a fair point. The functionality of the keyboard on the 7 pro, isn't as comfortable or functional as the one in the Tytn, it's clear.
I still use my HTC Hermes as my second phone (the main one is the Samsung s8500 running bada) and the functionality of the OS as a smartphone is definitelly better than the windows phone 7 device i've had before.Windows mobile is devolving.
i think its true that 7 pro and tn2 are not good for a head to head thing. but i feel like he is making a good argument here. OS wise, tn2 is definitely outdated. BUT, as far as keyboard functionality, i feel like windows 7 is just a quickly-put-together kind of thing without taking much consideration of how things should work. for android, things that we expect to work just work, and that is nice.
these things can be taken care of with OTA update, but even the first one is taking FOREVER.
The comparison was dumb; but admittedly he has a small point - I miss being able to use all the Windows functions with the keyboard and the scroller ect. Thats why I kept my Touch pro 2 and returned the 7 pro back to the store after using it for a week.
They should really do a HTC touch pro 2 vs HTC 7 pro.
you're comparing keyboard functionaly of a 4 year old phone running an os that wasn't meant for touch to a phone that uses os designed around touch? brb, im going to compare a wii v. snes for cartridge game support...
@RyanGadz "to a phone that uses os designed around touch"...maybe they should have thought of that before releasing a phone with a keyboard then....I am of coarse talking about HTC...it was dumb to make a phone that is basically stuck in touch mode...
@E430c Because you can use just fine it for what it's most useful for, which is typing. Yeah, you can't navigate the touch-oriented interface with the buttons, but why would one want to, really...
this video pretty much shows how limited windows phone 7 is compared to windows mobile 6 which is sad considering windows phone 7 is supposed to be the new more modern and better OS. but it is still in its 1.0 form im sure windows phone 7 will gain more features as it matures.

Shwanp 1 year ago
@Shwanp I think he was trying to point out that in 2007 they had BETTER keyboard integration than we do in 2011.... :)

Fail WP7 isnt even close to being optimized for keyboarded phones

Nice point, now you know why business people don't like W7 :-)

6.1 FTW!

Windows 7 is shit if it can't do what Windows Mobile has been doing for years.
gunstar1981 1 year ago

HTC TyTN II wins of course.

BUT, as far as keyboard functionality, i feel like windows 7 is just a quickly-put-together kind of thing without taking much consideration of how things should work. for android, things that we expect to work just work, and that is nice.
these things can be taken care of with OTA update, but even the first one is taking FOREVER.
ismfadillah 1 year ago
Hopefully they bing back those simple things in an update.

RyanGadz 1 year ago 14
@RyanGadz i agree.
missgothika 1 year ago
@RyanGadz "to a phone that uses os designed around touch"...maybe they should have thought of that before releasing a phone with a keyboard then....I am of coarse talking about HTC...it was dumb to make a phone that is basically stuck in touch mode...
SuperMachead1 1 year ago
@RyanGadz then why did they included keyboard in HTC 7 pro if you dont need it.
E430c 1 year ago
@E430c Because you can use just fine it for what it's most useful for, which is typing. Yeah, you can't navigate the touch-oriented interface with the buttons, but why would one want to, really...

this video pretty much shows how limited windows phone 7 is compared to windows mobile 6 which is sad considering windows phone 7 is supposed to be the new more modern and better OS. but it is still in its 1.0 form im sure windows phone 7 will gain more features as it matures.

oh ok, so this is basically to show how keyboard isn't connected with the OS on 7 pro, kay I dig that

wait a second, how come your 7 Pro says, "Music & Videos" where my Surround says "Music + Videos?"
