After collecting for 50 years I know that Decca, Coral and Brunswick ALWAYS stamped the matrix numbers in the dead wax and that a bootlegger in Florida (whose name escapes me) bought their labels and booted many rare things but could not stamp the matrix numbers. Mine is genuine although it is in VG- to G+ condition.
Brilliant! How did this one manage to slip through my net for the past 20-odd years? Much better than the (shorter) Lou Giordano version. I've now managed to buy the disc on eBay. By the way, spare a thought for Buddy on 3 February - the 50th anniversary of his untimely death.
I couldnt agree more this is a superb version. IMHO Mike Berry and Bobby Vee are probably th best tribute tyupe perforners of Buddy`s music. I seem to recall Dave did a song in which he refers to naming his daughter Holly.....at one time I had this track but alas its gone now can anyo0ne help with an album title that includes this song and is still available please? (assuming it was Dave Berry)
Although not Buddy Holly related, the B side of this record "Hey Joe" is a real good song, too.

Its a pity that Holly never laid this down himself, it would have been interesting to
hear his interpretation of his own song. But i do like mikes version better than lou's.

@georgeB140 I am glad you have the original. I actually bid $205 for a VG of this single yesterday, but it went for $245!

Lou's version is much rarer (especially the store copy) since it may have sold as much as 7 copies. I have a DJ copy - one of the rarest 45's I own.

@georgeB140 Does your DJ copy has stamped numbers in the "dead wax" otherwise it's a 70's release worth about $20.
