Expensive exterior methods. Use sheets of Aluminum Foil (shiny side Facing Out) to reflect/bouce hot sun out as it tries to penetrate inside of house. Cost is a couple of bucks at most, 1 or 2 boxes of Aluminum Foil taped to inside of windows using clear boxing tape or blue painters tape, stops the hot sun dead & helps cool naturally. All your other advice is great, albiet typical HOT weather countermeasures.
