I heart the technicality at 2:15, har, har, / seriously this was a hey-day period for Jonas {using the whammy-bar bass, yrs. before Vic.Wooten, & before Hellborg went quasi-hippi-India-"world"-hop-la {Pastorius wasn't a fan of John Mclaughlin, for more than person reasons} // on this vid: FREAK, TECH. sounds @ 6:00 - 6:30 {latter day Steve Vai on Bass-Guitar here,... miles beyond Billy Sheehan histrionics.} IMPECCABLE TIMING, FOR quasi-improvised Fusion!!! - BRAVO!
if you look at the video of stevie salas and tm stevens having a jam (tm has a double necked bass), stevies second solos has a bit in it loads like 3:38
I was a kid when this came out somewhere in the early 90's. Liked it, so I went and saw them in a jazz-club in copenhagen. Lots of inspiration, but the biggest impression on me was how effortless and calm (bored?) the drummer (Jamie) was while pumpin' out this complex formula-1 style drummin'. Don't think I've seen that since.
@DimeCrisBag it's probably as simple as people encouraging kids to play instruments instead of cancelling music classes and programs like over here in america.
I heard Jonas say that he's wanting to rerelease the album "e" but it hasn't happened yet, may be he's very busy with other projects. Same goes with "The Silent Life" accoring to his official site if you read his blog uner "A blog of a bass players travels and travails". Octave of the holy innocents been rereleased while a ago, so if we wait patiently, may be we will get the other 2 one day. I really would like get those two. =D
Wow, this is really awesome jam! At 3:38 is like a Buckethead's crazy robot guitar sound but with bass!! I'm so amazed. I love Jonas' bass so much, and this is the first time I hear Jens and Anders, they make great team with Jonas! Q
This, horrible music? What do you like, Metallica? Jesus Christ, these are extremely technical and expert musicians. What the hell is wrong with music's listeners today?
At the moment he does seem to be playing heavy metalish stuff again (after not having done so very much for quite some time). In case it isn't clear, I love his metal, or hard rock-ish stuff, I guess is what I'd call it. But he can definitely play more advanced or challenging types of music as well.
what a complete load of SHIT , ... its the first time ive heard hellborg,... don't know what the fuss is all about , ... just a load of finger twiddling BULLSHIT !!
Not to be an apologist but he is actually capable of better stuff and has improved since this video which was probably about 15 years ago when he was still immersed in the heavy metal shredding of his youth (something he admittedly still flirts with). But subsequent projects with Sipe and some Indian musicians have been more musically intelligent.
It takes a certain type of person to be close to bass, embrace, not just feel it.Bass is an extension of oneself. I have beeen playing bass since the age of about 14,and now i'm 46. I can even do complicated bass lines on keyboard(bass)
Muy bonito... como se llama ese proyecto???
