wow i see some really ignorant people left comments here. If you dont understand this its ok, but please dont leave stupid comments where you try tobe smart, where you try to cover your ignorance. if you expected something else, go find iti wish you luck. for those who do understand this, cheers, enjoy friends
@shivakul mclaughlin learnt veena for many years in india and his style for shakti is a unique atttempt,, chek out his mahavishnu orchestra and onetruth band which he formed with shankar after shakti
I know what lousparre means. I used to think that Shakti would be so much better if Zakir was left to do his own thing without McLaughlin influencing the sound. I have known Zakir's reputation and his playing for years. Then I started getting into Jazz and by accident discovered McLaughlins very serious Jazz heritage and how he had worked with some of the giants of Jazz. I now hear Shakti differently. Its a very very clever blend of Jazz, classical indian and experimental music from both.
Interesting ,,, I used to think much the same of McLaughlin until I saw an early video of him with ZH, It was clear that they had a mental telepathy about rhythm and melody. At this level of musical skill, they do what "they" want, not what others have done. I remain seriously impressed by both of them. Stat at about 5:18 and watch him learn the rag to be able to play in unison with the ensemble.
I see the word "cheesy" on a page like this and it forces me to admit the terrible truth that some people got peanut butter instead of a brain that works when they were born.
stop jiving out lousparre its his concepts and in many respects their right. i preffered shakti when he played acoustic cos there was more emphasis on the entirity of the whole band. this is music. its infinite so just jam out to what you like :)
jesus. you guys are getting all offended. I just don't like the way he plays. I don't like the notes he hits. i don't like the sound of his guitar. I think he's cheesy. Why do you give an F?

i can't stand the way mclaughlin plays. he's so cheesy and white. yeah yeah i know he's amazing but his taste level is awful. hussain rules though... no doubt about that.
i can't listen to anymore than that without wanting to throwup. love zakkir.. its not his fault this is cheesy. Sorry you guys have bad taste. Go download some Paco de Lucia, Tomatito, Luis Bonfa, Baden Powell.... real players whose music is timeless and doesn't sound like the nightcourt soundtrack. ps you're dumb
