If you know his song stiletto, I would appreciate a tutorial on that one. A friend of mine wants me to learn it for him, and I'm having trouble. Thanks.
Pianojohn113, you're an absolute champion for all your video's. You have helped me immensely to learn many songs, albeit I probably take longer than most as I have never had formal lessons and can only play be ear. One question if I may, my fingers are short and stumpy, not longer and more slender like yours. In most of your videos you can slide your finger between the natural keys with ease whereas it is impossible for me flat fingered and difficult with fingers on their side. Any tips mate?
@tjw2803 Glad you like my videos, thanks! For shorter fingers, usually the difficulty is in reaching the octaves. In that case, you can just play the lower or upper note instead of both, and use three finger chords instead of four. That also works if you have trouble playing notes that are close together.. either leave off a note (without changing the flavor of the chord), or play one of the notes with the left hand instead. Not sure if that helps or not, but it's a suggestion!
That was an amazing lesson, but i still can't manage to find a certain chord, its the one played when you play a note, then its higher octave on the right hand.
@danielflasher95 Ok, the left hand there is playing a straight E major chord: E-G#-B-E, whicle the right hand plays the single E note once, then again an octave higher.
im 16 and when i play songs like this kids stare at me like im crazy since im not playing lil wayne and katy perry. billy joel is great music man, very grateful my dad brought me up with a good knowledge of music
@002yada That one is a little tough to teach on a video.. many sus2 and 9th chords, with a lot of individual notes along the way. If I can find an easy way to teach it, I'll post a video.. great song, for sure.
this is really great man thanks a lot so iv been looking everywhere for sheet music and a tutorial for november rain by GNR but i seriously cant find a thing could u please make one for me thanks.
Removed my previous comment due to spelling errors. So, wow man, your tutorials are awesome! And I must say Billy Joel has got to be one of my favorite artists of all time. Is there any way possible you could work on a tutorial of And So It Goes?
Thanks, flaming curent, I'm glad you liked this one. I may have And So It Goes at some point, if I can make it easy for everyone to understand.. lots of 2nds and 9ths in that one.

@pianojohn113 sorry that I didn't include the time stamp, I didn't realize that was easier. It is at 2:03.

thanks bro, one of the sadest and most touching melodies i've ever heard... sad that its just the intro of a song.

@DOPFunk Yes, it's a nice counterpart to the rocking rhythms of the rest of the song.

its a diminished 7.... jesus... apart from that rly good
kookyuke 2 years ago
A diminished 7 is the same thing as a minor 7 flat 5. But if I had notes with me while I made this, I might have referred to it as a diminished 7.
