What a great song this is. Catchy with a bad-ass opening riff that repeats nicely throughout, together with the rest of that heavier, bad-ass progression rock, instead of say a band likeTriumph. Kansas sounded more American to me,I really feel the sountern-fried-rock in those riffs and solos. They had classical instruments inter-woven like they belonged, not overpowing. This song rocks. Quick tempo. And maybe the best part about it - the feeling in the singing on the studio track is amazing.
Phil is one of my favorites also but you shouldn't judge this guy from one song! Listen to his work with "The Producers" and some of the other posts while he was with Kansas. He's no Phil Ehart but not many are because of Phil's unique style but to say he pales by comparison is a little harsh!
You're welcome! Did you know that another drummer also filled in for Phil while he took some time off? His name was Van Romaine and he was from Steve Morse's band. He played with them for about 3 months.
@tommyelectric2003 I got to see this tour and was completely surprised to see Bryan playing drums. I have been a fan of the Producers since they came out. He was also surprised when I called him out on it. He was not used to people noticing it was him, especially all the way out in Manhattan, Kansas. That being said, he is not the same as Phil on these songs. But, he made it work. His work with the producers is always great.
Walsh sounds great....would love to see them play this again.....always one of my favorites from leftoverture.....is the next song Icarus? Thanks for posting this one....keep em coming!
Icarus...? Haha! Yeah! Makes sense to me now. I checked back on the live versions and that first note is higher and more natural sounding than in the studio! Very cool!
Thanks Rick, it's always cool to know the back story! You think Three Pretenders from Power is Steve Walsh's song on a similar topic? Is that the next song? Ha ha! Or Miracles Out Of Nowhere if they were excerpting Leftoverture.
You're welcome! So happy to be your friendly neighborhood pusher man. I've got a good connection! I have some really potent stuff coming up! Remember, this is uncut and pure so you have to be careful man!
is Rags playing rhythm guitar for this one? bc I don't really hear a violin being played....

Probably. I think he plays the lead break on this one before the 3rd verse.

was that the time when steve was already on drugs?

I think at this point he may have been on his way back from the low point in '91/'92.

This is a great song. It should've be on of their bigger hits!

Walsh is always hitting it hard - huge vocalist AND keyboard wizard AND songwriter - yeah and a crazy mover the 80s - early 90's days!

This drummer pales into comparison to Ehart. Makes me appreciate Phil so much more...

Walsh sounds great! Sounds MUCH better than the Whiskey videos.

This is a great example of why I think Walsh was clean by now! Just an observation!
rickyon 2 years ago
I think he was, because if you check out videos from 1996, he's no longer doing those crazy dance moves he did during the 1992 concerts! LOL
Gregsynth 2 years ago
That '93 vid of Closet Chronicles has him doing a very unusual dance while singing up front! It's in my favorites if you scroll down a bit!

Haha. He's got some great dance moves!

I've got another good guess if that's not it...

You're welcome and that's not it. Listen carefully to that one note and what instrument it's on. I know you can do this Chaz!
