I like the Supremes version, I really like the Toys version of this song. But Sarah V, she owned it! It so raw, but refined @ the same damn time! It's like Big Sexy Woman talk'n to me, I'm a lil scared of her......but I still want to tap that. Yhea kinda like that.
Lover's Concerto: This version is nice, the Blossoms version is alright, the Lennon Sister's version blows goats. For this tune, THE TOYS got it right hands down. Their tight, high harmonies are in tune, and blend exceptionally well. I would love to hear it remastered, then re-released.
i thought it was only the white girls when i listened to the toys i went this is come and see about mee supremes then when i heard this sarah i thought not her no no but was i ever wrong this song is just simply eleganant and beautiful it has no genre or colore it most definitely have the right title it is just a sensational
Sarah Vaughan was heaven, The blossoms were divine, Alma Cogan was a fantasy.
I think Sarah Vaughan recorded this song more than once I had an L.P. of this in ?60s 70?s and i think it was a bit more uptempo but still with that rich voice .
This song is known to Korean people (hence Junsu's recommendation) because it was the OST for a very famous movie called 접속 (The Contact), which is considered one of the best Korean movies ever. Check the movie out! Also, this song is just priceless.
I prefer the original version of "The Toys". There had been a german version of this song, performed by Alma Cogan, a great british singer of the fiftys and sixties, who was very successful in GB, Germany, Sweden and Japan. "The girl with the giggle in her voice".
i just love this song, if my bride will sing this song to me, i am assured that i am loved and it will make me in love with her all the days of my life.
Of course, the melody came from the "Little Notebook:" of Anna Magdalena Bach. Current scholarship credits the composition of this particular melody neither to Anna Magdalena herself, nor to Johann Sebastian, but to Christian Petzold.
i just cant express myself when it comes to this women. she is before my time. but her voice is like a god send to me. sarah u will always be special im sure. u where and always will be a gem that one should cherish. thanks for all the beautiful music. not just the beautiful music but ur beautiful voice. god bless i love u
I agree her voice, is too big for this, eventhough anything she sings, have one of the best clarity, one can find. BUT THE TOYS, CANNOT BE TOPPED. DIANA ROSS COMES IN SECOND.
Have always loved the song.. from first hearing the Toys version on AM radio. Always considered the Supremes version the best because of the big Motown arrangement and key modulations. Sarah's version adds a whole new flavor to the song... raw, rich, sultry... like going from milk chocolate to dark chocolate
This is a version of this this timeless classic I have never heard before, and I like the "soul" that is put into it. From friends of mine, guess, this is a very hard song to sing with the change of pitch midway. Truly beautiful!
Until now, I always considered The Blossoms version of this song the best, but this is superb, thanks to NorthernLight005 for your remark a short while ago leading me to search this version out! I'm now going to check out more Sarah Vaughan recordings who I always considered purely a jazz singer and therefore not my music choice!
@STONEYBROKESTILL Sarah Vaughn is one of the most versatile, talented singers of our age. This song just proves it. Of course jazz is her forte. and what a forte!!? Hope you do explore into her repertoire and enjoy the treasure-trove as many of her fans (like me) have. :-)
Ths for uploading this golden oldie w/ us - love it!!
right on georgia54, totally agreed !!! Cilla Black's original is great, but this has to be the best version, maybe ever! Can't get enough of it. Cool !

An absolutely 'WONDERFUL all time classic'

There is no doubt that this is a more polished version. However, I am torn between this one and the Toys.
