  • I love the brave im 8 and i have about 11 braves shirts i wear 1 every day and 38 braves things in my room and i think the braves year to win the world series is 2012 thats what i think every year

  • Braves 2012 World Champs!!!

  • best team ever best year ever for the BRAVES!

  • @hinesville1000 Some people would say that too that these Braves may have been the best team ever, but they DEFINATELY were the best Braves team ever

  • The Yankees skyrocketing payroll started after the 2001 loss to the DBAcks with Giambi and Mussina. Prior to that it was high but respectable. The 96 roster was a TEAM. Boggs,Oneill,Hayes,Duncan,Straw,Girardi,Key,Leyritz with home grown Williams,Jeter,Pettite,Mo was not a bought Championship Cone was aquired in 95. So was Wettland. Fielder was a big signing. But nothing like post 2001.

  • @res340 The Yankees signed Mussina after the 2000 season; he pitched in the 2001 World Series. And while I agree that the Yankees prior to 2002 possessed tremendous cohesion and character, what set them apart fiscally was their ability to spend on their bench and bullpen, not just on their stars. In the postseason, that depth often made the difference late in games.

  • Bob Costas refering to the Braves as "The Team of the '90s" kind of annoyed me considering that the Toronto Blue Jays by that point (this was of course, before Joe Torre's Yankees went on their respective run beginning in '96), had one back-to-back World Titles (prior to the '94 strike) as well as an AL East title in '91 for good measure.

  • @TMC1982Part2 ... thing is, the postseason in baseball is largely a matter of chance and randomness. The regular season constitutes the better measure of performance.

Now, if they went to a best-of-fifteen LCS and World Series, you'd have something at least a little more representative.

  • Tom Glavine was super magnificent that night!! The Indians had no chance.

  • @Theerraticguy Easily. The Braves are today's Phillies, sure they win one with luck on a season that wasn't even fully played. The Yankees, however, has more durability and October knowledge to hand the clutch. Look at J-Tuh, 5 rings. And 6 coming this season, would be fun to see them defeating the Phils or Bravos.

  • @MacGovernor ... luck? Get a grip, man. The Braves went 11-3 (.786) in the 1995 playoffs, hardly a manifestation of luck. As for the shortened season, if 144 games weren't enough for you, consider that even if MLB had played the other 18 games and Atlanta had lost them all (0-18) while the second-place Mets or Phillies had won them all (18-0), the Braves still would have won the NL East by 3 games.

  • @MacGovernor The fact that Atlanta won its division in fourteen consecutive completed seasons should eliminate any notion of luck. As for the Yankees, don't give me this "durability and October knowledge" nonsense. The Yankees won more World Series (four during the Braves' run) for two main reasons: luck (Jeffrey Maier, for example) and Mariano Rivera. Then add superior payrolls that created luxuriant benches, and you have what you have.

  • You're completely right! When they had great pitching, they lacked 1 or 2 great hitters! When they had above average hitting, their pitching wasn't the best. They never put them both together especially after 1996.

  • @Brian211978 ... nah, it's just that the postseason is a crapshoot, especialy when you don't have Mariano Rivera as a closer. And even the Yankees have only won one World Series in the last eleven years.

  • @Brian211978 You can say INCLUDING 1996. Or atleast in the final 4 games in the World Series that year.

  • The Atlanta Braves won 14 division championships, they won 5 national league championships and the 1995 world championship, that's a world record in all sports,14 championships in 14 straight years and a total of 20 championships in 14 years counting the 5 national league championships and the 1995 world championship, for 14 years they won more than anyone and in 2010 they had an exciting playoff run,I hope the 2011 team is even better than in 2010,this was the team's greatest moment :)
