@NEGATIVEPLANET Off the top of my head I think they're probably about the same. Neither one does HD. But in general the SD950 IS has better image quality so if one is better I'm guessing that would be it.
@nijelly12345 I'm sorry, I can't remember. I may have used my Canon PowerShot SD950 IS - I'm noting that this was not shot in HD so that camera is the most likely suspect.
alright so i make alot of fishing videos and want something with good video quality, waterproof, some shockproof, and still pics arent too important to me mainly the video what camera would you recommend
how is the panasonic lumix ts2 on durability and iam pretty sure it has good video and picture quality but i dont know about the toughness yet and if you have used this camera is the dial on the back a problem :) thanks
@slipknot1566 I haven't used the Panasonic TS2 and I've only used the TS1 for a few hours. But it's one of the more popular waterproof cameras on PhotographyREVIEW. I recommend checking the user reviews there for more information from camera owners.
Thanks for getting back to me! How about the Olympus Stylus Tough - so far everyone says its a great camera for $250. I wanted the Sony but it was out of my budget. I've checked up alot on the Stylus Tough & it seems to shoot pretty clear video - so what's your opinion?
@southerndeangelis I'm not sure which Olympus Stylus Tough you're talking about - there are a few. I have used the new 8010 and the image quality was disappointing, although it's got great features and an awesome build. If video is important to you I'd go with Sony or Panasonic.
Hey which of the Waterproof digital cameras would you buy? I am really interested in the D10, as well as the Fujifilm FinePix XP10 & the Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 but am totally getting mixed reviews everywhere I go. Just wanted advice from an expert - someone who, surely, has tested all three? Thanks!
@southerndeangelis I haven't had a chance to use the Fujifilm waterproof cameras yet. Right now my favorite is the Sony TX5. See out video here for that as well as the full review for it on PhotographyREVIEW. I do think the Canon D10 is a nice camera but it's way too big for my taste. I'm not interested in point-and-shoots that don't fit in my pocket.
I've seen some awesome picture and video quality from this camera. Too bad it's so ugly and bulgy compared to the olympus camera. But of course there will be that tradeoff, when making room for a proper lense.
its a good camera but it has many problems such as the "lens error" problem which many people get. I got the error using it 10 times and taking it into the water like I had done on many occasions but it broke after about 5 minute of usage...really disapointing, now awaiting to see what cannon will say.
That all depends on what you mean by better. It's much larger than the Panasonic and won't fit in any normal kind of pocket. on the other hand, it has the best image quality of all the waterproof point-and-shoots I've used so far.
Well, it has image stabilization as does the Panasonic. Whether you get a good photo depends on the lighting and how much shake you have. If you're in low light and you don't use the flash you will probably get blurry photos. But in decent light it should be pretty good. Same goes for the Panasonic.
i've done quite a bit of researchm since i'm getting a waterproof/shockproof for an upcoming trip. there are four things that should be noted in this decision:
-card format (xD on the olympus is less popular)
-resolution
-design
-how "proof" do you need (i.e. need for 10 feet underwater you need the canon)
if you dont care at all, get the canon because truly you will never be let down unless you care a lot about thinness.
@samiam9503 I don't think resolution is important at all. All recent cameras have plenty high resolution. The optics is what's going to set the limit. It's no good with a 20 megapixel camera, if the optics are not good enough to make a clear picture at that detail anyway.
I havent used the Olympus, but the D10 i recently bought for a trip to Florida, it's awesome. I think i had it underwater majority of times without any worries. Everyone loved the camera, whoever saw it was impressed, id recommend the canon if you plan to go to any water parks or if you plan to take pics under water!
At the end of this video you said you are going to have a professional take the camera and put it to a test. Has that happened yet. My brother has moved to Maui within the past year and I think this camera would be a great camera to take snorkeling. Was just wondering how it did. Thank you.
The camera hasn't come back from the Grand Canyon trip yet. But we'll try to hustle a review out as soon as it's back. I expect it will be a couple of weeks, minimum.
