  • looks so real

  • I completely forgot that this was student made. Where was it shot??

  • I don't get this at all. What was the point of any of it? Everything seemed so random.

  • wow this was so touching. i cried. what that man said about chance really touched me...

  • I want to let the makers of this film know that this has been reposted and shared with so many

  • @mmaliska Thank you! Our grads will appreciate knowing that so many have enjoyed this film!

  • Simply Incredible

  • this is excellent!

  • You must work for that which you desire, kindness, and sharing -- Three excellent morals in this story.

    Well done.

  • Extremely well shot.

  • what camera do u guys use any canon's

  • I don't get it... Is the city guy gonna die now?...god i feel slow. Anyways very nice work. I was interested till the end and it was very professional... I just need someone to explain

  • The cinematography is beautiful. It's a little cliche, the whole woman dying in a tragic bus accident part, but I thought the rest was very nice, especially for a student.

  • whoa.. iranian! coool! loved the video! very nicely done!!!!

  • * applaud*

  • Very artistic and interesting. I love philosophical stuff.

  • What a Master Piece *Clap Clap and more Claps*

  • This written portion of this piece is amazing. The whole premise is moving. really enjoyed viewing this...

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLL, this is filmed on River Road in Richmond, i saw the tehran sign when i was going to work

    ...

  • wow, this is amazing. I thought the beginning was a bit boring, but then, in the end, when he bought the balloon of the boy and the boy started running just before the credits, my mouth was dropped open! I'm dreaming of doing something like this too!!

  • Is it true that a job within your field of interest is found for you within a few months of your graduation?

  • No, and we'd be extremely wary of any school that promises 100% placement rate, especially in industries like film. Does being an indie producer count? What about freelancing or contract positions? Our goal is to give our students every advantage possible - a professional network, a high-quality film/reel/portfolio, and knowledge. But, as with any school, the difference is what the graduate does armed with all of that. No industry deals in absolutes or hires based only on educational background.

  • What are my chances of getting into the VFS Film Production Program without having to do the Foundation Visual Art & Design Program ??

  • Beautiful and I wished it were more to it very well shot and written

  • Amazingly well written and executed. Shot in such a professional manner I forgot I was viewing a student film.

The only thing stopping me from applying at VFS is the price unfortunately.

Although Emily Carr, SFU, York and Concordia have very prestigious film programs for a reasonable tuition.

Although I do have one question; Where was this film shot?

  • The incredible roadside location was shot in Richmond, BC. You'd hardly know it, huh?

  • Oh, and not to get into a lengthy side-by-side - but bear in mind that the tuition for the one-year program at VFS should be compared across the full length of other programs (often 3-4 years, though not always), and that includes living expenses for those years. Our curriculum is very carefully designed and balanced so that students basically get the same amount of education in 12 intense months. [/soapbox]

  • i thou that guy would marry that girl...lol

  • That was an amazing and beautifully sad story. Very well done!

  • that was beautiful, i thought that it was only animation, tell me, it Vancouver Film School real, if so i might go there at some point in time.

  • Oh, it's a real school all right, with 13 programs covering animation, film, and a lot of other things. Check out vfs(dot)com if you're curious.

  • It's really an amazing story with a nice shot. I believe that everything was in its correct place. It needs a proffesional interpretation.

  • its iranian isnt it? teh language?

  • Arabic

masha Allah = Allah has made it so

    Salam= Peace

  • this guy is retarded. you're right. and we only use arabic phrases because arabs attacked our country and tried to seize some parts. our culture and language are basically different.

  • Amazing story, brilliant work... Very touching.

  • i love this shot, but anybody can tell me the meaning of yellow ballon? why they are talking about the YELLOW one along this short movie.

congratz to the director of photography, really nice shooting under a burning sun.

5 stars for all the crew.

    me encantó, sigan así.

  • VERY GOOD STORY!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think that when the girl gave him the umbrella, she died, so now because the man passed it on to the boy, the man will die, until the boy passes it on to his father, and then the boy will die. It acts as their soul, as their life. And it teaches the lesson overall.

    Great story!

  • beautiful

  • omg..I thought the city man was going to die because I thought whoever passed off the umbrella was going to die

the end was prety intense for me

anybody thought of that ending too?

  • Yea me. Oh no the kid after...

  • Nice Work.

Must have taken a lot of effort.

  • Incredible Film

  • That was a beautiful story. This is by far one of the best films by vfs.

  • excellent sound. I love it. What was this shot in?

  • super 16mm.

  • Indeed it was very well done, congrats.

  • Wow. That was really good.

  • best movie of all at V.F.S WELL DONE!!

  • That was great! Beautiful story, wonderful visuals...

  • OOOW I loove the little boy he's so cute what's his name? And I love the film it's just so beautiful...

  • Wow. Very well made

  • One of the best short films that a VFS student has ever produced. Love the story, love the acting, love the direction, love every single thing about this short. Excellent! Please continue making outstanding films with an exceptionally captivating storyline. It is films like this that one turns into a cinephile.

  • A beautiful and compassionate film. I thought it would turn into a corny love story and I'm glad it didn't (but I was also sad that it didn't!)

I hope the boy does well with his lucky umbrella.

  • Fantastic!

    very well done..

  • very powerful. i wanted more misfortune to happen to the well off city man... but i suppose he showed a bit more human side at the end. good way to conclude into credits.

  • Oh why did you want the city man to be sad?! He was a good man - he came back to return the umbrella and gave the boy money for his ice cream. Do you wish him bad luck simply because he had a car and lived in the city?

Wealth is all relative - he seems like he wouldn't be a wealthy man by our standards, but he was wealthy by the standards of the people who had to sell newspapers and figs to earn a living.

  • Beautiful.

  • That is an outstanding short film. Something to be very, very proud of. 5/5

  • i thought this was one of Vancouver Film School's best! :) 5 stars!

  • That was a really great video! 5 Stars.

It's in Farsi by the way.

  • that was great, i loved the metaphors

  • nice

    I give it a 5 star

  • Actually it's French lul

  • Do you even speak french? This is nowhere NEAR french.

  • lolz hes messing around

  • It's Farsi with a little Arabic and a little French thrown in. Farsi is a living language and borrows from other languages just as English does.

  • wow, this one was pretty well done :)

    really good actors as well.

  • I'm glad to see actual artistic content in videos on youtube. I constistantly worry that this website just lets idiots speak their mind.

  • Excellent Narrative!

    what language is this?

  • Arabic

  • farsi actually.

  • aah.. i dont think so, i speak arabic! this aint arabic. i thnk its persian or afghani.

  • Nice.

  • Fascinationg film. Actors very good, especially fascinating was Parvaneh.

  • this was beautiful.

  • I love it! I'm going to show my family this one!

  • I had ice cream right before this =)

  • This is so sad. Besy youtube video ever produced.

  • *Tear*

  • I saw the same thing before

  • what do you mean?

  • They posted the same movie about a year ago.. I was the same thing... well I don't remember the characters but it was the same.

  • wonderful work

  • it made me sad :(

But what wonderful actors! They really played their parts well. Was it hard to find ~10 actors that could all speak Farsi and act?

  • iranians are well known by their nice movies. so you can find tons of farsi speaking actors in iran

  • Simple. Honest. Pure. To tell the truth, I found the dialog a little stilted and the story a little predictable, but what beautiful symbolism and how beautifully photographed.

  • I love it. Great work...

  • aww she dies

  • yep...

  • lovely.

To be honest, some of your past films got me a bit disappointed,(Do get me wrong. It was just two or three) but this one just fixed that.

  • sorry: don't get me wrong

  • aww, that's really cute C:

  • Lovely work, Thank you for posting!

  • interesting

    where do this take place?

  • Iran

  • haha eival

  • I don't understand the concept...

  • what language is this?

  • It's Farsi.
