haha, if you believe your opinion is fact than you're not listening to the music man, you're just hearing it. No one can change youre mind, if you wont open it, atleast be respectful. In my opinion this is beautiful, experimental, and strangely satisfying and more unique than the usual cover of this song. Its open for interpretation, like all music. Which you didn't seem to recognize,.. so You don't know Shit. husky.
A live performance really can't be accurately compared to a studio recording, that being said, the point of covers are not meant to be attempts to out do the original, they're for fun, and thats what this is.
This is such an amazing cover. If you're going to see a band perform a song the way it was originally done, just go see the original. The point of cover should be to do it your way. Don't think of it as the same song.
I think a lot of people have obviously missed the point here. Watching Soundgarden circa mid 90's was phenomenal, they just went past giving a fuck and played what they wanted, how they wanted. If you like your covers conventional and safe keep watching your American idols and x factors, I'll quite happily take my garden any day to most of that shit. Then again most of the people on here are too young to even remember what half decent "music" is. 96-how old were you?
Actually, that little argument of "I'm older than you, I was there!" Got overruled when music was recorded for the first time. Right now, my opinion is as valid as yours, and so is a 5 year old's (As long as he makes sense). In my opinion this goes BEYOND a cover, and into the "Song massacre" sector. Good day
Kudos for saying one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. As you age, your tastes mature. Older folks= better taste. Musicians = beter taste. Songwroters= better taste. (with exceptions of course).
Your opinion does NOT equal a 30-something audiophile music-writing thinker. Sorry.
Hey, it's not the age that matters still. A 15-something audiophile does equal a 30-something opinion. Maybe even more, since rock is for the younger generation? :)
@procraft hmmm....we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. It's the same for any art form or knowledge base. The reference base for an older person is simply larger than it is for a child. This is simply a fact. Usually (not always, but usually) this equates to a more refined sense of taste in the arts....including rock and roll.
And for rock being a young man's game....not so. I saw the Who the week Roger Daltrey turned 63, and I couldn't believe how awesome they were and how hard they rocked the joint (and I'm a relative young dude at 34.)
Dude, I loved this cover, but what you're writing is one of the stupidest things I've ever read. It's possible for opinions to be objectively wrong (for instance, the opinion that this isn't a cover), or better informed, more sophisticated, etc., but there's no criterion to judge between two reasonable opinions, certainly not age. There's no "better" taste, just taste that agrees more strongly with your own, or with that of the majority of "insiders."
No offense but it's strange you say I said something stupid, and then you go on to pretty much agree with me, in theory, at least.
You admit that some tastes are better informed and more sophisticated. That's all I'm saying as well -- however, I'm just adding that the vast majority of people's tastes and sophistication increases AS THEY AGE. Older folks know more about stuff than kids do. Music included. That's all I'm saying.
@dantehunter well you obviously haven't paid attention to my comment at all as this isn't 'recorded' music, its a live performance...from 1996...so you are looking back at a live video on YouTube with absolutely no point of reference, I saw them play this live back in 96, so can have a valid opinion of it. Go and compare the 'recorded' versions of Soundgarden and Beatles if you want...you're argument is pretty flawed. And a good day to you too ;)
demaciado alternativo para algunos que solo disfrutan de la musica comercial, parece que no saben apreciar esperimentaciones y solo les agrada lo que la industria les ofrece, y si algo no se parece a eso no les gusta
I thought this was supposed to be Helter Skelter.
It was barely recognizable. Some parts sounded sort of like it but I'm pretty sure I could fart a better cover. I did like some parts of it. but it's not Helter Shelter. It's more like Hector Smelt Her - on heroin.
what ever , sleep when you are dead. the org. was the best recording ever, of course. These boys give it all every time they play together or apart. X0X0
The original was done raw in a studio with no effects and it didn't put you to sleep. I love Sound garden, but you can't tell me this blows away the original. No one hits the notes on vocals in the original Key like Paul McCartney. Even now that he is in his sixties he still pulls it off 40 years later.
Audioslave would absolutely NAIL this song in a more straightforward cover. Too bad they can't do it now. The song practically sounds like it was written for them -- vocals, guitar, bass, everything.
very nicely done, yet i would have loved to hear him sing it like in the original....

Nothing to argue here. Beatles are pre Manson, Soundgarden are post Manson, that's why it's so dark and gloomy, and that's why it rocks so hard.
Beatles invented it, it depends on your personal life style what you like best.
Kill me but I'll go a million miles with Soundgarden.

You do know that Chris Cornell is known for his four octave range right? Cornell could blow McCartney away in any challenge of range.
