"They[political parties] serve to organize faction, to give it an artificial and extraordinary force; to put, in the place of the delegated will of the nation, the will of a party, often a small but artful and enterprising minority of the community;"
fucking hate thomas jefferson! so glad he's dead! he's a fucking child molestor and likes to rape his young girl slaves! he's a fucking pig! he deserves to rot in hell! he's a devil in human form! find his body and burn it!!!! stupid fucking pig! and he was old and ugly looking too...guess thats why he raped girls... he couldn't get any without force! i cant believe he was president! was america high or something voting for him? what the fuck was wrong with people in america back then? smh -___-
@blardosplats They were taken (verbatim) from some anti-Jefferson newspapers of the time, and political opponents. Lies & distortions, just like we have today. :)
Thomas Jefferson is an example of why having heroes makes no sense. We should study those who came before us, examine their faults and triumphs, in order to become better people ourselves. Thomas Jefferson was both a gifted intellectual and a immoral cretin. I guess we all are, on some level, and must continue to perfect personally.
Not to further complicate things but in fact near all of the below is wrong. Madison wrote the amendments which later became the Bill of Rights, but the Constitution was a collaborative effort amongst the delegates drawing upon a number of sources, not just Madison's input (though he's credited as the 'primary author'). Though whoever said Jefferson had no means to alter it save through Madison (and other Virginians) has it right; Jefferson and Adams were both absent during the drafting process.
this isn't an imaginary attack ad. It is just a modern treatment of what was actually used by Adams to convince voters to vote his re-election. It is taken, apparently, pretty much verbatim.
Good job! Too bad the point seems to be lost on those commenting.
Jefferson is the rawest president ever and is a goon. Yall no nuthin bout dat. Buudy had like kids with a slave and had an affair with one so therefore he likes the slaves. He did nothing to abolish slavery though that was all lincoln who is by far the best president ever. SUUWOOOOOO!!!!!!
@MonstaGoon do u 4get he wrote the constitution? MUCH ahead of is day. i wuld also like to bring attn. to the fact that the industrial revolution hadnt yet occured. a man of desires nd means to utilize "tools." yea slavery's sickenning, idk maybe he was distracted by most he cared about dyin? he actually submitted someting like 12 motions for the abolitionment of slavery. he was RIDICULED. give credit where credits due, empathize with their faults and a BETTER UNDERSTAND'LL COME. i like adams :)
@mrhoan Sorry darlin', got to stop you there: I'm a Jefferson fan, but Jefferson didn't write the constitution. He was in France at the time, all he could do was give suggestions to Madison, and after the constitution was ratified, urged Madison to introduce the amendments that became the bill of rights.

@DarthFrankus suck my ass ignoranous! jefferson was the writer dumb shits... his counterpart adams even credited him with the skills noone else had. madison? gtfo. u guys have ne thing interesting to say?
1769: T.J. Attempted to emancipate slaves in the Virginia General Assembly.
1784: T.J. Attempted to emancipate slaves in the Continental Congress.
1778: T.J. Banned the importation of slaves.
Yes he was an owner of slaves, but a lot of literature on Jefferson still remains questionable. Lincoln was not the first to attempt ending slavery. Lincoln was married to a slave-owning family. Bottom line, it was all wrong, but Lincoln ended it with the emancipation proclamation.
There is no record of this 1769 attempt in the journal of Burgesses
1784 was "northwest Ordinance" & not opposed to slavery, just in that area - and most slave owners supported it because of tobacco competition, not abolitionism
importation of slaves was because of fear of rebellion, not abolitionism
There's nothing "questionable"; but the apologist arguments you repeat are not even half truths
Lincoln never tried to end slavery; he supported it in 1st Inaugural address
These were completely different times with completely different problems. How pointless is it to try and guess what political denomination they would belong to in this day and age?
This "American" hero had over 600 slaves but yet spoke out against slavery interesting. He was a CONSERVATIVE and would of found allegiance in today's ta-party. Yea Thomas was a real hero.... not.
Im an alocholic and i also speak out against drunkedness.
Wil you actually think for 1 second that Im against alcohol? Probably not.
But when you worship slave owners who owned slaves all their lives, suddenly slavery becomes not so bad. Oh, rally? Maybe Sally Hemings would beg to differ. Or the 20 slaves who ran away in 1775 to fight AGAINST the Americnas and join the British.
1 + 1 doesnt equal 2 in Orwells world. If u own slaves, U cant be against slavery. Hypocrasy
@EBanonymous Bear in mind that slavery was a trade as well. That means they were traded by their own people for goods. T.J. had developed a sense of conscience and made several attempts to abolish slavery, though congress shot down the idea.
What attempts did Jefferson make in to abolish slavery? None. Opposing slave trade is very differnt.
The only argument he made against slavery was to remove all blacks, send them to Africa or Carribean & colonised there. ONLY under those conditions - w/ slave owners like himself reimbursed - did he discuss slavery ending. See Notes on Virginia. That's not abolitionsm. That's called apartheid & white supremacy, something Jefferson was big into.
Most slave owners opposed the slave trade, but not slavery. Why? New Africans led to slvae revolts, and there was a huge one in 1800. Nothing to do w/ abolitionism.
Jefferson made 0 attempts in Congress to end slavery; he wasn't even in Congress. He was Minister to France, Sec of State, VP & then President from 1783 on. Before that? No. Pure mythology.
These men supported slavery. Suddenly now they're all against slavery. How pathetic is that argument? Slave owners support it.
@EBanonymous If slavery, discomfort, racism is all that comes to mind when encountering opposite color/race, you are not living! I personally consider it to be treason and unthinkable for a country to trade away its own people as property for goods! In many ways, all races throughout history have been enslaved by force or fear, either by the wealthy or residing powers. Taxation is a form of slavery.
He supported the 13th Amendment (Corwin) to keep slavery & prevent the war in 1861. The Proclamation was a threat to end slavery ONLY in rebel states if they didn't return by January. That was economic/military, not abolitionism.
I suggest you look closer at these things & not just repeat what some historian wants you to believe; these men were not human rights supporters, & Jefferson was off the charts. in 1807 "we shall destroy all of them" he said about indigenous. why?
Slavery is a human rights violation; these men are important to American history, they can't discuss what they really did. Not historians teach this mythology of now they're suddenly abolitionists through outright misrepresentations like 1769 & 1784.
Jefferson in Notes on Virginia says slavery could end in US if all blacks were sent abroad; all white apartheid society he wanted. That's Lincoln's position too before he died. I can send u url's on all this if you want evidence.
The Federalists were all shills for the Crown of England. May they enjoy their stay in HELL. Jefferson was a true patriot and President of the people. John Adams set in motion precedents which many historians praise today. (not I), He appointed John Marshall the first Chief Justice. Marshall deviously allowed the traitor, Aaron Burr to go free. You think you can't be held for lesser acts today? Try the Patriot Act on for size.
The Founders weren't saints: they had wives, mistresses & promoted the pirating of His Majesty's ships. There was a thriving black market in the Colonies that John Hanson & John Jay did quite well with. These men always claimed to be Protestant Christians. There are many quotes floating about fr. private correspondence & taken out-of-context seemingly conveying "atheistic" notions. So? All men are blasphemers, all men are roguish, yet not 1 of these men claimed "atheism" as their Faith.
lol I would like to see a counter attack ad. I guess Jefferson, even with his amazing one liner quotes would not win today. Then again, this ad wouldn't really have the same effect, because the country was already under essentially "organized anarchy" at the time. In fact, prior to the constitution signing it was under anarchy, but people got along just fine.
Lol... ya... our gov't is pretty out of control... I think that both the parties are now for bigger and bigger gov't. (While IMO i think the dems are worse).. I think its time that people start moving towards a 3rd party if they want a change from the reckless spending and gov't beurocracies.
yeah, I find it ironic that this government is now much larger than the one we revolted from.
Today 233 years ago on July 4th 1776 we declared our independence from the overly large British tyranny, a government a fraction the size of ours today. The primary reason we revolted was to live in a society free from taxes, central banks, large government and a fiat currency. So today we celebrate these freedoms,,,, oh wait, there are no more freedoms than the ones we had before 1776, RIP constitution
"The primary reason we revolted was to live in a society free from taxes, central banks, large government and a fiat currency."
The chant was "no taxation without representation" not "no taxes!". It was a political belief that Britain didn't have the right to tax America without their consent.
The modern constitution was not written in 1776 also.
@Havermayer Don't forget the "Stamp act" or shall I say "Patriot Act?" The Constitution was signed on 9-17-1787 and approved by nine states on 6-21-1788. "Constitution day" however, is still recognized as the date it was signed.
actually the primary reason the colonists rebelled is written in the Declaration of Independence. It says "domestic insurrections" and "merciless Indian savages" which referred to Lord Dunmore's Proclamation to free the slaves & the British use of Indiansm which the rebels said would end their economy and threaten them physically.
Those are the lsdt & most important reasons given.
That statement immediately exposed you as the ignorant one. Libertarians oppose FEDERAL TAX. They LOVE state and local tax. Maybe you should have an idea of what you are talking about before you post? Just a though.
@antenora1009 haaa, yes because when you screwed by wal-mart, HMO or Food industry ect. don't come crawling to the goverment to help you out.
I vote, there by giving me concent whill controling my goverment. People have more power then they know, it's sad that their still some who are demoralized.
So tell me, did you take a shower today, drive on the roads or even used the internet. I think you should be more thankful for having a federal goverment, btw. I'm not saying be completely loyal
hahahahaha those are things primarily paid for by state taxes (which i have no problem with btw) why dont you go research the federal reserve and learn something.
federal waterfowl regulations, federal drug and food administration and federal department of transportation are not state run services, you should think before you talk. Your not a Libertarian, your a confederate. Go luck winning minority votes.
No shit, Liberals are the one's proposing legistive to regulate the FED. The Libertarian just want to shut it down, disregrading the reason why we had it built in the first place.
Liberals dont want to regulate the fed...they want to fed to regulate you. And as for the "i vote thereby controlling my government" doesn't work on a federal level. Why do you think the founding fathers created the electoral college? to screw you? no. It was to keep power divided across the country to protect against mob rule. The fed is the cause of our economic problems and people like you think adding to the already clogged arteries of regulations and bureaucracy are going to help.
and I have to disagree with you that I am a confederate...i have no southern heritage or sympathy. Anti-Federalist definitely. Now go watch Nancy Pelosi on CNN liberal.
Your an idiot the confederate is a political idea, yes, it was embarched by the southern ,but doesn't mean every confederate is a southerner.
Do you read papers? of course not, Libertarian don't go to school. To much goverment in their education/
Lol, centralized banking is not the problem, controlling banks that spend and loan irresponsible is the problem. Your idea's just lead to dictated Corporatism.
Corporatism corporatism corporatism... every liberal denounces corporations that get too wealthy and powerful but none ever have a problem with the government lobbying those corporations use to gain power. One corporation cannot rule the entire market without government intervention. Money has a value and that determines the prices in the market. But what happens when the feds double the amount of money overnight and use it for foreign loans and corporate bailouts?
You are effectively stuck with the same amount of cash that is now worth half as much...that is exactly why our economy has gone to shit and it started in 1913 with the federal reserve. So please explain to me how MORE government intervention in the "free" market is going to help?
aw, you still think a free market is perfect? It sounds good on paper, but in real life it doesn't work. The Federal goverment can work and has worked before on if the indivuals behind it represent the true will of the people. Any liberatairn form of goverment can not work, because it will turn into a dicatorship once someone surpass the markets.
No, a free market is imperfect...just like the natural order of life that it mimics. Its called dynamics... Dictatorship occurs through political campaigning for ex: Hitler was elected legitimately into office by the German people because he filled them with a strong sense of nationalism when the Treaty of Versailles had them hating the rest of europe and the states.
Very true, Ben Bernanke well have what's coming to him soon enough.
But you really think ending the Fed well cure our ecconmic crises, it might be a branch of the tree, but the roots are much deeper then you think. Society in itself is sick, they buy without money and spend for things they don't need. They get obese and lazy... This is what our society is breeding.... stupidy
as I said in a free market, the money has an actual value (as it did backed by gold before the Fed Res). If the fed couldn't artificially inflate money for temporary security then one entity couldn't have it all. Even if one person was able to strike it rich, they would instantly put that money back into the market when they purchased food, goods and services. Once again read into the Fed before you continue your horribly short-sighted argument.
Actural Hitler would have only won 30% of the vote out of a country were only 40% of the country voted. He got to power, because he formed a colloation with a center-right partys. They did this because they were afaird of communist. plus Hilter actural like Britain and America, because of our Nordic roots and thought he could form a partnership.... then again Hitler was crazy and addicted to speed.
No such thing as R/L Gov't - Think of it like this...at one end, total governement control. At the other, Anarchy. Right / Left doesn't matter. No government is VERY BAD. Some goverment is good and within this realm exists the perfect co-existance between free people and rule of law.
Too much government is VERY BAD. We are reaching that "point" where its about to get ugly. Right or Left (as the chatty class calls it) is irrelvant. Either extending to too big a goverment - is doomed.
uggg... "bad" is your opinion, it gets much complicated when you want government to do the impossible, but government lacks the resources. The thing about the Constitution people always relate to is when the founding fathers agreed on that government should have limits of power, but they constantly fought over was the main role of government... which lead to the creation of our first 2 political parties federalist and the anti-federalist. I only favor the left due to it ties with intellectuals
I don't want the gov't doing the impossible. I want the gov't doing what the Constitution says it can and no more. Maximum freedom of the people within the law. Intellectuals my ass. They can be anything they want, but when it comes to writing laws, policies and amendments, they are first and foremost representitives of their voters. That means they do as they are told BY those electing them or get out. Its really that simple. Anything else, no matter how it is "dressed up" is a form of tyrrany.
well i hate to tell you this but their nothing against "big government" in the Constitution only limits on the power of government. Your thoughts don't represent the majority. besides your right, but they have to complete their term in office or people such as bush would have been gone long ago and the intellectuals are a minor political sect who favor education, science and learning.
just name one thing their doing that's unconstitutional,
Who favor education? Sure, but only if their ideas are taught. Science? Oh, you mean like the largest FARCE ever set forth on mankind. Man made GW.
Sorry pal, if this is what "intellectuals" bring to the table, stay home.
And we will see in NOV if my idea's represent the majority. The Libs in this country are in for a BIG shocker. They, are by far, the minority. As you will see.
after the 2010 elections, he will just be a babbling lying mouthpiece. Much like now.
intellectuals = simpletons. Nuff said. You jack ass, you want to see what 50 yrs of idiot Libs do to.............MOVE TO DETROIT. There, theres your intellectual utopia. U can't fix stupid, but we can vote them out - and we will. Bu bye.
hahaha.... No, look at New York, San Francisco and any other major city.. Now look at the rural area of America. nuff said
but, I feel sorry for you, your the result of a cut education program. You poor man, well lucky for you have Jesus and trolling youtube. Other wise your an angry guy in your mom's basement.
The first step is admitting the problem! I'm proud of you and you made great progress today. Remember, their are people out their that care about you and you don't have to hate others for childish reasons.
no ,stingray i do get it. There are people out their that make you upset, because the believe in a different idea. How dare they hurt you like that? they should just accept your way of thinking and America will be a better place. After all, that's why immigrants came to America in the first place. To get away from some else who thinks their views are inferior to theirs.
@snowwolf7777@snowwolf7777 WRONG commie breath. I do not get upset that people have different ideas. I think that is fine. But I do get upset when they steal the money I earn and then use it to write and enforce policy I totally disagree with.
See, that is what the Libs can never figure out about tea partiers. Libs GROUP everyone. But people are NOT groups. We are individuals. Guess that is beyond their "intellectual" thinking process. What? do you work for a Gov't agency? I bet you do.
Aw, you mean the teabaggers? I think it's nice that Americas elderly have something to do besides complain at the local teenagers. See, I also agree that when someone takes away your right to get married, rights with your body and ban partical items because its imoral then that makes me mad. You shouldn't be so angry about money, after all you should be thankful that your not poor. I hope you take some time out of your day and be thankful for that :D
@snowwolf7777 I'd rather be a teabagger than a Douchbagger. I am not a religious person so shitcan that crap. Can't even spell it! I'm talking about our gov't stealing everything we have, everything we will have and everything our children have. Its called SLAVERY! Get that? Didn't think so.
U work for the Gov't or you're sucking from the public tit - OR you're just plain stupid. So which is it?
Stingray, their is no reason for such foul language. Their this famous quote, I love to uses to determine the difference between a man and a slave. A man choose, a slave obeys. We pay taxes and return for public service provide by the federal, state and local government or we can choose to live some where else.
A slave obeys what ever their master say, if he says their weapons in Iraq, you must obey and attack.
you were told to hate government, after you were told to love it and you obeyed
@snowwolf7777 Ok, I choose NOT to pay and don't WANT the Federal Gov't Services. Just State Services. Now, tell me again it's a choice. I'm all ears.
I have to go, I just heard one of your kin saying something about global warming makes winters worse. This I gotta see.......
And time for you to fess up. Which govt agency do you work for or what welfare program are you on? Do not type another word to me until you answer the question.
I already answered that question, go live somewhere else.
well, according to the theory global warming actual cause extreme change in both hot and cold weather. But if you wish to argue at nature, go yell at a tree. Maybe it will calm you down.
Your so demanding about finding out about me, is it too hard to believe that I have no ties to the American govt or that I'm just an average middle class American? I'll tell you, If you tell me your occupation.
Aw, I was looking forward to your reply. Well I guess I'm not giving you the reasons you were looking for. I hate to criticize, but you should be patient and work on your anger, but I forgive you .
@snowwolf7777 Deeper and deeper it goes. Over the weekend, University of East Anglia global warming cultist Phil Jones conceded that there has been no statistically significant warming over the last 15 years:
Why hello, Stingray. I thought your last comment was your "last comment". I see you must have an urge to see me. You flatter me that your interest in my point of view.
I believe globe warring is really due to the with draw of the glaciers and the changing habitate condition of certain specie such as the polar bear, not to mention the effects on the worlds climite and costal sea rising, but I have video that could convince you....
I know that your skeptical, but I please ask you to watch
@snowwolf7777 I live on the coast, its not rising. Polar bear populations are increasing. Biggest thread? Hunters. GW depends on where you measure it from. from 1800's, yes, 2 degress. From 1200's No, colder now. Have you not read lately? All the "science" is now shown to be a fraud. Fixed numbers, unreported declines, law suits (yes, even Al gore is being sued) You really DON'T get it do you.
MM GW is the biggest fraud in history. Its colder because it warmer. Its drier because it wet. RIGHT!
@snowwolf7777 "I already answered that question, go live somewhere else"
And to that I say, there are plenty of socialist, commie countries in the world already. U wouldn't have to change the Govt SO MOVE THERE and leave the US. We are based on FREEDOM, not some sluck stealing the working tax paying citizens labor and feeding their "voters" - YOU MOVE! We don't want your socialist crap here.
Lol, what can't you be sued for in this country. Half of Europe is controlled by Social democratic countries. What do you know of freedom? Is it freedom when I child has to work, therefor he is denied education. Is it freedom when the worker gets tricked by his employer and is imprisoned by debt?
besides, the issue at hand was not socialism, but taxes and government by consent, which is something our government was built on. So if you don't like paying taxes, renounce your citizenship.
I didn't say I would not pay taxes, what I meant was its taxation without representation. Tyrany. Just fine with you apparenty. Not to worry. Most will be getting their ass handed to them in NOV and the ones that are left will be powerless, including BO. So you just keep sucking from that public tit and let the US tax paying citizen fill your feed bag. Child has to work? Humm, like commie CHINA! And that is what you want the US to become? Nope, no matter how hard the Libs try, NOT GONNA HAPPEN.
You are right, Stingray. with the taxation without representation is tyranny,
except your getting represented by your local congressmen, I feel sorry for you that you have no idea what the founding father's fought the revolution for. I suggest you call your local congressman and ask him to increase the education budget in his reign due to your sad story.
Stingray, your silly. you can't silence progressive thought because it's motivated by pure love, and that why I truly wish you well :D
@snowwolf7777 To have representation, you would have to acheive statehood and as the constitution set D.C. up as the seat of government it can't be a state. This is not a desire for representation, but, a dodge to put more leftists into the House and senate.
@supressorgrid then can we not pay income tax, since the foundation of our country was built on no taxation without representation. Were not being represented, that is a clear violation of both the Constitution and the declaration of Independence. I don't care about political party, I care that we have the right to choice, the right to speak!
Saying that we don't have the right to vote just because we won't vote in your favor. That is pure tyranny.....

@snowwolf7777 Let me qualify this for you. My Gov't borrows money from someone, spends it and we are on the hook to repay it. And how does one "repay"? We have to work to get the money, in which case the money is taken from us to re-pay the debt. Sooooo, I am working/laboring to give my earning to someone else of which I get NO benefit. In other words, working half the time for free. U have another name for this - taxpayer - Ha, yes, its slavery. Plain and simple. Ya better wise up!
The Gold market could be controled, such as the cash for gold schem.... Then the doller vaule would be dictated by those who controled the most gold. I want to propose that we begin a nation inspection into the FED and then view and regualte it's spending and records. Once analzed we coud plot a course of action from their.
Well according to Ben Bernanke auditing the fed would destroy the dollar and the American people's hope in the federal government. The son of a bitch is also Time magazine's Man of the Year.
@secretbonus: It's interesting you say "we", because the ideological continuity of Americans 1776 to Americans 2009 is not at all obvious or necessary. Times changes. People change. History repeats itself.
@secretbonus 'oh wait, there are no more freedoms than the ones we had before 1776'. Universal suffrage; freedom from slavery; freedom from racial or religious discrimination. All those have come about in the time since the revolution. Would you rather go back to 1783, where a handful of upper-class landowners ran the country for their own economic benefit? You live in a fantasy world fuelled by Glenn Beck and too much Dr Pepper. Calm down and grow up, you know nothing.
I dont know wat democrats ur hangin around! Lol. Cause every dem i hav talked 2,(and 98 percent of the elected dems) are for more gov't involvement in the economy. i.e.- regulations, bailouts, gov't healthcare, etc. etc. It's a biiiigg stretch for me 2 believe that democrats are even CLOSE 2 being laissez faire
Jefferson was by no means a modern Democrat. As the other guy said, he would be considered a libertarian these days.
Considering Jefferson was in favor of laissez-faire.. he would roll over in his grave if he heard that he was being thrown into the group with Pelosi, Obama, and the economic authoritarians of today.
Glenn a democrat hes on faux news now and bill maher is a libertarian when it comes to the moral issues but stand with the lefts idea on how economics should work just look up Ron Paul and Bob Bahr and those are the best most well known versions of libertarians
actually he was a republican or as to today's standards a libertarian, he believed in small government on all sides moral and economical, though the neocons of today blur the line he drew, look at Ron Paul he's a true Jefferson Republican.
Thomas jefferson was a decent man. He is known to be the first Democrat to have sexual scandals. Just listen to who his mistress was related to. His wife through a slave he owned. Bill Clinton wasn't the first to say " I didn't have sexual relations with that woman". He's a good man none the less (Thomas Jefferson I mean, Not slick Willy Bill Clinton)
We have to be careful about rhetorically equating the political parties of Jefferson's day w/the current Republican & Democratic parties. The Democratic-Republicans espoused some ideas that align w/the current Dems and also some that fit more w/the GOP. Although, frankly it's getting hard to figure out exactly what the GOP is all about at the moment, w/the exception of calling everybody else socialists. Anyway, it makes me laugh when the GOP tries to claim it's the 'Party of Lincoln'. Uh...no.
Word of clarification: I'm of course not disputing the historical fact that the origin of the current GOP resides in the Republican Party of Lincoln's day. My point is that political parties as institutions typically undergo significant ideological transformations & realignments over long periods of time. It seems to me that the Republican Party is an object case.
Right, like how after the civil war all the KKK members and ex-confederates were democrats, and the radical republicans of the north wanted to extend full rights to the slaves.
One of the rumors spread by Adams' camp in this campaign was that Jefferson was dead (after one of Jefferson's slaves passed away). That's how bad it got.
Obama is a socialist, McCain is too but more on the fascism side of that spectrum. Great choices we have here. Over spending and More over spending. Both parties are compromised, if you cant see that than your head is too far up ur own ass. the United States is owned, so is your property. The allodial title of the land, u rest on, is in the hands of the government. 5:1 they used it as collateral toward our ever mounting debt.
Oracle: what kind of socialist are you? if you believe in any form of taxation that is the kind of socialist you are so if you want to remain pure you must be for no taxation of any kind whatsoever at any level. How we pay for govt services then becomes a mystery unless you cop to the fact that land value is created 100% by the community as a whole and is the only appropriate source of revenue to pay for govt services. There never was nor should be anything such as absolute ownership of land.
Im not a socialist, taxation is allowed under the constitution. Also i am not for Government programs. If the states choose to adopt a program that "benefits its community". Thats fine, if i dont agree with the policies, i could vote the politicians out, use my rights to voice my opinion or move out of the state. When u have absolute government control there is no where to go. Also, centralizing power is never a good idea for liberty.
Jefferson & Madison both stated ,and wrote, in 1798 that a state MUST resist federal enforcement of an unconstitutional and dangerous policy.See the Kentucky resolution(1798).Both argued for state centered(not federal) constitutionalism. The const. had been ratified, and the fed govt created(!) by the states for their own purposes.
An interesting video. I may be Canadian but I admire Thomas Jefferson for his works. He's one of those people who did what he could for liberty, religious tolerance, etc.
Jefferson detested slavery, but was resigned to the fact that it had to remain in place for the nation's economy to survive at the time. Establishing the United States was actually a pretty decent step towards at least the POSSIBILITY of eventual abolition, since the British crown had staunchly rebuked and thwarted previous abolition movements within the colonies anyway.
To think that mud slinging started so soon. This is far juicier than that Terrorists want Barrack Obama as president. She should preach about blood on the streets and the destruction of a nation again.
George Washington warned us of political parties.
"They[political parties] serve to organize faction, to give it an artificial and extraordinary force; to put, in the place of the delegated will of the nation, the will of a party, often a small but artful and enterprising minority of the community;"

Thomas Jefferson is an example of why having heroes makes no sense. We should study those who came before us, examine their faults and triumphs, in order to become better people ourselves. Thomas Jefferson was both a gifted intellectual and a immoral cretin. I guess we all are, on some level, and must continue to perfect personally.
parafleet 11 months ago
Not to further complicate things but in fact near all of the below is wrong. Madison wrote the amendments which later became the Bill of Rights, but the Constitution was a collaborative effort amongst the delegates drawing upon a number of sources, not just Madison's input (though he's credited as the 'primary author'). Though whoever said Jefferson had no means to alter it save through Madison (and other Virginians) has it right; Jefferson and Adams were both absent during the drafting process.
Faboba 11 months ago
this isn't an imaginary attack ad. It is just a modern treatment of what was actually used by Adams to convince voters to vote his re-election. It is taken, apparently, pretty much verbatim.
Good job! Too bad the point seems to be lost on those commenting.

Bottom line, it was all wrong, but Lincoln ended it with the emancipation proclamation.
tubecat72 1 year ago
@tubecat72

But when you worship slave owners who owned slaves all their lives, suddenly slavery becomes not so bad. Oh, rally? Maybe Sally Hemings would beg to differ. Or the 20 slaves who ran away in 1775 to fight AGAINST the Americnas and join the British.
1 + 1 doesnt equal 2 in Orwells world. If u own slaves, U cant be against slavery. Hypocrasy
EBanonymous 1 year ago
@EBanonymous Bear in mind that slavery was a trade as well. That means they were traded by their own people for goods. T.J. had developed a sense of conscience and made several attempts to abolish slavery, though congress shot down the idea.
tubecat72 1 year ago
@tubecat72
The kkk had him as their hero too
EBanonymous 1 year ago
@tubecat72
EBanonymous 1 year ago
@EBanonymous If slavery, discomfort, racism is all that comes to mind when encountering opposite color/race, you are not living! I personally consider it to be treason and unthinkable for a country to trade away its own people as property for goods! In many ways, all races throughout history have been enslaved by force or fear, either by the wealthy or residing powers. Taxation is a form of slavery.
tubecat72 1 year ago
@tubecat72
He supported the 13th Amendment (Corwin) to keep slavery & prevent the war in 1861. The Proclamation was a threat to end slavery ONLY in rebel states if they didn't return by January. That was economic/military, not abolitionism.
I suggest you look closer at these things & not just repeat what some historian wants you to believe; these men were not human rights supporters, & Jefferson was off the charts. in 1807 "we shall destroy all of them" he said about indigenous. why?
EBanonymous 1 year ago
@tubecat72

There was a thriving black market in the Colonies that John Hanson & John Jay did quite well with. These men always claimed to be Protestant Christians. There are many quotes floating about fr. private correspondence & taken out-of-context seemingly conveying "atheistic" notions. So? yeah, I find it ironic that this government is now much larger than the one we revolted from.

Avarice176 2 years ago
"The primary reason we revolted was to live in a society free from taxes, central banks, large government and a fiat currency."
The chant was "no taxation without representation" not "no taxes!". It was a political belief that Britain didn't have the right to tax America without their consent.
The modern constitution was not written in 1776 also.
Havermayer 2 years ago 10
@Havermayer Don't forget the "Stamp act" or shall I say "Patriot Act?" The Constitution was signed on 9-17-1787 and approved by nine states on 6-21-1788. "Constitution day" however, is still recognized as the date it was signed.
tubecat72 1 year ago
@Havermayer
actually the primary reason the colonists rebelled is written in the Declaration of Independence. It says "domestic insurrections" and "merciless Indian savages" which referred to Lord Dunmore's Proclamation to free the slaves & the British use of Indiansm which the rebels said would end their economy and threaten them physically.
Those are the lsdt & most important reasons given.

federal waterfowl regulations, federal drug and food administration and federal department of transportation are not state run services, you should think before you talk. Your not a Libertarian, your a confederate. Go luck winning minority votes.
No shit, Liberals are the one's proposing legistive to regulate the FED. The Libertarian just want to shut it down, disregrading the reason why we had it built in the first place.
snowwolf7777 2 years ago
Liberals dont want to regulate the fed...they want to fed to regulate you. And as for the "i vote thereby controlling my government" doesn't work on a federal level. Why do you think the founding fathers created the electoral college? to screw you? no. It was to keep power divided across the country to protect against mob rule. The fed is the cause of our economic problems and people like you think adding to the already clogged arteries of regulations and bureaucracy are going to help.
antenora1009 2 years ago
and I have to disagree with you that I am a confederate...i have no southern heritage or sympathy. Anti-Federalist definitely. Now go watch Nancy Pelosi on CNN liberal.

Lol, centralized banking is not the problem, controlling banks that spend and loan irresponsible is the problem. Your idea's just lead to dictated Corporatism.
snowwolf7777 2 years ago

antenora1009 2 years ago
Corporatism corporatism corporatism... every liberal denounces corporations that get too wealthy and powerful but none ever have a problem with the government lobbying those corporations use to gain power. One corporation cannot rule the entire market without government intervention. Money has a value and that determines the prices in the market. But what happens when the feds double the amount of money overnight and use it for foreign loans and corporate bailouts?
antenora1009 2 years ago
You are effectively stuck with the same amount of cash that is now worth half as much...that is exactly why our economy has gone to shit and it started in 1913 with the federal reserve. So please explain to me how MORE government intervention in the "free" market is going to help?
antenora1009 2 years ago
aw, you still think a free market is perfect? It sounds good on paper, but in real life it doesn't work. The Federal goverment can work and has worked before on if the indivuals behind it represent the true will of the people. Any liberatairn form of goverment can not work, because it will turn into a dicatorship once someone surpass the markets.
snowwolf7777 2 years ago
No, a free market is imperfect...just like the natural order of life that it mimics. Its called dynamics... Dictatorship occurs through political campaigning for ex: Hitler was elected legitimately into office by the German people because he filled them with a strong sense of nationalism when the Treaty of Versailles had them hating the rest of europe and the states.
antenora1009 2 years ago
Very true, Ben Bernanke well have what's coming to him soon enough.
But you really think ending the Fed well cure our ecconmic crises, it might be a branch of the tree, but the roots are much deeper then you think. Society in itself is sick, they buy without money and spend for things they don't need. They get obese and lazy... This is what our society is breeding.... stupidy
snowwolf7777 2 years ago
as I said in a free market, the money has an actual value (as it did backed by gold before the Fed Res). If the fed couldn't artificially inflate money for temporary security then one entity couldn't have it all. Even if one person was able to strike it rich, they would instantly put that money back into the market when they purchased food, goods and services. Once again read into the Fed before you continue your horribly short-sighted argument.
antenora1009 2 years ago
Actural Hitler would have only won 30% of the vote out of a country were only 40% of the country voted. He got to power, because he formed a colloation with a center-right partys. They did this because they were afaird of communist. plus Hilter actural like Britain and America, because of our Nordic roots and thought he could form a partnership.... then again Hitler was crazy and addicted to speed.
snowwolf7777 2 years ago
No such thing as R/L Gov't - Think of it like this...at one end, total governement control. At the other, Anarchy. Right / Left doesn't matter. No government is VERY BAD. Some goverment is good and within this realm exists the perfect co-existance between free people and rule of law.
Too much government is VERY BAD. We are reaching that "point" where its about to get ugly. Right or Left (as the chatty class calls it) is irrelvant. Either extending to too big a goverment - is doomed.
Stingray3440 2 years ago
I only favor the left due to it ties with intellectuals
snowwolf7777 2 years ago
I don't want the gov't doing the impossible. I want the gov't doing what the Constitution says it can and no more. Maximum freedom of the people within the law. Intellectuals my ass. They can be anything they want, but when it comes to writing laws, policies and amendments, they are first and foremost representitives of their voters. That means they do as they are told BY those electing them or get out. Its really that simple. Anything else, no matter how it is "dressed up" is a form of tyrrany.
Stingray3440 2 years ago
well i hate to tell you this but their nothing against "big government" in the Constitution only limits on the power of government. Your thoughts don't represent the majority. besides your right, but they have to complete their term in office or people such as bush would have been gone long ago and the intellectuals are a minor political sect who favor education, science and learning.

So if you don't like paying taxes, renounce your citizenship.
snowwolf7777 2 years ago
I didn't say I would not pay taxes, what I meant was its taxation without representation. Tyrany. Just fine with you apparenty. Not to worry. Most will be getting their ass handed to them in NOV and the ones that are left will be powerless, including BO. So you just keep sucking from that public tit and let the US tax paying citizen fill your feed bag. Child has to work? Humm, like commie CHINA! And that is what you want the US to become? Nope, no matter how hard the Libs try, NOT GONNA HAPPEN.
Stingray3440 2 years ago
You are right, Stingray. with the taxation without representation is tyranny,
except your getting represented by your local congressmen, I feel sorry for you that you have no idea what the founding father's fought the revolution for. I suggest you call your local congressman and ask him to increase the education budget in his reign due to your sad story.
Stingray, your silly. you can't silence progressive thought because it's motivated by pure love, and that why I truly wish you well :D
snowwolf7777 2 years ago
more of my earned money for the free education. what?
Stingray3440 2 years ago
You should lecture me on no taxation without representation. I have friends in DC who are fighting for just that..geting the DC it's own seat
snowwolf7777 2 years ago
@snowwolf7777 But your friends dont pay taxes, they are all on the public dole and wish to vote more largess for themselves. Zero Liability Voters.
supressorgrid 1 year ago
@supressorgrid what? DC residents pay income tax. Why do we lack a vote in the senate although we pay for it.
snowwolf7777 1 year ago
@snowwolf7777 To have representation, you would have to acheive statehood and as the constitution set D.C. up as the seat of government it can't be a state. This is not a desire for representation, but, a dodge to put more leftists into the House and senate.
supressorgrid 1 year ago

Once analzed we coud plot a course of action from their.
snowwolf7777 2 years ago
Well according to Ben Bernanke auditing the fed would destroy the dollar and the American people's hope in the federal government. The son of a bitch is also Time magazine's Man of the Year.

horrible short sighted? friend do you know why they created the fed?

@secretbonus: It's interesting you say "we", because the ideological continuity of Americans 1776 to Americans 2009 is not at all obvious or necessary. Times changes. People change. History repeats itself.

antenora1009 2 years ago

Avarice176 2 years ago
Jefferson was by no means a modern Democrat. As the other guy said, he would be considered a libertarian these days.
Considering Jefferson was in favor of laissez-faire.. he would roll over in his grave if he heard that he was being thrown into the group with Pelosi, Obama, and the economic authoritarians of today.
Avarice176 2 years ago 8
Glenn a democrat hes on faux news now and bill maher is a libertarian when it comes to the moral issues but stand with the lefts idea on how economics should work just look up Ron Paul and Bob Bahr and those are the best most well known versions of libertarians
Makeshiftdemon 2 years ago
actually he was a republican or as to today's standards a libertarian, he believed in small government on all sides moral and economical, though the neocons of today blur the line he drew, look at Ron Paul he's a true Jefferson Republican.

Absolutley! And I totally agree.

Thomas jefferson was a decent man. He is known to be the first Democrat to have sexual scandals. Just listen to who his mistress was related to. His wife through a slave he owned. Bill Clinton wasn't the first to say " I didn't have sexual relations with that woman". He's a good man none the less (Thomas Jefferson I mean, Not slick Willy Bill Clinton)
shgibby61981 3 years ago
We have to be careful about rhetorically equating the political parties of Jefferson's day w/the current Republican & Democratic parties. The Democratic-Republicans espoused some ideas that align w/the current Dems and also some that fit more w/the GOP. Although, frankly it's getting hard to figure out exactly what the GOP is all about at the moment, w/the exception of calling everybody else socialists. Anyway, it makes me laugh when the GOP tries to claim it's the 'Party of Lincoln'. Uh...no.
idealtypical 3 years ago
Word of clarification: I'm of course not disputing the historical fact that the origin of the current GOP resides in the Republican Party of Lincoln's day. My point is that political parties as institutions typically undergo significant ideological transformations & realignments over long periods of time. It seems to me that the Republican Party is an object case.
idealtypical 3 years ago
Right, like how after the civil war all the KKK members and ex-confederates were democrats, and the radical republicans of the north wanted to extend full rights to the slaves.

People today want to whine about negative politics and say crap like McCain's campaign is the most negative ever, lol.
Crooky0 3 years ago
One of the rumors spread by Adams' camp in this campaign was that Jefferson was dead (after one of Jefferson's slaves passed away). That's how bad it got.
AllenbysEyes 3 years ago
Obama is a socialist, McCain is too but more on the fascism side of that spectrum. Great choices we have here. Over spending and More over spending. Both parties are compromised, if you cant see that than your head is too far up ur own ass. the United States is owned, so is your property. The allodial title of the land, u rest on, is in the hands of the government. 5:1 they used it as collateral toward our ever mounting debt.
ORACLE063 3 years ago
Oracle: what kind of socialist are you? if you believe in any form of taxation that is the kind of socialist you are so if you want to remain pure you must be for no taxation of any kind whatsoever at any level. How we pay for govt services then becomes a mystery unless you cop to the fact that land value is created 100% by the community as a whole and is the only appropriate source of revenue to pay for govt services. There never was nor should be anything such as absolute ownership of land.
ourearthhome 3 years ago
Im not a socialist, taxation is allowed under the constitution. Also i am not for Government programs. If the states choose to adopt a program that "benefits its community". Thats fine, if i dont agree with the policies, i could vote the politicians out, use my rights to voice my opinion or move out of the state. When u have absolute government control there is no where to go. Also, centralizing power is never a good idea for liberty.
ORACLE063 3 years ago
Jefferson & Madison both stated ,and wrote, in 1798 that a state MUST resist federal enforcement of an unconstitutional and dangerous policy.See the Kentucky resolution(1798).Both argued for state centered(not federal) constitutionalism. The const. had been ratified, and the fed govt created(!) by the states for their own purposes.

An interesting video. I may be Canadian but I admire Thomas Jefferson for his works. He's one of those people who did what he could for liberty, religious tolerance, etc.

No one is perfect.
TheCanadianPrairies 3 years ago
Jefferson detested slavery, but was resigned to the fact that it had to remain in place for the nation's economy to survive at the time. Establishing the United States was actually a pretty decent step towards at least the POSSIBILITY of eventual abolition, since the British crown had staunchly rebuked and thwarted previous abolition movements within the colonies anyway.
TrentSteeele 3 years ago
The fact that he owned slaves himself and thought blacks inferior to whites probably had something to do with that as well.

This commercial is totally dope.
To think that mud slinging started so soon. This is far juicier than that Terrorists want Barrack Obama as president. She should preach about blood on the streets and the destruction of a nation again.
That is good entertainment.
