  • It would be helpfull instead to see progressions building up on the scale. Why doesn't anyone take a song first and explain how to armonize or build a progression for a song? To have a progression and after try to use it, is like having a shoe and a star looking for a foot. I rather know my foot and look for the shoe.

  • @37no37 that's not what this is about . i'm just introducing people to jazz chords, and i'm trying to make it interesting by making an intro. harmonizing on a scale is a whole different can of worms . if people learn all the chords i'm showing ,they will be able to play backup on almost any tune .

  • you are great, may I ask you something?

  • @37no37 thank you ! ask away .

  • love your lessons freddie . you make it fun . and evryone knows jazz is like hard sums

  • Incredible lessons! thanks a lot, they are helping me a lot these days. The first part of the lesson number 5 doesn't load partially it's a pity, a couple of months ago I remember it worked well.

    Thanks once again

  • i'm really glad you like the lessons.valandsound ! but i don't understand why you can't get all the lesson on your computer. it works fine on all 4 of our computers.

  • I just checked it right now and it seems to work perfectly well, maybe yesterday there was a problem with the server or with my computer... anyway freddy, great work with all the videos and everything, incredible sounding chords and very clear explanations.

    Thanks from Spain,

  • Great lessons, wonderful improvizations and perfect guitar sound!

But unfortunately it looks like I can't find lessons 1-4 on the channel? Do they exist at all?

  • thx gonnaplayguitar ! i removed 1-4 because i didn't use diagrams.i put them in a better order in the other lessons.

  • I love your teaching, but I wonder why Bbdim consistes of G note. How is it related with b3 and b5 of being diminish chord. Please give me explanation. I am interested in your lesson.

  • @thanapon2519 //// G is the b7 of Bb /// dim chord = R - b3rd - b5th - b7. some people call it a diminished 7th.

but most times it is just written Bbdim.

  • @freddym223 Thanks a lot for your explanation. I am practicing them.

  • thanks for these videos - they have been really helpful. I was wondering if you could do a lesson on ur amp set-up and how to produce that classic 'jazzy' sound that a lot of players get...?

  • hi bigboy8338 . check out my videos on "autumn leaves" and "this masquerade".i give my amp and settings under more info.

  • forgot to say that i'm always interested of course in the changes you would suggest if you have time ;-) many thanks and have a nice day !

  • perfect Freddy, i'll give it a try ! thanks !!

  • thanks for putting East of the Sun on your list. i understand you have many requests. i will try with these chords i've found on the internet ;-)

    /GMa7 /C9 /Bm7 Am7/D7

    /GMa7 /C9 /Bm7 /E9 /Am9/ Am9/Cm7 /F9

    /Am7 /D7 /F#7 B7/Em7 /A13 /Em9 A7 /Am7 /D7

    /GMa7 /C9 /Bm7 /E9 /Am9/ Am9/Cm7 /F9

    /Am7 /F9 /Em7 /A13 /Am7 /F9 D7 /Bm7 /Bbm7

    /Am7 /Ab7 /G6 /Am7 D7

  • @Area51JD okay.this will work.i would make a few changes though. i hope you know that the first 4 bars is the intro.the tune starts on the 2nd line

  • Great lesson, thanks !! Can you please post a video or the chords you use for East of the Sun ?

  • thx Area51JD ! i'll put on it my list.but i can't promise anything as i have tons of requests.keep going on the lessons and you might find some interesting things that might help.

  • I can see that doing jazz solos would be easy just by making arpeggios from each of these chords. Is that how you do it?

  • @silverfrost1 I guess that's one way to do it. but i just jazz around the melody.read my profile and check out my lesson #10 where i try to explain it.

  • Hi Freddy, how can someone thumb down, when everything is for free? I don´t like that rating stuff, never did ;-) Good lesson, handmade, with the experience of decades - and that´s what counts.

    See you, Frank

  • Thanks Freddy.

  • your very welcome jennyomalley !

  • i got it :) thank you. your lessons are truly making this easier for me. im used to breaking it down and writing out how the major turns into a diminished and having it all in front of me but with practice i can just hear and tell. awesome lessons i truly mean it !

  • true. i was wondering as to what settings you use on ur amp and for some reason im having a hard time learning the chords in this video :/ i have all of the other ones down but not these, its weird to me :P

  • @franekjanekbanek anything new will seem weird.you have to work at it.different amps will need different

settings.i give my amp settings on"this masquerade"and "autumn leaves"under more info.by the way.my wife learned every chord in my lessons in 3 months, and can back me on any tune i play

  • hey i was wondering, i can never get a good tone :/ ive been trying and trying but i cant get a nice deep jazzy tone :/ please help. your videos are fantastic!!

  • thx franekjanekbanek ! use the neck pickup only and pick close to the neck.but so much depends on the amp, pickup, guitar and touch.

  • Thank you Freddy very helpful and inspiring lessons, great stuff

    Didav

  • thx DidavG ! i'm always glad hear that !

  • Great lesson freddy-thank you. love your humour too.

  • thx martyjarvis ! glad you like the annotations ! just my weird sense of humor kicking in ! lol !

  • Hello Freddy, thanks for the lesson and hope you are having wonderful Christmas holidays. I searched in the past comments for the answer to my question and found only: "...don't think... it's just an intro...play, use your ears". That's a good answer but anyway, would you bother to explain the harmonic function of the "diminished tonic # chord", like C#dim? Does it simply provides a smooth move to the II (Dmi7) chord?

  • hi VinniePaah . check out lesson # 10. it goes along with this lesson. the dim. chord works on it's own on some tunes. it also acts as a b9 chord like when you go from a b9 chord to a dom.7th chord.this might become more understandable if you go through all my lessons

  • very nice i learnd a lot i hope i could have a jazz teacher like you....

  • thx jokel05 ! just keep going on my lessons and i'll be your teacher for 7 more lessons

  • i watched a lot of high tech guitar lesson videos. I think your lessons are just as good. Very fundamental and nice progressions.

  • I just want to say these videos are helping me out tremendously!!! I have played guitar for about 6-7 years but have only played hard rock and metal. Here recently I have been wanting to broaden my playing by getting into a little jazz and I tell you...these videos have been a great help! I just want to thank you for taking your time to post these excellent lessons to help people out, keep up the great work!!!

  • @06guitarist thx for letting me know the lessons are helping ! it means a lot !

  • I love what you do, Thanks

  • thx for nice comment shaaimsax !

  • Hey Freddy! I have been practicing really hard and I discovered something interesting since I've been following your lessons. I have been playing guitar for 13 plus years now and I've always been a pick kind of fella. Well, with these chords and progressions, I find myself using fingers more than my picks! It just sounds and feels better to me this way. Any thoughts?

  • @shango02005 if it feels good do it.i have nerve damage to my right hand and cant move my fingers.so have to use a pick.that being said,i prefer the sound of a pick on steel strings

  • Wow Freddy. Just got back. been on the road a lot. This is a really easy method to make great music.

    Your old coot pal.

    JP

  • thx abdef ,you old coot ! now get on that axe and make some music ! :-)

  • Hi Freddy,

whole world is looking at you. Or at least one guy from Prague, who would like to thank you. I play guitar for half of my live and I never got into jazz. Now I learned from two of your videos in one hour more then in those 15 years. I will need to watch all your work here.

Thank you very much for all your videos they are very appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Martin

  • @spapanek1 - thx Martin ! i hope you get something out of these lessons

  • wow sounds so beatiful! The only problem I have is muting the strings... Do you have got any tipps for me ? :)

    Thanks Freddy!

  • @gschupfter -I wish i had explained this.to block the 5th string, use the finger thats on the 6th string and let it touch the 5th string to dampen the sound.to block the 1st string, run your pick into the first string to stop it without sounding it

  • thank you :))))))DDDDD

  • your very welcome :-) andrew625 !

  • thanks !

  • thx for visiting viniguitarjazz ! and your very welcome

  • Thank You Mr Freddy for your lessons. I almost gave up my guitar playing, but now I think I'm staring up again with your help and I polish up my knowledge. Thx.

  • Hi Freddie - I cannot believe how good you are. I'm going to be in the States for a month in October - any good guitar clubs you know of around the Florida area? All my mates think you are such a professional you should be famous.

  • YOU ARE THE BEST.NO SELFISHNESS.JUST SIMPLE AND EASY.THANKS

  • YOU ARE THE BEST.

  • What type of effects are you useing. Do you have some minor delay and a good touch of reverb. I have a little Roland cube 30 that has a nice tone but you can't use reverb and delay at the same time. Any tips?

  • @arkrob89 -with the cube 60 i use delay only.it's like your cube 30 in that respect

  • hey! great video! i actually learned a lot. but i dont know how to play bflat diminished. someone tell me -.-

  • @BossGaldon Go to 2:24 .the diagram is there.watch the whole vidreo.all you need is there.just slide the G#din up 2 frets

  • Thanks!! Having a fun time learning them all.

  • thx JoseppyMD ! glad to hear your going through all of them!

  • if your like a basic to intermediate player would you recomend learning the blues / rock n roll ect before jumping in to jazz i being playing a year and keep getting drawn to like jazz as apposed to rock and stuff do you think it would be wise to learn more first

  • @paddymanz -hi.if you can make these chords,go for jazz .it isnt that hard.just take it slow

  • if your like an basic to intermediate player would you recomend getting familiar with bues and rock n roll ect before jumping in to jazz or do you think its irrelivant what you learn first cheers freddy

  • nah man you have a really nice voice for singing!

  • thx Alex ! but i'll stick to guitar . lol

  • ye but analyzing this chord progression, forget the scales, where this chord progression fit? how do you do it ? how do you explain in teory ? how do you know that you can use this 2 modal diminishing chord?

    thank's

  • forget theory.just use your ears and play to the progression.its just an intro.just make a diminished run over the diminished chord

  • just make arpeggios over each chord to start with to get the sound in your head

  • i don't understand what Scalethis chord progression is.

i know the major, minor, melodic and harmonic, and this chord progression don't fit in anyof then..

it look like the G major C.H. but that diminish chord don't fit..

can you tell me why ?

  • this is an intro. play notes that fit the chords, not scales.check out lesson # 10
