  • Driving your knee into their ass (I know it sounds terrible) and arching your back like a cat while doing the same thing with your hands is a great way of creating space and even opening guard.

    Good vids, keep it up!

  • what are some submissions when in someones closed guard? or possible methods to open up their guard?

  • The general rule for most jiu jitsu and grappling is NOT to attack while in someone's guard. Your goal is to break the guard, get a better position and then attack.

  • this is a method to open up their guard and pass to side control:

shove ur right knee in their ass then extend ur left leg backwards

then u out ur hands on their stomach and extend ur body backwards to break there guard and shove ur hand in between their leg and ur body then cross ur hand to their shoulder and pass to side control

  • Generally any arm or head submission attempt will be countered by them pushing you away. Legs are normally too strong to fight.

Dropping back for a leg against a closed guard is just asking for trouble.

  • heh dont try and submit anyone in their guard youll get swept and you'll just look kind of funny. There is one submission but its illegal in most tournaments; if u do a can opener neck crank, however the opponent can just open their guard but most people can't think that far ahead when their neck is getting bent.

  • The submission101 videos, helped me so much with my sparring game by viewing so many techniques over and over and apply it in my sparring sessions. Free information that instructors would charge you 60$/hour or more. That is priceless! On Youtube you guys have my respect. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

  • hey.

I happen to get in a position all the time. Its when i have someone in my guard and they put pressure on my throught with their forearm. And at the same time stacking and pushing all of their weight on me.

any ideas on how to remove that forearm?

  • if your guard is tight enough you should be able to squeeze your knees together and pull them down before they are able to stack because when they go to stack there is a second where they are a bit off balance. You just have to time it and pull them down which will remove the pressure from their forearm on your throat.

    If that helps?

  • usually i take a grab of the opponents wrist and with the other hanh i hit against the elbow and at the same time i twist my body ... u should be able to set up an armtriangle this way ;) ... it really works for me all the time (sorry for my english)

  • lol thanks for the ear warning. this is one drill or move i will not be practicing! =D

  • Great video.

    5 stars!

  • I was having problems with this earlier today. somethings seem so simple but it'll definately work for me, thanks.

  • Ari, can you talk more about hand fighting? I am getting controlled by stronger uki in their guard. You showed a nice technique in the vid. Any chance you can elaborate on breaking an opponents grip from the top?

  • another good video dude. When he grabbed your wrists did you counter grab or just shake away.

  • your intro has the sound of the t-rex from the first jurassic park movie in it now

  • good ear..you are correct!

  • Another highly useful tutorial - great stuff! Keep 'em coming!

  • What if they're holding you down with an RNC/figure four type grip?

  • sweet. good tips!

  • Another thing I like to do is push with the tip of my head into their solar plexus, so when they're pulling me down, it takes the wind out of them & is kinda painful. If you roll it it hurts more.

  • w00t! thanks for this video! Since I'm a BJJ rookie, I tend to dislike getting caught in guard because I always end up in someone's leg-triangle. At least now, I have a defense for it so I can create space. I do have a question; could you do a series on strategies when fighting an opponent of disimilar size?

  • Nice! I even downloaded it.

  • While you're getting pulled down: slip one hand behind his neck, slip the other on the throat => attempt scissor choke/ezekiel. Good idea?
