Sorry but Richter owns this one...Rubinstein sounds to staccato to me for the lush romanticism of the nocturnes... Arrau however is very close to Richter...
Pianiste fabuleux, un des meilleurs interprètes de Chopin, avec Arthur Rubinstein, Samson François, Alfred Cortot.... et d'autres qu'on ne pourrait pas tous nommer ici. Merci pour cette vidéo.
@0blacone I answer your comment although you suppressed it ;) I don't think you can say that about Arrau, he was not the kind of pianist that would show off, and certainly not with an easy trill. He probably thought it was the best way to render it. As for Rachmaninoff, his interpretations are very special and old school, yet very interesting. I think however that most people just like them only because it's Rach, and don't understand them fully...
@godelike yeah, you see i removed them, because i had to listen to rachmaninoff play Chopin, one more time, and i found it that it is absolutely amazing... so my argument didnt work anymore, and I also thought it might be dangerous to say such things on youtube xD i don't want to get slaughtered =P
The two interpretations - this by Claudio Arrau and one by Horowitz are absolute treasures. Remarkable sound of both pianists, expressivness, frazing is astonishing, to say the least.
That's the real piano school.Todays young clowns sporting Versace suits have no idea how to play the piano.
@finepianos I agree with you. People today focus too much on their looks instead of on the music, on the sound....and so, genius gets sacrificed to the mundane. But I have faith that there are still true musicians out there!
C'è una registrazione introvabile che io ho perso(mi viene da piangere)di Re Arturo B.M. e in questo caso è la 1° volta che non riesco a scegliere.Morto Arrau,fine di un'epoca.

It sounds so organic, not "contrived" as I thought the nocturnes had to sound due to listening to the non masters!

It's wonderful, though a bit too fast.

@OpenPagan
Try Pollini's version of this nocturne you'll see what fast means hehehe...
Not fast that's the average time for this piece 4 minutes + something...
