Man, I love list!!! Perhaps I do not agree with some Pink Floyd songs and I would include some ELP, Magma, Caravan and Focus songs. Anyway good job!!!
try high tide man, my favourite prog/psichedelic rock band from uk! and also some albums from the incrdible italian progressive rock scenes! instead great band and songs here!
Hey, if you are a big prog fan do a search on Youtube for 'As It Is' by Patrick Gabriel Doyle - it's new music but in that classic prog idiom - it's in 6 parts on youtube and of course takes a few listens to get into it, man :-)
the top ten is almost perfect! but echoes on #1 spot? it kind of let me down....especially beating close to the edge, which is maybe the perfect progressive rock composition.
I must admit to never really seeing Pink Floyd or Supertramp as Prog Rock. Nice selection though mate and thanks for sharing this. Really interesting to listen to and you have great taste in rock music of course! :-)
Does not matter am I agree with you or not (number 2 I agree. Number 1 for me is your number 14 :))... That is a great starting point for progressive music educational tour, congratulations!
Oh, and one more thing: I don't care what you're going to reply me, but Rush ISN'T Prog -___- It's fake prog. Well, personnally I think it ruins real progressive rock....
@Pouliot27 What the fuck man! Rush is one of the worlds best prog rock bands. If you don't beleive me, then search up the songs 2112, Farewell to kings, La villa strangiato, Cygnus X-1(both parts), Xanadu, and Bytor and the snowdog. Then, after you've listened to all of them, tell me what you think of rush.
Awesome list, honnestly. But no ELP? No Focus?? No HARMONIUM?!?!? NO MANEIGE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? But still, even with a top 1000, i don't think it's possible to do a list of the BEST progressives song. There are so many genre, so many bands, so many songs, so many GREAT songs!! But still, it IS a great list :)
YES! echoes is my fave song! but you missed six degrees of inner turbulence by dream theater my 2nd fave. and no uriah heep! that band is awesome just listen pilgrim and july morning. and i think you should have included opeth in the list.
bello... con belle sorprese come kaipa...per i miei gusti personali mancano led zeppelin.... e i procol harum non c'entrano niente... una domanda... ma gli italiani erano proprio scarsi ? pfm...banco... orme...non mi pare che sfigurerebbero
@bankruptfilly i was just about to write its not enough rush in this list for sure. when tom sawyer kicked in the rest of the list got raped instantly
for all the King crimson songs you have, i'm a little surprised that you don't have "In The Wake Of Poseidon" on there. and Tom Sawyer's your favorite Rush song?? check out "Cygnus x-1" (and book II) by Rush if you haven't already heard it. Good list though Pink Floyd is my favorite!
Good top ten we must be on the same beam as i have every one of these 50 albums bar three..not keen on floyd..yeah I know a die hard progger who hates floyd...I preferred Yes and Genesis
Saludos.
@spirospnyts Sure, but Echoes is nowhere near psychedelic as just about any piece on that album. Or plenty of other albums from the mid-late 60's, when psychedelia was all the rage. Echoes does have psychedelic qualities, but you can't see the acid dripping from it like you can with Interstellar Overdrive, for instance.
@zackjp Tom sawyer is more pop. Cygnus is the best Rush songs (both of them). I have everything from Pink Floyd (from 66-94) and for Rush i have all their old albums from 74-82. Xanadu is another one of my favs
"The Perfect Element" by Pain of Salvation is probably my favorite Progressive Rock song, yet not many people have heard of them. Actually, the entire album is astounding! But these songs are wonderful too, more than enough to keep me occupied for a while. It's better than the stagnant pop-culture music I hear on the radio with my sister all the time. Thanks!
Fantastic list. Though don't get me wrong, Echoes is awesome, but for number 1? That should have been more like Yes of King Crimson. They're like the definition of prog.
Also, come on, Karn Evil 9? Tarkus? Out of all those songs..........
Excellent choice! And I loved the moments you picked from the tracks too! After you put Supper's Ready at #4, I thought - WHAT'S BETTER?!? But those other three are all fabulous too! Guessed Echoes would be at #1, although the "whale crying" in the middle does drag a bit, imho - lovely to hear Soon and Starless in your Top 10 too! Great choices!
Man I've been watching a lot a video of guys making their top 10-20-50, of their favorites songs, and seriously, I don't remember having see someone making a better top 50 as you. Great Taste !
When I saw the #50, I already knew that it was going to be an amazing list.
I would have Close to the edge at no.1 but am a Yesfreak!!
Good to see that track right up there at no.2 though

Glad you represented Selling England by the Pound a lot. Best Genesis lp imo.
And I love Echos that much too - though I might reverse your top two but who cares...

Epitaph by King Crimson
Starship Troopers by Yes
Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd
Fallen Angel by King Crimson
One more Red Nightmare by King Crimson

Pretty good lust, but a couple of things:
-WHERE IS ELP??????? TARKUS SHOULD BE IN TOP 10!
-DOGS AT 30? PERSONAL TOP 5
-ONLY DREAM THEATER SONG IS PULL ME UNDER? LISTEN TO HOME, METROPOLIS PART 1 AND OCTAVARIUM
-ONLY RUSH SONG IS TOM SAWYER? LISTEN TO CYGNUS X-1 BOOK I and II, 2112, AND LA VILLA STRANGIATO
-IF PROG METAL BANDS LIKE DT ARE INCLUDED, WHY THE FUCK IS THERE NO TOOL?
However... I AGREE 110% THAT ECHOeS IS #1! BEST SONG EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
