Geez louise! What kind of show is this!?! From what I can get from the comments, I guess this guy is blatantly making fun of what's on tv in japan, and at the same time is going to make a profit from it all. Sounds pretty awesome to me.
estos monos me dan miedo miren en el minuto 0:18 - 0:19 cuando se rie la mona de rosa y luego se da una vuelta(al mismo tiempo) le salen dientes cmo mounstruo y los ojos O.O
I love every second of this except for the fart. lol
But seriously, this guy is a genius. They had a huge painting of his at the Portland Art Museum with these characters on it - and I mean it was HUGE. I couldn't stop staring at it.
the first time i heard about this guy was from the kanye west music video i thought who ever did the video had to be a genius. then when i started to look at alot of his art work my mother had noticed and asked me to wacth a tv documentary about him with her. when she looked at some of his art work she fliped out and thought his work was the ugliest thing she had ever seen. i think this guy is the coolest artist to ever live though
People do have very subjective tastes... and I have to say, your mom is indeed from the older generation. She doesn't seem like the kind of person to appreciate any art that is not a century old...
I just recently heard of Takashi Murakami in September because of my Introduction to Art class. But i have seen his work for sometime and wondered who's work it belong to.
I saw two episodes or clips of these cartoons at an exhibition and they were so much fun. Where can I get more (with English subtitles), does anybody know?
nothing like warhol in my honest opinion. I believe Murakami is capitalizing on a joke. He understands the market's nature and uses his abilities to both critique and manipulate the market.
His art would be enjoyed more in any Western country. He would only be well-known in Japan for the fame he garnered overseas. This is not meant to be an insult in any way. As a former citizen of the East and now living in Canada, I still do appreciate his art.
I have to say it is qute. I like it, not everyone is going to like this kind of thing. I like the fact that it is a mix of new ideas not the same things that you have seen time and time again.
I hate people who trash other people. If you visit the website and read his interviews, he doesn't claim this as his work. He actually posts the artists of the characters and the background artists. He arranges the work and helps run the company that promotes them. Jeez, why don't you put all this negativity to your own work or something instead of posting how much you hate this or that.
I saw the first episode at MOCA as well and really liked it. As for the art itself, Murakami definitely has talent, but I don't see the WOW factor. The Louis Vuitton bags are aweful. They just charcter slap Murakmi's art on an average and overpriced bag. Not worth art. However, he did do a LV mural, which was great. They should've have used that for the bag. If you can, check out the exhibit, it's fun at the very least.
I saw the first episode at MOCA today. At first, all I wanted I wanted to see was the Kanye West video that featured this guy's art, but then the story got to me. I liked it overall.
For those who want to know, Murakami is having an exhibition at MOCA(an art museum in LA) till sometime in Feb.
IT is a copy of the Coke Commercial beamed on vending machines throughout Japan and on video screens in Shinjuku. CHECK SOURCES befreo you heap praise on the wrong sources folks
it is interesting that when confronted with actual people who can combat quotidian ideas everyone gets upset to see their hero deflated so quickly. Instead of lambasting me, why dont you all check out the works of of others who are not so neo-orientalist
I LOVE TAKASHI MURAMAKMI !!!! Deffinately one of the most brilliant artists alive today. How can anyone not love Kaikai and Kiki?!?! I wish there was a way I could put this on my ipod. Anyone know when this movieis going to be released. Its on the website but only in japanese
it is funny you put some interesting people who make murakostabi look like the Neo-Orientalist hack that he is and instead of research and independent evaluation people just want to dismiss your comment! hahah He is just playing the western public exactly like Mark Kostabi did in the 90s try reading his Japnese manifesto if you dont believe me.
I guess you're right, it makes me feel weird because the Japanese know that the way you can appeal to the west is by bright colors and shine. The combination of Murakami and Louis Vuitton is a perfect example of this. Although Murakami's work was founded on ideas like this and the manipulation of the media.
lmao I love the little farting one. And the fact that they run up the stairs with toilet plungers made me almost pee my pants. Seriously. I had to replay it at least 5 times. whoa.
The are soooo cute! I have to watch this at least once a day and I wish, wish, wish there were a full length anime in the making from this... trailer? Maybe?

if you think you like Murakostabi then try some other real talents search out
Dehara
Makoto Aida
Tenmyouya Hishashi
Otogai
Oyajiworld
and a few other harder hittin pieces.
Murakostabi wants to be the next Warhol but is not able to go that far. He is basically a brand designer and hack.
