After their 3rd album, their guitarist left, so it's only natural that they had a different sound (to me it sounds a little bit Every Time I Die influenced, which is unlike the previous albums.)

@Obskyrig I just do not like it because the album in general feels rushed, is sloppy technically, vocally, and lyrically. Really just feels like they put out an album simply to put out an album. Granted, it has it's high points (this song) but overall it was just sloppily played, produced, and thought out. The Tropic Rot sounds a lot more like what Versions should have sounded like if they put their time and their heart into it.

PTW continue to push the limits on what true hardcore, metalcore, metallica hardcore(personally who give a fuck???), and just because a band decides to experiment doesn't mean they've decided to leave their old fans behind. I knew Jeffrey growing up in SoFlo and he's one of the most creative people I have ever met... and I don't hear country overtones.... and just because they sing doesn't mean they've one soft.... in fact, I think Versions fucking owns TOOD and TFTR
i completely agree with the proponents of the new record. this is a different approach to heavy music- well, since i last checked six years ago. the riffs and textures in this song are evocative and slide solo adds a new dimension of musical tension. while this music hasn't much of a place in my life anymore i have to laud their efforts for going out on a limb and making a effort to expand a derivitive genre that sadly appeals to demographic comprised of a mass amount of closed minds.
This song and video are both really good. Honestly if you think old poison the well was better then w/e listen to that. They have gotten a lot more artsy and creative. I never really liked them this much before.

Fuck's sake, Acacia Strain released their first in '02 as well. Then YCBY came out in '03 and they were starting to break out of the same-old and experiment with new sounds. Wait four years and we have Versions - another great album. Not by any means a masterpiece, but definately great, coherent album.
Fucking fantastic video and track. These guys are pioneers and they're still just as relevant as ever in my mind. "Versions" wasn't an instant hit to me but over time I've come to dig it. "Lazzaro" from T.F.T.R. is still my favorite Well track ever, though.

Sure those bands broke ground but that's what PTW is doing.
A shitload of their fans hate everything after The Opposite of December cause it's not "hardcore" enough.
I love PTW's evolution and I can't wait for Tropic Rot to come out.

Saying they are original is retarded. They are part of an age old scene (hardcore punk started in the late 70's early 80's). people have been in coherrantly shouting into mics and beating down their instruments long before PTW cam out.

PTW continue to push the limits on what true hardcore, metalcore, metallica hardcore(personally who give a fuck???), and just because a band decides to experiment doesn't mean they've decided to leave their old fans behind. I knew Jeffrey growing up in SoFlo and he's one of the most creative people I have ever met... and I don't hear country overtones.... and just because they sing doesn't mean they've one soft.... in fact, I think Versions fucking owns TOOD and TFTR

i completely agree with the proponents of the new record. this is a different approach to heavy music- well, since i last checked six years ago. the riffs and textures in this song are evocative and slide solo adds a new dimension of musical tension. while this music hasn't much of a place in my life anymore i have to laud their efforts for going out on a limb and making a effort to expand a derivitive genre that sadly appeals to demographic comprised of a mass amount of closed minds.

Anyone who doesn't dig their new album must just be stuck in the haze of generic breakdown hardcore. That shit's old news. Opposite of December was from fucking '99/'00, TFTR was from '02. Fuck's sake, Acacia Strain released their first in '02 as well. Then YCBY came out in '03 and they were starting to break out of the same-old and experiment with new sounds. Wait four years and we have Versions - another great album. Not by any means a masterpiece, but definately great, coherent album.

Fucking fantastic video and track. These guys are pioneers and they're still just as relevant as ever in my mind. "Versions" wasn't an instant hit to me but over time I've come to dig it. "Lazzaro" from T.F.T.R. is still my favorite Well track ever, though.
