  • Brilliant Film that reminds me of Andre Tarkovsky.

  • So amazing and so spooky I love it. I got to work with Super-8 film back in the late 90's and have a few of those films on my channel. They are music videos and light hearted. Take care and keep up the great work!

  • Andy, what were some of your influences for making this?

  • Cool

  • A bit lengthy. Lost me toward the end.

  • You managed to capture a sense of foreboding and paranoia very well!

  • On my youtube channel i've just uploaded Part One of Six short film/ experimental film series from UK we're making.. would love to have some feedback we're new to this and are inspired from videos such as these :D good luck also with other videos you creat keep up the good work!! x

  • too good....i was hypnotized throughout...weirddd

  • wow....awesome short film!

  • If you would be so kind as to watch my experimental video, i'm still new at this, but i love it. Tell me what you think, must criticism is needed so i can do better on the next one. Thank you.

  • why must all experimental films be creepy as fuck?

  • very eerily done. excellent.

  • nice shot of the birds very atmospheric

  • Genuinely freaky.

Not really sure what a "Super 8" film is, if someone could explain, I'd be grateful.

But I love the ambiance, and sound especially.

  • Great piece. Brings David lynch to mind and 'the Ring'. Love the sound track. Very cool. Nothing like actual tape rather than digitally created film grain.

  • THE MOVIE WAS LEAKED WATCH IT ONLINE FREE STREAMING!

    It's confirmed legit!

  • That was great!

  • Very silent hill. Feels like a nightmare.

  • wer mehr analoge Filmkunst bestaunen will

schaut auf den Staubfilm Kanal 8 und 16mm

    Kurzfilme und Musikvideos

  • excellent

  • great stuff

  • Where can I find more high quality artistic underground dark experimental videos like this? Maybe I'm not searching hard enough, but a lot of the stuff I've seen on youtube so far really are not that great.

  • good job man, this reminds me of silent hill and the ring

  • Comment removed

  • I like, but I need see Again.

  • Unbelievablbly goood!!!!

  • great love it ! gritty real and disturbing......in the best possible way ! well done more more more !

  • i enjoyed watching the texture of the leef's 3:55

  • This is great! I wish my old 8mm still worked, anyway. Fantastic film.

  • haha, the music sounds exactly like the band robe. great video.

  • Fantastic... I would like to try some Super 8 too. I do numeric movies but I want to add this visual ambiance. Which cameras do you recommand me ?

  • Thanks for your comment, I recommend the Braun Nizo 801 with macro. You can pick them up off ebay for around £200 - they do timelapse and you have control over the shutter to do some effects as seen in Night Call. If you've got the cash there is a pro model as well at around £300 and i've heard these are worth the money and shoot at 25fps.

  • Great !

    -sorry I'm a newbie-

Do we need to develop the film to project it or copy to dvd ? I hope Super-8 won't die...

  • Its good for a dream and if you wanted to showcase some effects/tricks youve learned, but if you were trying to get something across- it seemed a bit incomprehensible. A little TOO grainy and distorted. also..seems like The whole TVs flickering and spitting and going fuzzy is uber clich- seems to be in every recent horror film. But hey, you got balls to go into 8mm, keep on truckin

  • "Experimental Super 8 Film"

    Experimental.

  • One thing I've always wanted to capture are the sounds and sights of dreams.

    This was great, thanks.

  • I love this film!

  • good film.

  • You can take a lot of interesting and usefull points from this film, I especially like the grainy and green tint which clearly explains that it is an imaginery world although I would like to see a shorter, more punchy version, well done.

  • Cool video! How did you convert the physical takings from the super 8mm camera to a digital file?

  • pretty cool

  • too cliche, bad acting, decent images. compliments on sound editing. scenes were repeated too much. glad to see you using super8 though. keep it up!

  • all films are cliche to an extent. infact isn't everything?

  • Your comment is a cliche.

  • LIFE is a cliché and yes.. that includes your existance.

as awell, i could argue that your comment, stating that my comment is a cliché is infact a cliché within itself.

  • Really amazing imagery, but, what was it about at all? The narrative seemed far too hidden by convoluted atmospherics, interesting though.

  • great audiovisual treatment. I wanna work with Super8 now... hahahaha!!

I don't get the point of the "multiplication" at th end... I don't think is necessary.

  • V good. I really like your films.

  • the sound was great! i didn't feel the actor tho... camera work was pretty good also.

the plot kind of lost me at the telephone in the woods.

all in all a pretty cool film.

  • Good work, you used a bunch of well used images to drive the story but between the audio and the super-8 film you kept it from being a cliche and kept me caring about the character(s). if you're doing anything else please let me know...

  • check out my super8mm stuff!

  • Wow Andy...I love this film! Super 8 is something I've been wanting to get into...I love the texture...I'm relatively new to film/video; my background's in music/audio engineering/sound design.

What would you recommend as a good place to start experimenting with Super 8, as far as equipment?

Cheers for the captivating video! Very intriguing!

    MooT

  • that was great man

  • Nice work!

  • Wow...who are you? David Lynch or George Orwelle? Awesome stuff.

  • Excellent. Alot of creative depth and great sound design....It has inspired me for my short.....

  • Wow, cool stuff. Dug your music and sound design. I just got a Nizo 801 macro..replaced my canon 1014xl and it's an amazing camera for sure.

  • It's rubbish. Seems to be no message after all. Just playing with effects. Poor.

  • firstly it's better than anything on your youtube page which is blank - so i challenge you to make something better - Secondly your right - this is an experiment and if you had bothered to read about on my myspace page you would have an idea what the experiment involved. Many thanks

  • I wouldn't call it rubbish. I mean the sound is good.

  • hello,

did you use (especially in the beging of you video) any filters or something like this?

if yes, can you please tell me where you find them, in what software, and how you use them in little words please?

  • Its all super 8mm no filters - i shot on an old russian stock called quatzchrome wich gives it the strange effect. The only bit done in the edit was where I keyed images over the TV screen and you can see this quite easily as I made a shoddy job of it.

  • Nice. What Camera did you use? Film Type? Did you achieve these effects in camera or in post?

  • Hello, Nizo 801 Macro, all effects are in camera apart from when i keyed an image over the TV screen. With the nizo there are functions that allow you to play with the film speed and also exposure times. Many thanks

  • Thanks. Keep shooting on Super 8 so there will always be a demand for it.

  • quite awesome great sound design nice work

  • really nice, especially the soundtrack.

  • Well done! Great sound!

  • Is the eerie graininess a quality of super 8 or post production and if so any tips on how to do??

  • Nice work, great sound!

  • Wow, 23,486 views.

  • what camera did you use?

    i have a Nizo 560

  • I only wish there were more pieces like this on here. Super 8 is tailor made for making films like this, and your obviously a masterful exponent of it. Please, keep up the good work.

  • what music is that?

  • nice work

  • oh ym lord. Amazing, and the mousic.. it worked so well.

  • ive been watching this video at least once a week.i just love the way you played with image and sound...it reminds me alot a david cronberg video with a hint of david lynch!

check out my videos man and subscribe if ur interested.

    peace!

  • good work grim dark

  • Truly creepy..and that's good! everything works perfectly to create a disturbing mood.

We would like you to take a look to our works, shot with an HD digital camera.

    Bravissimo, anyway!

  • This movie is amazing man!It has such a david lynch vibe to it but it still stands by it's own...it's truly an amazing work of art.

  • Very good. Reminded me of Jarman's Last of England in places, but that may just be because I don't watch too much experimental film...

  • Wow. You have inspired me!

  • this is wonderful. i tried shooting on super8 for awhile but couldn't afford it.

    feels very organic. nice job.

  • outstanding. it evoked the sense of fear, thrill and suspense to me. nice juxtaposition of shots, music did most of ur job. gud work.

  • omg, what an extraordinary piece of stunning artwork!!

  • That made my vagina hurt

  • that was awesome....

  • I hate it when that happens. You're like, trying to make a phone call, but you're looking at the guy walking around so you keep calling the phones he passes out in the open. Then wammo! An earthquake...

  • Love the feel and look of the film, makes it seem like a classic; long live Super 8 and those that keep this wonderful medium alive. So much good Super 8 equipment is simply being thrown away and being found for pennies in thrift stores. I found a Canon 814 XLS in an L.A. thrift store for $35 a few years ago.

  • this feels more like a darron aronofsky film rather then a david lynch

  • Hello, i was wondering where I could find that background music, or any other sound effects that you used, especially the static. Thank you.

  • the tv sound fx were great. and one of my favorite shots was the one where it seemed like the sun was in focus, but then the camera started following the man... it was just good

  • wow. brilliant. what camera / stock did you use?

  • awesome!

  • almost as good as BEGOTTEN...the BWP should've been on super 8...much freakier and more effective i think

  • cool, muy bueno, bastante alucinante, saludos

  • A liked your film. Good use of the medium, cool Lynchian atmosphere - props.

  • Very nice work.

  • What did you use to edit?

  • It was all done on premiere pro 1.5.

  • -love the eerie atmosphere, the simple powerful images, the rough texture and colour.

  • Very ring like. Nice job with the sepia and soundtrack.

  • I like it... I think. Can't make up my mind. I'd love to see it projected from film. The the edge flicker from transfer is interesting. Is that intentional? If so is the transfer the finished movie or the original film? I have a very different approach to experimental super 8 I'd really appreciate your feedback.

  • tell a story first, dude.

  • would that not defeat the object of an experimental film?

  • where is the nightmare ????

  • The sound closely resembles the background for "The Suffering"...did you use any audio from that game? It's an excellent game.

  • You like David Lynch huh? :)

  • David Lynch has certainly inspired me in terms off what sound in a film can be used for. Hecertainly opened my mind to learning how todrive a film with visuals and sounds as oppose to narrative.

  • there's something off about filming a television with super8 film.

  • off?

  • i made this super 8 film. check me out. come on. check me out.

  • very carefully thought through, nicely made :-)

  • If you like this check out me and my friends super 8 film. All shot on a single cartridge of Tri X or Plus X... cant remember now. No post production... pure filmmaking. KEEP SUPER 8 ALIVE

  • Awesome. I bet you were inspired by David Lynch.

  • did you key images in the tv box?

and how did you digitize your material?

    really nice work... congratulations!

  • Hello, Yes I had to key images in the TV box, as you can see it is obvious because of the gate weave on the s8 film. I get my super 8 films transferred to mini dv by a home cine transfer company as this is much cheaper than a pro telecine and the quality for s8 is really high, many thanks

  • Hey, I really really like your film. I'm working on a Super 8 short myself and I was wondering where exactly it is that you get your transfer done. The transfers I've had done have turned out pretty crummy.

  • howdi, assuming ur in the uk like me, I use Excelsior film and video who have always done a pretty good job as with night call and their cheap as well. type 'excelsior film and video' into google and it is the first listing that comes up. Keep the s8 alive!

  • Awesome!! nice camerawork! Excellent atmosphere!! Well done!!!

  • really nice dreamy feel. i've shot with that russian stock as well, though i can't find it for sale any more and it tended to shred! i've been getting into tr1-x - check out my boatman film...you might appreciate it (shot on the same camera). keep up the good work!

  • congratulations. nice work.,

  • WOAH! don't watch if on dubage... You'll be trippin

  • what camera did you use and at what film speeds?

  • Howdi, Braun Nizo 801 - the standard film speed is 24fps, the faster bits are shot @ 6fps - I also used the autom b function and exposure controls to create some of the effects - I also used an old russian film stock to get the weird look - hope this helps

  • wow!

  • nice atmosphere and soundtrack. well done! keep filming.

  • totally amazing...ace

  • that was fantastic... quite inspirational really, I can't wait till I get my S8mm Camera.

  • awesome, well done

  • very good work...

like the amazing super 8 style...

    go on

  • Im going to say...WOW..this is amazing. just the way the sound compliments the visualas is perfect..you feel like its your own dream almost..mega trippy.

and the creep thing is i had a dream with a similar concept. makes u think humans are all conected in some way.

  • at weekends you can catch all of my friends wandering around old disused places with a camera in hand and a david lynch t-shirt. please list the benifits of digital against film- then go and count yr pennies lol. good stuff mate.

  • Nice and creepy, super 8 always looks good but you used it well.

    All the best!

  • creepy! the sound is very effective... and love the images.. super 8.. awesome

  • Shit dude, I always loved super 8 film works.

    Great job man.

  • Top job Andy, looks the biz. Nothing can touch the look and feel of Super 8.

  • Always love the Super 8 Andy!

  • I can hear that phone when I go to sleep at night.

  • Cool stuff. Liked the setting where you filmed everything. Sound/music was pretty cool too. All the stuff appearing on the TV looked tight too. Nice job!
