Star Anise is a great ingredient for pumpkin pie... It's pretty strong so it needs to be used sparingly.

@CyanideChris oh umm thats bullshit .unfortunatly that lady is resding off of script .she has no idea.fennel,licorice and star anis ,and,anis ,are different plants.they are all used simalarily but have different properties.star is the highest in order[.licorice used extensively in flavorin ] [glycoriza][,fennel used extensively in cookin].fennel is a wild everywere you live weed.thats what you chew for instant nice breath and taste good and healthy .see my vid peacein 2 dayshuge examples.i eat.

@MrHumbolthippy that is a lot of product.maby the licorice [i dont know] is hard to grow or easier and or more of it.i think that each plant is used for diferent porpose because of availibility.i will look up latin and use later for now this is general info because i want to go deeper and dont have time.so anise also is considered a weed and is envasive everywere.looks like grass.not like fennel even though simalar taste smell use ect.star nanise is a tree 70ft tall in asia,

@canascot02 so it is a matter of comerce.how much something cost.they can grow fields of the plants.the star anis u have to import.i think justy like perfume u can get the good stuff or real if u want to pay ,otherwise they use many cheaper things that have some lesser quality.i have not sucessfully grown star anis yet ,few times i tried seeds were not viable.now off to talk about absinth get ready

@canascot02 also anise the grass looks like one thin stem 5-8ft tall with a star shaped head of hundreds of seeds.that also describes many other plants or weeds but that is what it looks like and im describing from my memory.also with anise grass u [ i could be wrong] only use the seeds.fennel is much bigger and taste great all parts are green and taste like wintergreen gum.peace

@canascot02 oh ok ur saying the ingredients to a manufactured products label states that it has both ingredients?if so i would say that it is just trying to impress u with ingredient list and is not necesarry.at same time many foods flavorings ,ect,are to strong and need to be mixed with many things to taste right or original patent for legal rights to make product so they have mre or less ingredients than similar companys product.peace
