The guys who are still around are so busy, it would take a miracle to get them back together -- college professors, surgeons, lawyers. I think Johnny is a vocal coach. Bowser has a troupe of oldies he takes on the road periodically. Several have passed away.
Just think...few years later and Bozwer winds up hosting H-Squares..... Not saying there's nothing wrong with that---just in my opinion a waste of vocal talent.
@Veggieman87 IMO, the best features for Lennie were Put Your Head on my Shoulder, Earth Angel, Blue Moon, Beat of my Heart, and this duet with Donny. Not nearly enough.
This is a great video. To JoeyMars1 who asked about Bobby Rush, the answer is definitely NO! Bobby (not his real name) is a south Florida entertainer who tells people that he was Jocko from Sha Na Na. He is NOT (although he is a great entertainer.) I know the real Jocko and Bobby is not him, nor has Bobby ever had anything to do with Sha Na Na.
I met guy at a fort lauderdale flea market who could sing and he claims to be associated with Sha na na. He said his name is Bobby Rush..If anyone knows of this as being so..I like to know.
@JoeyMars1 no such person on sha na na 's roster's of great talent.don't know who he is or where he's from.but I do know that (BOBBY RUSH IS A FAKE) ok.
What a great group. They all had their own character. I don't think they took it as far as they could have. There were so many of them. These two could really sing. Very competitive for the spotlight.
IF you love SNN as I do you can go to their official website and under LINKS at the bottom is a link to Sha Na Na Fan Pages by Cheryl and then on her site there is a link saying "HELP GET THE SHA NA NA VARIETY SHOW ON DVD!"
Donny kicks butt on this song. I like how they gave all the guys a chance to sing lead sometimes since they were all awesome singers. LOL by the way at 1:58 behind Donny - Bowser to Johnny when someone screws up on the choreography.
Lennie sometimes sits in with a group called The Spellbinders. If you go their site and click on "schedule" you can see when he will be performing with them.
Going to see Johnny Contardo perform in Philly at Benny the Bums (Holiday Inn) on April 20th...it is a Meet and Greet for $75, Johnny spends time with his fans answering questions and socializing...His voice is amazing!
I went crazy for any song Donny sang, since I loved him! Now that I'm listening as an adult, he has a great voice! They were all so good and so much fun!
Lenny had a pretty good voice, regardless. Most of the guys were average singers, except for Johnny Contardo, who was head and shoulders above the rest.
I agree with you about Johnny. He made the longest lasting impression on me (I was 4 when the show debuted). But watching these videos again, there were several good singers in the group. I'm glad faerydancer has brought us these videos to enjoy. Johnny's still my fave though.
GREAT! Just one question though (and if anyone knows, please tell me.) Lennie was singing with Donny, but he's normally the sax player. I heard the sax being played but I didn't see any of the others playing it. Anyone know who was?
That was the way it was when Sha Na Na did the show. They would sing the songs, but have pre-recorded music backing them. Too bad really because they could really play as shown in other concert footages. Great band, great memories, thanks for all the posts. Huge fan, from Canada.
I had the same question, actually. I remember having that question when I saw Lennie singing lead on a song once and playing sax and he didn't get the sax up to his mouth in time, hehe. Thanks for your answer and you are very welcome for the posts. It's a lot of fun putting them up here!
When Lennie sang Mr Bass Man with Bowzer, Donny played the sax.Of course this did not work with What's Your Name as both sang lead. Where are you getting this footage from the TV show? It's great to see over 25 years later!
Jocko Marcellino, "Screamin'" Scott Simon, and Donny York are all still in SNN. What I find aggravatin' is that Jon "Bowzer" Bauman and Johnny Contardo are right there in LA, where SNN is based, and still performing. "Dirty" Dan McBride is in Hollywood, writing and recording for films. Seems like somebody would pull 'em together sometime.
I loved this show as a kid they outta show reruns of this instead of the garbage they DO show
