my boyfriend is a commander in the navy and flew the F-14 in the first gulf war. He now flies he F-18 Super Hornet. He is also an instructor for the F-18. They both have their pluses, but the F-18 not only replaced the F-14, but it can carry external fuel tanks to refuel other planes. The Super Hornet is a multi-functional jet,helping to streamline the military.

FS series is good to fly with airliners, Cessnas, and maybe helis but it doesn't simulate fighters very well. GSC could simulate the F-18 much better in the 10+ years game "Hornet 3.0".

Good or not the game, KBT Team rocked with this addon, just like Kirk Olsson and many others.

why is there a carrier variation of the f-35 if it can do ESTOL? (extreme short take off and landing)

F-35A is for the Air Force- it is meant to replace the F-16 as a multi-role fighter.

F-35B is for the Marine Corps- it is meant to be operated from ships with small flight decks and replace the Harrier (STOVL Variant)

F-35C is for the Navy- it is meant to complement the F/A-18E, F, and G and has a larger wingspan to allow for carrier ops.

The F-35B can take off in 300 feet or less- about the length of a football field (100 yards) using advanced thrust vectoring and the second lift fan.

One other thing...you are one of the first sim pilots I've seen who actually try a clearing turn off the nose of the boat. Not doing it is the fastest way to spot a poser from a current or a retired.

The Northrop engineers did sabotage Irans F-14s. You cant let a crazy country like Iran have such a superb weapon. and the planes havent been upgraded with Russian weapons, they are still just sitting out in the desert. :(

Unfortunately the Northrop engineers did not sabotage the F-14s. American AWACS operators observed an Iranian F-14 shoot down a Russian-built TU-22. Iran has also flown their F-14s in air shows. I'd post a link, but YouTube doesn't allow that. Search F-14 on Wikipedia.

Northrup did nothing to the F-14 because it is a Grumman project long before the marriage to Northrup. The F-14 model sold to Iran was not sabotaged, but it did not have the good avionics package, plus they were a low variant. They flew like F-14's, but they wouldn't have beaten their big brothers in the US inventory. Why would we sell anyone a plane that could?

The F-14 was only kept for the radar, but its too expensive to maintain them because they are so old. The only country still using F-14s is Iran.

Northrop-Grumman ~Did~ sabotage the Iranian F-14s ability to use the Phoenix air to air missle, but just imagine what would happen if some Iranians got the critical components to fire them. The US would have a very bad enemy to go up against. Plus the 14's are being retired because the airframe just can't take much more in terms of modifications, she's just a very worn out bird. It's sad but true.
