Actually they did the math and although Nolan Ryan broke it a long time ago at 100, the measurements for calculating the speed were different (they used to measure the speed 50-55ft off the mound instead of out of the pitchers hand today). After doing the math nowadays you'll find he actually would've thrown it 108 mph using todays radar guns.
If you think Zumaya throws hard there was guy named steve dalkowski who threw around 110 look it up. He is the guy they based Nuke on Bull Durham off of
Dont call me an idiot, and a guy in the minor leagues back in the early 70's was recorded throwing over 110 he would either strike someone out or walk them.
You are a dumb idiot twat, and it happened you are just to lazy to look it up, glad you just think you are a walking encyclopedia, cant throw over 104, ok whatever, go suck a on a flappy donkey dick you waste of space and i pretty much did all of this just to piss you off too, but yes it can be done.
bwolf is right. My uncle is Chuck Hernandez and he told me Zumaya has been known to throw it 105mph-106mph in warm ups for fun. but it's really wild, dangerous cuz he could throw his arm out, and the pitch looks like a mess. Zumaya's world record is 104.6 which is technically faster then 104. the extra .5mph is a big deal. also know that his 104.6mph record is for a pitch. which is 60ft away from the plate. if he threw half that distance he could easily clock in at 106. next time do ur homework!

Yeah, he could clock in at 106...if he was closer :S You just said it yourself. I'm talking from the mound to the plate. It is impossible to throw over 104 from that distance. And are you kidding? .6 miles per hour? Thats still not 105. It cannot be done. Do your homework champ.
he has clocked in at 106 from the plate. It's not a strike or anything close 2 an actual pitch, but he has done it before. Like I said my uncle worked w/ him his first year as a prospect in Detroit. And he said Joel can reach 106. I think Chuck Hernandez is a more credible recourse then u. What scientific proof do u have that says it's humanly impossible? Do you know how dumb u sound when you say that LOL do u know anything about baseball? name 3 active yankees & babe ruth is dead by the way lol
3 active Yankees? You have no idea who you're talking to....I can name 3 active players from every damn team.....hell I can probably name their whole roster. But just to anwser your're question : AJ Burnett, C.C Sabathia, Derek Jeter....and if you say "oh those are only the well known ones!" Ok: Edwar Ramirez, Brian Bruney, Jose Molina, Brett Gardner....So shut up
LOL...... just the fact that you actually answered that tells me not to take you seriously LOL..... go get ready for your jr. prom kid you lose.... gnite... LOL.. sigh.. tsk tsk...
he didnt fucking hurt himself playing guitar hero you retard they just say stupid shit like that because they are doing something that they arent suppose to do and got hurt something like driving a atv or something like that which would breach his contract with the tigers
he isn't the smartest player ever though...i mean i can't believe he played guitar hero, he is a pitcher, uses his hands, why play a video game where you USE YOUR HANDS ALL THE TIME!?! god i hate him for that. thats when his downfall came about...sigh
@ironrushscorp I'm sure that mechanics has like 70% to do with speed but I think its more getting from point A to point B if you look you can see that Tim Lincecum Moves pretty fast to the plate
Only partially. Arm action and build also have a lot to do with it. Tim Lincecum is just a freak. A guy his size shouldn't be able to throw that hard but he's very explosive and has the genes to do it. Some people just have it.
if ya wanna see a fast throwing pitcher and see the throw pop type dellin betances then go to richhernandez profile something like that and click on his pitching video there you see db firsthand pitching

Too bad Zumaya doesn't know what a strike is, or else that 100+ MPH fastball might be worth something.

i can't imagine trying to hit a 100mph fastball. I would have to swing before he starts his windup and i would still be way be way behind.

You're an idiot. The human body is only capable of throwing a object at 104 MPH. A human arm is not capable of anything faster. It's impossible.

He throws 103...yet ever wonder why he's always injured?
103 has the same effects as 99+. No need to over throw for 1 or 2 MPH more.
