hey mbeige, you still got the w123? it looks like my colour but its ivory white, going to the inspection wednesday first time on almost 5 years.. exiting! :)
@coolakiIlen007 US bumpers and US lights are fine so long as you've converted the US lights to H4 E-Code units. When those thin Euro bumpers get dinged at the parking lot you'll wish it had the US bumpers.
@mbeige maybe, just think us looks like old saab 900 bumpers.. ruins fine design. but sure maybe they take dings better but they could at least make them look good.
@08luix Thanks! It's been 4 years since that meet. Only one or two of those are still owned by the same owner since that meet. The green Euro got wrecked, red Euro got sold.
@ Super Jerky Boys, What makes you think that he rebuilt the engine 6 times for 40,000 I just had one die that had 600,000 same engine, never rebuilt. I was the second owner and bought at auction. I drove her across country 5 times last year doing 80 most of the way.. Had I not driven the piss out of her I assure you she would still be on the road racking up many many more miles. Don't under estimate these cars, There is a reason why 75 % are still registered and on the road today.
Well, i would let the US-bumpers and headlights right where they are. Cause the cars look a bit more as an 80's sedan and the US-MB are more special than the European-MB. Otherwise i would re-install all 'european' stuffs (like yellow direction signs, instead of red ones) on US-cars if they were in Germany xD
Hey folks. Why does the red one have differet pumpers than the others? In Europe the rectangular headlamps were reserved for the 280E and later modelyears. Is the red 300D a non-regular import or which modelyear is it??
@saggy22 The red European model is a gray market import. Originally from Europe (hence the smaller bumpers), it was imported as a gray market car. Meaning it went through its own importation process.
The red Euro has been sold to a good home by the owner maybe 2-3 years ago.
W123. The best looking car ever made. Its just beautiful. Its body parts' proportions, ergonomics, durability, reliability, comfort, safety and elegance. The design is just timeless. Superb.
beautiful! what a sight! I have an 82 123. It's mint all over, engine is superb as well-she flys. Only 150k og miles, diesel. Everything's fine on the inside but a little aged=faded. SO-I'd LOVE to have the carpet replaced+the leather+all of the headliners and such. Words...?
Im still driving my 200 Diesel today after 32 years and 2 million km (1,25 million miles) it got out of the factory... true, not the fastest but i wouldn`d change it for 100 plastic cars like they make today. Best diesels ever, mercedes rulezzz
I love Mercs from this period. Elegant and handsome looking from any angle with a presence that no modern car match. I always thought that once they dropped the crome 'blade' bumpers from the mid 80's and changed them to the large 'one piece' plastic ones that we see on cars today they never looked quite so good.
You should use a good primer for plastics since the grille is plastic. If you want use black primer, and leave it as it is, or paint over it with another layer of black. I'm going back to the original color, got tired of the blacked out grille...
nope maybe but the 5 speed is noo way unless i just get on it every day and get lucky i was hoping maybe you knew a source directly from europe next time i go to the middle east i may try to bring back headlights and bumpers if they let me on the plane maybe i'll find a 5 speed there

how did you guys paint your grills? I tried it and the paint fell off.

mbeige 4 years ago
k thanks, what i also did was paint the inside of eurolamps black, gives them a real mean look with the city lights on.
uberaudi1991 4 years ago
Yep, that's a common thing Euro light owners do alongside the "avantegarde" style grille.

you know where i can find a 5 speed setup for my 240d along with bumpers and headlights

arabrockerman 3 years ago
Good luck, it's hard enough to find them, let alone carrying them on the plane.
Any place in the rest of the world should have Euro bumpers, but the 5-speed Getrag unit is hard to find anywhere.
