  • :25 An iphone in a Google commercial??? What is this world coming to!!!

  • Can you recieve pics of attachment through google voice??

  • my google voice page doesnt have a texting option on it. can anyone help me google isnt helping very much

  • I am trying to find the settings menu too? I'm using Foxfire. Do I need to upgrade from the free version, or use a different browser? Rather frustrating. I wouldn't want to give out my Google Voice number and not be able to store the call if I wasn't in GMail or GVoice.

  • Has anyone found the "settings" part? Lol I can't find it!

  • SMS to email

  • I don't see a settings link either. I can't figure-out how to change/edit settings.

  • hmmm, I don't see a settings link. I guess this video is out of date? I'd like to know where to go to turn on that option, since I don't see anything like that under the available settings.

  • It's so disturbing that Google Voice has net rectified the MMS situation! Unfortunately, I didn't research enough before I publicized my Google voice number and so am missing texts. I won't be able to use the number going forward. Very disappointing; Google is usually so fantastic. And I think that they should make it much clearer that you cannot receive MMS texts when you sign up.

  • Don't work in EU... Google stop messing about with android and get this to work worldwide

  • Thank you for sharing Googlevoice

  • Sms to email is great.

  • Good video.

  • Another way to receive incoming texts on Project Phoenix by AOL Mail

  • Question: if someone sends me txt msg to my goolge voice number and gets forwarded to my cell phone, is it free or does it count as a standard txt msg? Thank you for your answers.

  • @shohokuslamdunk It's free if it's going to your google voice number. You don't even need the texting service from your cellphone provider anymore....I had them turn it off and put a block on it.

  • yay google saved me money for free text messages =D

  • MMS not only FAILS but also does not notify either party that it has failed.. Google Voice SMS? Prepare to lose all MMS messages, making this whole service a step backwards.

  • I looked for the google voice mobile app for the iPhone, but there isn't one

  • "You can reply straight from there to save on outgoing SMS fees" (thumbs up so people wont ask this question anymore. (its only free to send SMS's, so your'e going to have to pay the your phone carrier. :) so not such a big deal on that one.

  • Does this mean that I can have free text messages or do I still have to pay my carrier for the service?

  • @meloearth

"You can reply straight from there to save on outgoing SMS fees."

    read info tab...

  • @meloearth

Completely free text messaging. I turned off my texts with my carrier and now save $15.00 a month off the bill.

  • @bahrainiandreams Thank you for answering that for me. I'm still confused about many features. Can you pls tell me if I turn off my paid text service, will I only be able to read and send text messaging via my computer? Will I no longer be able to send via my cell? Thanks again!

  • @meloearth Oh, no absolutely not! That's the great thing about google voice...you can turn off and block the sms/text from your mobile carrier and just use google voice for your text on your phone, all of your text will show up and can be sent from your computer too. You will need to get your google voice account and then pick one of the thousands of google voice numbers they have available for it to work.

  • @bahrainiandreams do you need wifi or any internet connections to send texts using google voice on your phone?

  • @meloearth For instance, I have my regular mobile number given to me by my cell carrierm then I have my google voice number which I picked out of a list to use google voice. Once you get your google voice number just tell everyone you have a new phone number and start using your google voice number...the calls will go to your mobile and people can text that number and you can text anyone form your phone...very easy and cool. Remember to tell your cell provider to block your text when hooked up.

  • @bahrainiandreams Also, if I cancel my text service with Verizon, that means I won't be able to use my cell to take pics and then send them to my email anymore, correct?

  • @meloearth Depending on the type of phone you have, it may or may not be a problem. One limiting feature of google voice is that it doesn't except or send text/pix yet, only words. with my smartphone though I can take pics with my phone and instantly send them to FB, anyone's email, myspace, etc...so it's not an issue.

  • @bahrainiandreams I'm not familiar with smart phones, so here's a question: to be able to send pics to FB, email, etc...you do need to pay for Internet access through your carrier, yes? I already have my Google voice #. Just need to use and get familiar with it, I guess. I do take lots of pics and vid with my basic phone, and send to my email. I'm afraid, from what you said, that I won't be able to do that.

  • @meloearth May I ask what type of phone you use? And yes, you are correct you need web access through your carrier. If you do not currently have web access on your phone and send your pix and vids through your carrier's SMS, then google voice won't be to beneficial for you. To utilize the full benefits of google voice a smart phone (iPhone, Moto Droid, Evo, etc) with web access is best.

  • @bahrainiandreams Sure! I use Nokia 6205. It can be used for Net access but I don't wanna be online 24-7; plus, I am cheap, I wanna send the least amount of money I can to greedy corporations. ;) Right now, without web access I'm able to send pics/vids, as SMS, to FB and other web sites, and to my email.

  • @meloearth :) Ok, I understand. To me, it sounds like for what you want to do, staying with what you have right now is best, since you can't send/receive/pix through google voice yet. I hope I've been able to help....have a good day meloearth!

  • @bahrainiandreams You've been VERY nice and helpful to me, and I thank you! Have a lovely day and week, as well! Peace!

  • @meloearth You're welcome, and you've been very nice as well. Thank you, I'm going to enjoy the week and you do the same...peace!

  • Once the word gets out about Google Voice and all the fantastic features it offers, this is going to kick butt. Plus; it's FREE!!!

  • I can't believe I'm reading complaints and feature requests in the comments on this video. Google Voice kicks SO MUCH ASS and you all need to stop being ungrateful!

  • @gairabad...I work in the retail industry and it is my opinion that people in general are looking for all the FREEBIES they can devour and they don't care if you are in their way and if you are in their way, unfortunately for you, they will mow you down without thinking about the consequences..

  • Oh God yes... after so many years nice sms typing with BIG keyboards..! Not in europe though, ay? _-_

  • I wish I could attach a picture via Email and send it over MMS.

  • an integration of google voice and our email accounts would be nice. the send sms widget in our gmail is not very intuitive . . . need to re enter phone number everytime even though the contact has already been saved

  • Does feature only work on numbers in the US? I have a lot of friends in Taiwan and this would be a huge asset!

  • S/MIME means that Google doesn't get your data... Use S/MIME.

  • swimber07' if you set up your mobile number as a fixed number instead, you will not receive SMS there!

  • can people still call me on my carrier assigned telephone number?

  • Can you guys puullllease roll out a feature where we can send emails to our google voice account. Thank you!

  • If I _forward_ my SMS to my email, why would I still get the original SMS as an SMS? It would seem logical that forwarding would deliver it only to email and _not_ to my SMS. I am getting both messages in my testing, which both come to my PDA, so this is rather redundant. It does get me out of half of the SMS charges from my carrier, but why not get out of all of them?

    -Thanks!

  • @swimber07 That baffled me too for a bit but I found that if you go to "Settings" and then over to "Phones" select your mobile number and click "Edit" and there is an option not to receive SMS on that number.

  • @irishguy9221 makes sense to me. I have a droid phone, and have the google voice application. With the receive sms enabled i receive two notifications everytime a message is sent to my google voice (annoying)

  • My account doesn't have the option to turn on SMS forwarding.

  • If you bring MMS to google voice, I'll change over to my google voice number exclusively. Till then...

  • can people reply to your google number for free or will they have to pay a fee?

  • Completely free, just like a normal text message.

  • thats awesome

now they just need to bring it to Canada!

  • lol indeed. Knowing Google, I'm sure they will expand support soon.
