  • She has no idea about Central and Eastern part of Europe. She ignores processes in most of the countries in the world. It is extreme Americentrism. Why we need to take the most stupid things from USA?

  • Remember that Klein isn't a socialist.

What she opposes is any extreme ideology, whether it is communism or unrestrained capitalism.

  • @DrunkenPoetic Milton NEVER had any extreme ideology. Klein is a fucking idiot that misquoted him while adding words on what he said that he never said. Fuck that stupid whore. The most dishonorable thing ANYONE can do is mislead the young. Friedman was the most humanistic person of his time and more than you and I. The shit that Pinochet did Milton never condoned. He was against using force.

  • @DrunkenPoetic Did Klein Get rid of the Draft? Nope she was sucking her thumb during that time. In a way we all owe credit for our freedom to Milton.

  • @tehatemachine

    She's Canadian...

  • @pcc68 and you assert that I am not aware of her being Canadian?

  • @tehatemachine

Your comment certainly made it seem like you either didn't know she was Canadian. Or you were blaming her for not doing something when she was a baby. Something that as a Canadian she really has nothing to do with. I guess I meant that your comment was pointless.

  • Look at what's going on in Europe now.

    Greece, for example.

There's the shock (the debt crisis, this time).

There's the offers of loans, dependent upon the implementation of neo-liberal reform.

And then there's the complete lack of regard for the resistance to these reforms by the Greek people.

The technocrats have come in and democracy has gone out the window.

  • So hot when She says "its our dystopic future"

  • Message: Write a book, you'll get noticed.

  • The last time that Jews like Naomi Klein created a "decent egalitarian society", over 30 million Christians were killed in the Soviet Union.

We see them once again trying to form their disarmament & enlsavement of non-Jews under the guise of "social fairness" and other horseshit.

    NEVER AGAIN!

  • Thanks for the upload. Naomi tells very well what capitalism is.

First the shock of war or disaster, then the so-called reconstruction. That's always the same strategy. Whether in Baghdad or Afghanistan after the invasion, whether in New Orleans after "Katrina" or after a Tsunami: While people are still paralyzed by the disaster, they get another, this time economic shock treatment after neo-liberal ideas. Existences are destroyed by the sellout to Western companies, and there purest capitalism.

  • @LesMarvelousWhat's known as "capitalism" isn't an "ism", it's merely the natural result of free people engaged in trade with them making the decisions as to whom to buy from and who to avoid.

    There is little compulsion.

"Capitalism" was named by its detractors, the communists.

Ism's are methods of control, such as communism, socialism, Judaism, Catholicism, Hinduism, Zionism, Mohammedism, etc.

You're confusing the dynamic of free trade amongst free people with other coercive ideas.

  • I can't like the remark of @samm1809 (the like buttin isn't working) But here it is thumbs up for you.

  • @Cinnamonbuns13 THIS WOMEN?

  • lmao, i love how the sign says "the ccpa is an independent, non partisan research institute..." when it is so obviously dogmatic and partisan. wow

  • I am not a socialist, infact more capitalists, but it astounds me that as america goes broke, the american public can sit on their asses and not ask why they have a huge debit, who sucked them in to all those cheap mortgages, and which leader let go all those lucrotive contacts to his buddies in iraq and new orleans . .. Your government is forcing your dollar down to a level to compete with china while you, the american public suffer with new austerity measures, just like whats happening in E.U

  • Wow the ignorance of the people that have commented on this video is overwhelming. You can't argue facts and you can't change history. But I'm sure some of you will try.

  • Taken as a whole, this is just a very large load of simplistic, simple-minded bullshit. How anyone gets paid to come up with an entire film so full of it is completely beyond me. Only in Canada.

  • naomi keep dreaming of your socialist utopia. it is totally against human nature and your dream will always fail. i really wish it was different but human nature overrides reason.

  • @davidmaren2000 Hi David, There are countries which are more socialist in their views and are doing well economically. Please look up on youtube "Finland's Education System" as one example where they do education very differently in comparison to North America. They have taken a direct opposite view of the "Waiting for Superman" documentary and they have the 1# education system in the world. As well, look up George Lakoff "Moral Politics" for a different perspective. Very interesting!

  • @davidmaren2000 .. socialism is against human nature is it? So how do you explain volunteer armies of young men & women willing to give up their selfish individuality to protect the national collective? What of sports teams, in which individuals suppress their selfish individualism for the collective good of the "team"?

“human nature overrides reason” – not.

Human nature overrides the absence of reason.

When life is reduced to you OR me rather than you AND me, we're all fucked.

  • @MelioraCogito "So how do you explain volunteer armies of young men & women willing to give up their selfish individuality to protect the national collective?"

I was in the "volunteer Marines" and received good pay, free medical, VA home loans that are still good 24 years after I got out and educational benefits as well.

99% of those in the armed forces aren't there to protect the national collective, they're in it for their self interest.

There is no "volunteerism" in the military.

  • @dgl1962 Every action can be described as being motivated by self-interest, but there is a concept where one action is beneficial to many rather than merely one individual while putting down the rest—such is the case with the structure of the family: a very social unit. You also received "good pay, free medical, [and] VA home loans..." on behalf of the people at large. You basically enlightened yourself for me: socialism does not necessarily mean there is no reward.

  • @Lennybird91 Families are the nucleus of any society, at least they should be, but devious social engineering control freaks seek to undermine them with feminism & liberalism, like Naomi Klein, Betty Friedan, Gloria Steinem, Bella Abzug (notice they all belong to the same tribe that seem to itch at the chance to wreck any established system that deprives them of control over others).

Liberty & voluntary exchange with limited coercive force by the state will bring out the best in a society.

  • @MelioraCogito - Socialism doesnt work/neither does godless Capitalism. U want proper structure in society, w/o the God of the Bible, aint gonna happen, people. We're born in SIN; the only way out of mans greed, selfishness, lust & apathy is a REBIRTH; what the Bible calls, being BORN AGAIN of water & HOLY SPIRIT. Some men have tainted this, as the Gospel calls it - thinking godliness is gain, from such turn away. The problem w/ collectives is, they forget the Power of One, the Value of One. L.

  • Comment removed

  • @Layna8 There can be a balance between individualism and collectivism without need for religious faith. Your reasoning makes the false assumption that your religion is true. Not yet evidential, your point is irrelevant.

  • @Lennybird91 - My dear boy & ur telling me about life & ur how old? First off, if that picture of you, is recent...ur young enough to be my grandchild! So, I think I have a little more wisdom than you have assumed, in ur young life. Second - millions of people have also found, that Faith in Christ is REAL! You can stuff ur religion where the sun don't shine! Jesus calls us to A RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM, NOT A RELIGION OF RULES, though, having Him in your life, makes u WANT to do whats right. L.

  • @Layna8 You make claims to wisdom, but clearly do not understand how to communicate properly. The origin of the reasoning is not what you should be attacking, as suggested by your vague and trite condescension by use of "age." If you've got something worthwhile to tell me, tell me, but don't simply claim you're wise without having wise words to back it up. Believe what you wish, just remember that it's all derived by hope; I only have a problem when you try to "reason" with "faith." Oxymoron.

  • @markoreardon Funny, I thought goverments would send soldiers into wars. Mrs. Klein, does she wants to reduce or increase government power?

  • I wonder if she doesnt have an agenda to confuse people because she seems to be against the corruption but yet she thinks socialism is good,,,what we have now is corporatism and what were going to have is a facist monetary policy and a communist social sys ,,,eutopias dont work we need to get back to tride and true ,,,the constitution get rid of the fed and get rid of big gov

  • I find this womans book very good but why is she pushing the global warming lie,,,the disasters are being caused by the guys reaping the benefits HAARP has alot of good uses,,,we watched them hit the japan fault line for 3 days with haapr myslef and 6 other people and we werent the only ones others posted on blogs as well they took the haarp website down after that,,,they even continued to hit it for 3 days afterward

  • @markoreardon this woman is near braindead retarded

  • spanish subs ? :(

  • Peter Joseph courageously embodies the humanistic / scientific enlightenment of the 21 st century. He has grasped the very inner structrual contradictions of the CAPITALIST/MONETARY system and his revolutionary call for a WORLD OF COOPERATION FOR OUR COMMON NEEDS AND WELL BEING should be the CONSTITUTION OF NEW HUMANI CIVIILISATION. My deepest respect to my brother P.Joseph. in Zetgeist for Venus Project, Time to make history democratically, consciously and globally

  • @arzoyan i understand you want to do good, and i myself was once like you.. but i'd encourage you to look at all aspects instead of the next best alternative..zeitgeist is a blend of lies and half truths. Zeitgeist is new age and the Venus Project's RBE is completely corrupt, you can be corrupt with resources. All i'm saying is think of what your word of 'enlightenment' means..you are illuminated, just don't be misled. don't be a follower be your own leader.

  • @EdgeUHF SHARING THE EARTH IN COOPERATION FOR OUR COMMON NEEDS AND WELL BEING in a moneyless.classless, stateless communities of humanity in harmony within and without. If you doubt majority democratic organisation to achieve the only sane alternative to barbarism of monetary/capitalist tyranny then you are OWNED AND CONTROLLED.

  • @arzoyan rbe is corrupt, see africa

  • Private ownership of yaks is a serious issue to those who have not had that as an option, but have experienced life in some "decent egalitarian society." Wow. Uh. Mocking those who are trying to recover from a brutal Communst dictatorship? Yes, I'm shocked.

  • @MrsWebfoot Especially if you consider, that mongolia was and is a agronomy, highly depending on cattle because of the infertile soils.

  • Private ownership of yaks is a serious issue to those who have not had that as an option, but have experienced life in some "decent egalitarian society."

  • Great stuff well done!

  • Maravilhosa e inteligentíssima, como toda judia!

  • What's wrong with privately owning yaks...?

  • @markoreardon So ignorant.

  • This chick is totally hot. Naughty librarian rawr! Im adding her on facebook.

  • @markoreardon “Universal education is the most corroding and disintegrating poison that liberalism has ever invented for its own destruction.”( Adolf Hitler )

  • What the does she mean by Keynesian bovine? Honestly, it's like she just strings random words together that sound impressive.

  • @markoreardon What the hell are you talking about? Just because I disagree with her I agree with war? How do you come to this conclusion. There are a lot of errors perpetrated by her book, her main one was painting Milton Friedman as a monster. Where in fact his ideas would do way more to create a free and better society than anything Naomi proposes. Which she doesn't. Don't be so absurd with your statements.

  • @TheGrossBuffet Like Friedman's ideas did in Chile under Pinochet? Like they're doing so under the communist bureaucracy in China? Right .

  • @igowaznik Excuse me, it is the liberalization of the markets that are allowing for people to make gains in their independence under these brutal regimes. You must understand that you cannot blame Friedman for the manner in which Pinochet tried to enforce the liberalization of the Chilean market. You cannot remove it from the political context of the time. A coup had just occurred. Generally after a coup like this all dissenters are executed, just look at the communist revolutions.

  • of course she's right. dirty fuel companies and even the u.s. government are planning for global warming and it's subsequent catastrophes. all the while simultaneously denying it and doing nothing to prevent it from happening.

  • Bernie & Klein for 2012 and that will be the real "change" . Utopia! What fun! The feces will hit the oscillators and the sheeple will get off their sagging Chinese sofas to round up a few to do the dirty work.

  • 86 people are doctrinated

  • I just love that woman... such a progressive and eloquent thinker. we need a dozen more just like her. (one just for me!)

  • @Intelectual95 Giving birth to another human being, faking orgasims, caring for their young, emotionally inteligent and, gosh, I can go on and on. Thats also one.

  • @amyntazoe

Emotional intelligence? Lol. Bodily functions? Just shows how little you really have going for you.

  • @Intelectual95 why is she stupid?

  • @emailmeviruses

Because she manipulates data, reinterprets historical facts arbitrarily and doesnt know shit about economics.

  • @Wraith23 Considering we've been watching libertarian free market policies wreck the world's economies over the last 30 years (the only ones left standing are those with "socialist" policies in their mix) I'd say it was the Randian Friedmanites who do all the above and know shit about anything.

  • @Intelectual95

Women very bright usually, but Klein is an ignorant asshole

  • Stupid people on here

  • rarely will you see more dogmatic bullshit than this. Anyone who buys into this claptrap must be lobotomized. I acn't imagine a bigger misapprehension of fact than this delusional idealogue.

  • Dear girl, please focus on stopping Mars' global warming before you try to tackle the larger planets like Earth. Thanks.

  • Naomi Klein for President Of The United States

  • @jakiner Now if you want to see debate about birth certificates...

  • @jakiner Yeah, she'd fit right in with that bunch of statist stooges.

  • @jakiner

    What a clown

  • Capitalism is the wage slavery of immense humanity in a politically corrupt, manipulated MARKET SYSTEM OF ARTIFICIAL SCARCITY ,a tyrannical, destructive system to perpetuate poverty and exploitation in the interest of the ruling class. Capitalism from its mercantile plundering and enslavement of African natives to its Millitaristic rise of European Powers to World wars and Financial serfdom of the world has been a DISASTEROUS imposition

  • @arzoyan Spoken like a true ignoramus. There has never been as much abundance as there is now. Before the rise of western capitalism, people ate one thing like potatoes or grain most of the year. Now, in the middle of winter, I can talk into a grocery store and buy exotic fruits of any kind at low prices. You act like before modern capitalism people werent enslaved to looking for food and shelter to stay alive. No one forces you to work or buy anything. Never knowing true poverty, you cant talk.

  • @martydroo You can for sure stuff your belly with whatever you can afford to..

  • @arzoyan But never has so much been so accessible to so many, thats the point. It's not that the rich or the upper-middle have this new found option, but its readily accessible. I just bought lemons, 3 for $1; some family members remember when lemons were basically $10 a piece unless you lived in a lemon grove, and during the summer/fall they were ultra scarce. The poorest family in the US has hot/cold water at will, indoor plumbing, etc. In Russia we had water pressure 1x day.

  • @martydrooo Obviously SCIENCE and TECHNOLGY the fruit of the painful evolution of our common humanity has created plenty for a market system that if you can offord you shall have. Once we free ourselves from the LIMITS and DISTORTIONS of MARKET SYSTEM the creative and harmonious human cooperation shall take care of all current challenges .

  • @arzoyan No one imposed a market system on society. It was natural to trade. If I became the best berry picker, and you became the best mushroom hunter, we would do that which we excelled at as opposed to doing both in mediocre fashion. I'd then trade you some berries for mushrooms. Thats called market economics. If you wanted berries more than I wanted mushrooms, my berries would be more valuable relative to your mushrooms. Unless, someone offers you a better trade.Don't over-complicate things.

  • @martydrooo You are parroting the dominant ruling ideas of DISTORTION,DEVALUATION and ALIENATION.

  • @arzoyan I'm not parroting anything. I just literally made that up as I typed. It's so basic of an idea you don't need to over complicate anything. You're the one parroting some neo-liberal bull. What or who is being distorted, devalued or alienated in the berry/mushroom analogy? My father came to the US with $170 in his pocket, I couldn't go to college because they could only afford to send my older sister. Still, I'm under 30 and will be worth 8 figures come IPO time. All from ZERO.

  • @martydrooo Whilst your father made it and took care of you and your sister millions were murderd and millions more suffered as a result of US corporate driven foreign policy. My life is one story in millions narration of exile, alienation and devaluation. You need to see the bigger picture and the historic background to any progress or regress. I wish you well and hope your family also lives a life worthy of our common humanity.

  • @arzoyan Believe it or not, US foreign policy is not corporate driven. And for the record, I am about the most anti-war person you will ever meet. Very few corporations actually profit from war. Few than 1/10 of 1% listed on any stock exchange. As far as history goes, I consider myself a history buff and do know the influence few individuals can have on taking a nation to war.I am not happy at all with the poverty on this planet, and contribute to solve it, but please don't bash entrepreneurship

  • @martydrooo For your better understanding of war as a racket check out SMEDLEY BUTLER. However the FOOD INDUSTRY and Pharma Business KILLS MORE than any WAR MACHINE.

  • Ms. Klein attempts to make fun of the yak privatization reforms pushed through by Prime Minister Elbegdorj Tsakhia of Mongolia (based on recommendations from the MACKINAC Center), but her ignorance shines like the sun: this reform was successful in privatizing the Mongolian herd of yaks, which had been declining for decades under government control, and within 2 years saw an increase of nearly 50%.

And yaks are vital to the Mongolian economy, but hey, smug elitism is Klein's specialty.

  • @jarrbear05 Great post. I pay money to see you say that to her and then see her response. I can't imagine how the elitest nut job would say.

  • Everything should be Voluntary, the OPPOSITE of Socialism.

  • @qwertypoiu4321 Real democratic socialism can only mean more voluntary than any state capitalist society, from USA to USSR.

  • @RSFO The US, Mao's China and Hitler are all forms of coercive 'democratic socialism'.

Everything should be Voluntary, the OPPOSITE of Socialism.

  • @qwertypoiu4321 Eeeh, no. Democratic socialism means for instance anarcho-syndicalism like in Spain 1936 or Hungary 1956 of which were revolts against fascist and "Communist" (read: State Capitalist) dictatorships. Of course noone with power will allow that, so they were crushed.

Perhaps you are familiar with George Orwell's 1984? Best book of his is called "Homage to Catalonia". A book that everyone who spouts anything about liberty should read.

  • @RSFO The civil war in Spain was a fight between two forms of slavery: Fascist Socialism vs. "Anarcho-Syndicalist" Socialism. The US, Mao's China and Hitler are some other forms of 'democratic socialism'.

Everything should be Voluntary, the exact opposite of Socialism/Fascism/Slavery/Statism.

  • @qwertypoiu4321 The Spanish Civil war was a fight between democratic socialism and Stalinism and Fascism, where the "liberal democrats" supported the Stalinist Republicans. Read 'Homage to Catalonia' before you spout more ignorance. Then you will know why George Orwell coined the term newspeak. It is not about socialism or any other ism to be one thing, but the reality that words can change meaning.

George Orwell wrote against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism.

  • @qwertypoiu4321 All types of slavery were Price Systems, btw. In Anarcho-Syndicalism or Technocracy(dot)ca there is no Price System. Under the rule of Liberal Democracy, Fascism, Leninism or Feudalism, there be Price Systems.

  • @RSFO Money is something that naturally arises voluntarily since barter does not work. The only qualification for slavery is involuntary servitude, which is what socialism/stalinism/fascism/anarcho-syndicalism/totalitarianism is.

  • @qwertypoiu4321 Read Homage To Catalonia, before you say anything stupid again. Or smoke DMT.

  • @RSFO Every time I explain to so-called "anarcho-syndicalists" that they believe in slavery they tell me again and again to read "Homage To Catalonia". It, of course, does not explain anything. Once again, The only qualification for slavery is involuntary servitude, which is what socialism/stalinism/fascism/anarcho-syndicalism/totalitarianism is. You have no response to that because it is a fact.

  • @qwertypoiu4321 How can you prove that. Show me. What constitutes fact to you? Truly, the only thing I believe in is called fallibilism, the spirit of the scientific method, wherein inquiry is viewed as fallible.

  • @RSFO Slavery is by definition involuntary servitude. There is either coercive ownership of the means of production or voluntary ownership of the means of production. So-called "Anarcho-Syndicalism" is not the voluntary ownership of the means of production so it is slavery, as is socialism/nazism/stalinism/fascism//totalitarianism/maoism/etc.

  • @qwertypoiu4321 = naive and arrogant.

I dont know anyone but uneducated anarcho-libertarians that think this can work. Even to me, (a self absorbed libertarian-existentialist) it is obvious how/why this amount of liberty always leads to tribal warfare. There is not a single example in history of ANY nation where this is false. Besides listening to your daddy's warped interpretation of the founders and watching fox news, what on earth could give you the idea "everything should be voluntary?"

  • @loantom32 "it is obvious how/why this amount of liberty always leads to tribal warfare."

State arbitration is closer to tribal warfare than voluntary arbitration. Everything should be voluntary, the opposite of Socialism/Fascism/Slavery/Militarism.

  • "Shock Therapy" is government intervention so that right there is not a free market. If you want a socialized society take a look at the Euorpean Union oh wait. they are on the brink of a collapse. In USA the most bankrupt state is California which also happens to be the most collectivist state. Whatever you guys do dont bother looking at history or looking at the present keep believing what all Socialists say because you cant trust poeple but you can your government.

  • Anyone who studies history knows that Milton Friedman was a charlaton.

  • milton friedman is an ass. His doctriens and advice are a fail.

  • More about the decay of life you say: Chris Hedges, The Liberal Class & Death of the Liberal Class? on YouTube. If you think government is the problem, you aint seen how private power makes your day oh so much longer and poorer.

  • The whole reason for technology is to make life easier. So how many jobs could easily be automated. What do you do with workers. Well the simple fact is if education was free all the way through college. More people could learn whatever they pleased. They could have that little slip of paper that say they can have a good job. Anyway life should be easier now not harder.

  • The mass murdering Debt Syndicate BANKERS, are slaughtering people and looting their national resources. Climate change IS ALL LIES! Environmental taxes and regulations are used by the same gang of banker felons Naomi is complaining about, to steal everyone’s property and throw everyone off their land.

  • this is what is happening in Ecuador right now, the shock

  • Apparently we shouldn't care about people trying to make a living if it involves yaks; they deserve to starve since they don't raise cattle like we do here in the west. Shame on that Mongolian for looking for alternate ways to help reduce food shortages.

  • Our progressive evolution is dependent upon the collapse of our current society with the opportunity of rebuilding a new world based on sustainable foundation that is in harmony with the planet.. Only with complete transparancy wiil we be able to chart a more viable future for humanity. Quantum physics emphasizes a fundamental truth the" participator creates the world". Once we share the planet as ONE HUMAN COMMUNITY IN COOPERATION can the entire population make history consciously

  • she thinks in terms of left-wing right-wing. she's just your typical idiot that goes "i wanna be political!" and picks a side, just like bush, obama, palin, mccain, clinton, clinton. she's WORSE- she doesn't even TRY to evide her claims. nobody with any thoughtful means would listen to her.

  • this shock doctrine seems to be the new conspiracy theory of the young idiots of today...

  • @rbdgirl12 It's not a conspiracy. The definition of the word conspiracy implies that the law has been broken, and that's exactly the problem. These practices aren't illegal, they're simply void of ethics. Before you criticise, why not learn to understand the meaning of your own words. Idiot!

  • @iirfaithless well please give me a single reason why socialism is ethical. all it does is use the problem as the solution- bowing down to the government. i'm not even an american and i think that the founding fathers of the united states- particularly jefferson- were among the greatest visionaries in human history. their ideas were based simply on human freedom. friedman understood that. klein uses him as a scapegoat, just as the nazis did to the jews.

  • @samm1809 The likes of Friedman are exploitative and objectivist. They impose their models for change in a way that is entirely undemocratic. Why do you think the greatest empires in history are so despised? It's because they believed themselves to be infallible. They're playing God with peoples' lives. Just so you know, I'm not defending socialism. I simply find objective practices to be inhumane. They fail outright to regulate the privileged classes. We may as well go back to feudalism.

  • @iirfaithless that notion of 'privelige' must be based on the fact that people are given something that others aren't. in a capitalist system nothing can be given to anybody without them having to earn it because it would have to be taken from others- the main oposition of any person that actually understand freedom to socialism- by force and without their consent. the problems of society today can all be traced back to either government intervention or opposition to a natural human condition.

  • @samm1809 Typical objective mind, you completely skirt around the issue of Birth privilege. The majority of rich people in the world don't earn it, they're born into it.

  • @iirfaithless pfft don't even bother trying to look down on me, kiddo. you clearly are poorly read so i won't bother arguing with your parents or some famous musician or arrogant older sibling through you. nobody listens to klein unless they're deluded. the rest of us learned from nazi germany and the soviet union.

  • @samm1809 Poor judgement on my part. I thought you might be someone who appreciated a proper debate, but looking at your past posts now I can see that isn't the case. I'm not going to disagree with you, because I know that's how you get your kicks. I'll recommend you some reading instead; Modernity - An Incomplete Project by Jurgen Habermas, Shakespeare's Universal Wolf: Studies in Early Modern Reification by Hugh Grady, Time and the Other by Emmanuel Levinas, History of Madness by Foucault.

  • @iirfaithless what, because i don't want to argue with a fool over youtube who thinks that based on what was said by a JOURNALIST who fails to provide any evidence for her claims and gets most of her information from either failing to understand something correctly or purposely misquoting, a nobel prize winning economist ran around the world taking advantage of national collapses by means of shock therapy? how about i recomend you read some of friedman's work?

  • @iirfaithless actually don't bother. if you're stupid enough to think klein is worth listening to you should be in a special needs facility anyway.

  • @samm1809 Didn't realise you were still at school laddy. Didn't mean to make you cry.

  • Comment removed

  • @iirfaithless Everything speaks of snobbishness, down to your austentacious reference to the left-bank, Marxist obscurantists! The history of Madness was, for me, the most (purposefully) obscure and opaque piece of "social" critique (of madness and civilization) that I have ever read-and I am a professional academic. Your name dropping is not an appeal to reason; it is puerile.

  • @whiff1962 Only an academic would take umbridge to a bit of harmless name-dropping. Look at you pulling the "I am a professional academic" rhetoric. So you're a professional academic? So what? And you say Foucault is obscure and opaque. He is French, for crying out loud; or do they not teach languages at barber college? How's that for snobbishness, you cunt!

  • @iirfaithless I read Foucault in the English translation, although I do happen to be able to read french; as if reading him in the original would make him any more comprehensible. You got your wrist slapped, get over it.

  • @whiff1962 "I do happen to be able to read french" You make me smile. I wasn't suggesting you read the original, but I don't think it deserves your condemnation for being a translated philosophical text. What were you expecting; Wind in the Willows?

  • @iirfaithless It's spelled "umbrage," except in the Harry Potter books. "Umbridge" is a sadistic, lying, totalitarian character who pushes the "Dark Lord's" agenda, and would fit right in with all the fascists who are currently grabbing up everything and planning the day when they can openly enslave everyone outside their elite group. If it weren't so horrifying, it might be fun to see how all the deniers in this country get stomped on by the capitalist-elite fascists when it all hits the fan.

  • @GuinnevereB Haha, my mistake. Perhaps I've been reading too much fiction. As for people getting stomped on by this anarcho-liberal capitalist agenda and shit hitting fans, I think this has largely already happened. The middle-classes are being squeezed and have been for several decades. The gap between the richest and the poorest is slowly emptying. This process has accelerated in recent years because of the banking crisis. Those bankers should have hanged; instead, they're being protected.

  • @iirfaithless Things are pretty bad now, but they're fixin' to get a whole lot worse unless the citizens organize and force the fascists to back off. The banksters should be indicted for bribery of public officials, along with their other crimes, and WHEN they are convicted, they should be jailed for at least 10 years per incident. But any elected official who accepts a bribe is a traitor to his oath of office, and should face a firing squad, IMO.

  • @GuinnevereB Been! The bankers should have been hanged! Any man who steals is subject to the law if they're caught and found guilty. The fact that these bankers weren't properly held to account is bad enough, but we're actually rewarding these criminals. Apparently these fuckers have literally no incentive to do their jobs unless they're promised 7 & 8 figure bonuses annually on top of their ludicrous salaries. These people are scum and they're holding us to ransom. Let them go elsewhere, I say.

  • @iirfaithless Some of them say they'd just leave the US if they had to pay their fair share of taxes, but as you say, LET THEM. I seriously doubt they'd give up the billions they make here; they'd still make a healthy profit even after a 50% tax bill.

  • @GuinnevereB I agree totally. They're bluffing in plain sight. As if any of them would give up guaranteed managerial positions to (a) move to a new country (b) find a new job, and (c) almost definitely get paid much less in salary simply because they forfeited a more senior position. Who would actually want to do that?

  • @whiff1962 Thanks for the tip, by the way. I like you. Chat soon x

  • @iirfaithless u seriously read all those books?

  • @lamujermaslinda I'm afraid so. Need any pointers? Perhaps you'd like to hear about Theadore Adorno's work on the notions of instrumental rationality and how these ideals are remeniscent in attributes of the character Iago in Shakespeare's classic tragedy Othello? My dissertation was entitled; Evil in Discourse. :D

  • @lamujermaslinda did u like major in philosophy or history? i need to find books that will benefit me in the long run

  • @lamujermaslinda I actually majored in theatre studies, but my specialist subject is modernism and this includes a huge amount of philosophy and history. To get a grasp of why attitudes in the west are as they are today I'd recommend starting with utilitarianism (John Stuart Mill, Jeremy Bentham), deontological ethics (Immanuel Kant). To give this some context though you should learn a bit about the demystification of society; the rise of subjectivity and of instrumental rationalism.

  • @lamujermaslinda The bottom line is that at the turn of the twentieth century, the church no longer possessed absolute authority. Morality was a free-agent in a manner of apeaking. Modernity had advanced human progress through invention and industry that modernist thinkers started to believe in a utopian ideal. This way of thinking culminated in Hitler's Final Solution; the instrumentalist execution of genocide and accelerated eugenics. In other words, the lowest depths of human depravity.

  • @iirfaithless how is friedman exploitaive? because klein said so? she paints this rediculous dreamed up image of friedman going around the world starting wars and chaos to use as a basis for instituting his ideas. she's a bullshit artist. the ideas of libertarianism give us an absolute moral ideal that anyone with common sense can agree with on the basis that it doesn not oppose any religious or social ideals, and friedman understood this. he was a very passionate, reasonable man.

  • @samm1809 Have you read any of Klein's work? At no point does she accuse these people of creating disasters. She merely shows how the likes of Friedman exploit these events. He's about taking advantage of peoples' weakness and confusion in times of crisis, and forcing radical changes whether they like it or not. That's exploitative.

  • Capitalism is the wage slavery of immense humanity

  • johnlennon100... dude.. u don't know what u talkin about man.. go write a book to repute her if u think u know something she doesn..

  • The funny thing is that IN America during times of crisis it has been the government that has increased in power and size, not free market liberalism. Think about the Great Depression and how huge Government became after wards.Think Of the Economic crisis in 2008, and How Government stepped in with Health Care reform, bailouts and ownership of certain businesses.

  • Everybody should youtube this video.

    Naomi Klein: Shockingly Ignorant

  • @whitesox889

How come you say she's ignorant? Probably is the opposite ...

  • @JohnLennon100 First of all, it is a video.

Second of all, she fails to understand basic economics

Thirdly, she misrepresents Milton's words and thoughts.

Fourth of all, she cherry picks examples. Their are many examples of free markets being implemented in democratic ways, take 19th and 18th century America and Britain, Eastern Europe and Russia after the fall of communism, for example.

  • @whitesox889 Ok....so, Who do you support? Bush? Greenspan? Obama? the Illuminati? DO you think that the basic point of creating shocking situations is not an effective way of manipulation? Do you think the world we live in is the product of progress? Do you believe in the status quo? DO you think the powers that be want the best for the human race?

  • @JohnLennon100 No. Why do you liberals think that if we don't agree with you, we automatically love Bush and the statos quo?

  • @whitesox889

First I;m not a liberal. Now, I'd like some answers from you. I want to know who do you think says the truth, and how do you explain we have come to this mess in which we are in. IF you think Naomi is wrong then tell me who's right. It's very easy to critizise without being able to know what you're talking about.

  • @JohnLennon100 I think she is wrong about capitalism only being implemented through shock. I gave examples of capitalism being implemented democratically before. A good series of videos to watch would be the "Naomi Klein: Shockingly ignorant" videos. reason.com/archives/2008/09/26/defaming-milton-friedman is a good critique of her book.

  • @JohnLennon100 you want to know how she misrepresents Milton Friedman? The quote which she uses "Only a crisis-actual or perceived-produces real change. When that crisis occurs, the actions that are taken depend on the ideas that are lying around." Basically means that we a recession or depression happens, people change their minds. But she tries to twist it, saying that what he meant by crisis was war and violence. Plus, Milton Friedman was against the Iraq war.

  • @JohnLennon100 I read the passage before I read her book. It was in Milton Friedmans book Capitalism and Freedom (Great book). I was astonished when I saw how she misrepresented what he said. I don't thinks she even read the paragraph, because if she did, she would have been able to tell from the context what he meant.

  • @JohnLennon100 Not only that, she constantly refers to capitalism as disaster capitalism, yet she never tries to explain why she thinks capitalism is a disaster. I find it hilarious that in the examples she uses, capitalism has lead to great growth. Take Iraq for example. In that country, capitalism lead to 7% growth rates. In China, growth rates went over 10%.

  • @JohnLennon100 Plus, she doesn't even know what capitalism is. In Bolivia, the government sold the rights to collected rain water to a corporation. This is NOT free market capitalism. When the government declares that it owns the rain in the sky (In order to sell it) , that is not capitalism, that is big government.

  • @whitesox889 "In Bolivia, the government sold the rights to collected rain water to a corporation. This is NOT free market capitalism." That most certainly WAS free market capitalism in action. The right-wing government in control at the time was in collusion with Bechtel, Inc. In fact, it was Bechtel attempting to privatize Bolivia's water. So you're just dead goddamned wrong. Your heroes in the free market capitalist corporate world were the ones stealing Bolivia's resources. Fuck you.

  • @bapyou

How the fuck does 'control' equate with 'free' in your mind?

  • @JDPatriot Your question doesn't refer to anything in my previous post here. Therefore, your question is unanswerable. Thanks.

  • @whitesox889 Why do you say she fails to understand basic economics?

  • reason.com/archives/2008/09/26/defaming-milton-friedman

  • I think Shock Doctrine only applies to Republicans, as Naomi has been eerily quiet of Obama's unprecedented moves to spend tax dollars in response to perceived threats.

  • Satan in the flesh. And she talks. And people laugh.

  • climate change is not a problem.

    tami flu is a problem.

why does she mention this dangerous product?

why do we not collectively fight pollution of which we have control?

why does she have the mic and yet not join the battlefield to rid our world of GMOs and cosmetic pesticides, insecticides and herbicides? why does she not get on the mic and talk about the silent killer fluoride that is added to our drinking water?
