  • Awesome stuff man! But I got a question. Is it possible to use that many samples when there is only the 0-127 MIDI range?

  • this does not tell me how to layer drums to make them huge. just gives me a way to browse samples. blah.

  • whoa this is a HUGE tip! no need for using an external editor anymore!

  • thisis so true i buy good sample packs and only have to use like a snare processor or kick processor

  • wow loving the tutorials have a question how do you consolidate all snare ,claps etc. so i can have one big folder of snare, one of clap one of kicks etc.

  • Comment removed

  • dude, i have an issue with this, now i cant edit the samples individually, if i make a change to one, like volume attack delay whatever, it changes it for all of them, help?

  • hey great share ive been doing this with racks within racks, which was killing my ram. the sampler seems way smarter!

one question though. how did u get that many samples to have their own space in the chain selector? i thought there was only 0-127

  • Awesome Tutorial ! Keep the good work !:)

  • I hope this is working business-wise for you in terms of Advertisers paying you more for more eyeballs. If not I will send you donations. You are an amazing amazing man.

  • if you have a keyboard you can just drop the samples into a drum ruck and youll have them spread out on the keyboard automatically

  • u can do the same stuff in FL much faster

  • Have you found a similar way to create "pickers" like this for non-percussion, like for example Vengeance's Ultimate Bass library? As tedious as it is going through drum samples looking for the right one, it's 1000 times worse for bass and synth samples.

  • @ElJefe24 Thats why you should be original and just create your own. Synth samples are for NOOBS!!

  • Bro you are awesome, I learned so mush about sampler in these two tutorials thanks....

  • Great time saver. Anyway to achieve similar results with a drum rack (quick sound cycling)?

  • @robmelodic Yup! You drop this Sampler inside a Drum Rack pad and map the selector to a Drum Rack macro.

  • You rock.

    I subscribe.

    Me happy.

  • @victordemise Thanks for watching!

  • This technique saved me so much time going through my massive sample library, thanks Vespers!

  • @monogenous Yeah, no doubt. The time savings on this one are huge.

  • I started doing this after watching this vid, thx saves time, one question. If you drop more than 127 samples in the sampler and distribute equally is there a way to continue scrolling through all the loaded samples (in this vid you had 238)? What I find is after the 127the sample, anything past that line, my midi knob cant access and they arent accessible..thus I create a new rack per every 127 samples..

  • @djbrandonr Yes, that's true. I just delete some and redistribute if I don't find one in the first 127.

  • You are great mate. I've just subscribed to your channel. I'm actually learning alot from you!

  • @ArniieeCDJ Glad to hear. Thanks for subscribing!

  • alright it's really great, but how could i do the same thing, with kontakt4 in cubase?? please post a video on that too

  • @pyroghost11 Sorry mate, but I don't do vids on Cubase or Kontakt. Sampler and Drum Racks rocks Kontakt for usability and intuitiveness IMHO. I'm sure you could find lots of tutorials online though. Cheers!

  • I've been trying to find a 16 knob midi controller strictly for scrolling through samples... rack mountable so it's in reach but not on my desktop.

  • @rushinsteele Yeah, saving space is always a good thing.

  • can you only do this if you have wav files of your samples? My only samples are from

the box version of ableton suite. I've tried clicking and dragging the samples unto sampler but it only wants to make it's own drum rack.

  • @jallstars If you want to convert any samples into a form you can use, just resample them in Live and then drag them into Sampler. Bit of a pain, but it would work. I haven't tried the specific case you mentioned.

  • @jallstars You can use an instrument rack for all of the box samples and scroll in the same way.

  • @GriotSpeak thanks for the advice.. it works somewhat.. unfortunately ableton doesn't let you drag and click mutliple samples when doing this.. better than nothing i guess

  • great tutorial... one question for you:

what you did to be able to scroll through the samples with the knob on your midi controller... is it possible to do the same to warp samples? I want to be able to use knob to move the black bar and set my warp markers

again, epic tutorial this is a truly invaluable habit to develop

  • @skadderbrain Hey mate. Glad you enjoyed the tutorial. For how to map that MIDI knob, watch the tutorial again very carefully. I explain exactly how I do it in the video. If you have trouble, let me know.

As for warping, unfortunately, that is not possible. No MIDI mapping features are available in that area of Live. Cheers!

  • Can you do this with drum loops(or any loops:) in sampler? I am trying to figure out a way to flip through whole loops using this technique, instead of just one shot samples...the problem comes with tempo... Is there any way to lock the tempo of the sample with the master tempo? Sampler is doing everything I want, except it's playing the selected loop at it's original tempo:(

Always loving these new videos Vespers!!! Come to Colorado so I can see you play live!

  • @BillyLongacre Hey Billy. Good question. You can, kind of, do this with complete loops. Take a loop in Arrange view and right click on it. Select "Slice to new MIDI track", use the built in preset and 1/8 or 1/16 slices. Then draw in a single, repeating MIDI note at C3 into a MIDI clip and place a MIDI pitch plugin right before the Drum Rack that is created. Then MIDI map the pitch of the MIDI pitch plugin to have it select the sample from your loop.

  • Also, as for locking the loop tempo, make sure you warp your loop to the master tempo BEFORE dragging it into Sampler, then don't change the master tempo of the set and you'll be rockin. Cheers!

  • @DJVespers Dude! Thanx a bunch, I'm getting some crazy, glitchy, whompy ideas:)

  • @theufoclub Good thought. Kind of. If you drop 128 samples into an Instrument Rack it'll load 128 Simplers though. I'm not sure how much CPU each instance of Simpler takes up, but I expect one instance of Sampler takes up much less CPU than 128 Simplers. This would be a great workaround for someone who doesn't have Sampler though. Cheers!

  • is this the way that Toby Emerson use? (for kick drums)

  • @IINRVII No, Toby doesn't use Ableton, he uses FL Studio. I think he uses audio to make his percussion, not MIDI.

  • Thank You!!!!!

  • great to hear someone who knows what they r talking about. great job.

  • @deeroks1 Thanks mate.

  • Thank you! :D

  • i've been doing this kind of thing in Linplug RM-V. It's awesome because you can audition different percussion in the mix so you can keep on clicking until you get the right one! Thanks for another useful tutorial!

  • @revillsimon Ah, nice one! Never used the RM-V. Sweet feature. Cheers!

  • good one

  • @lordtoranaga Thanks!

  • thank you vespers!

  • @cardiophonie You're very welcome. Thanks for watching.

  • best tutorial ever

  • @oele Thanks mate.

  • why drop 238 samples onto Sampler when it can only play 128? 'distribute ranges equally' in this instance would cause 110 samples to be bunched up on the 127 value

  • @jambonmama Yeah, true, but if you scroll through the first ones and don't find one you like you can just delete and redistribute without having to reload more samples.

  • I am wondering the same thing .. You didnt mention that the sampler can ony hold 128 values

  • @Peloneishion Thanks mate!

  • man, this is a total revelation, I never really understood the multisample mode but this has made it so obvious. You totally deserve that certified label for making these tutorials Vespers. Thx a million!

  • @MisterSuperb Much appreciated. Thanks for stopping by the channel.

  • when u said that all the samples would play at the same time I imagined 238 kicks playing at the same time so I turned down the volume a bit. Great tutorials Vespers keep up the good work!

  • @curtisstearn That would be loud indeed. Cheers!

  • nice !! great tutorial.

  • @remi2611 Glad you dig it.

  • That's very handy, thank you for the video!! They really help me learning Ableton better.

I've got a question though - can you make a tutorial on how to create your own kickdrum from scratch and making it sound decent? Or maybe a very in-depth kickdrum tutorial? I can't seem to get them sounding so professional.

Once again, thank you for these tutorials :)

  • @RecklessNL21 Thanks mate. I'll keep that kick drum one in mind for future vids. Cheers!

  • @DJVespers +1 for a kick tutorial, always looking for new ways of making them :)

  • @SparkySubie Noted, thanks mate!

  • great tutorial as always

  • @TheSpambomber Thanks for watching!
