Unfortunately there are major balance issues here. The choir is much too soft. This is the high point of the Requiem, and it just lacks the power. The ending also seemed restrained (perhaps because of the balance issues) and underwhelming.

This is a very intimate and at the same time passionate performance. All too often people us massive forces for something like this and it just loud and muddy. I am guessing this is not a large choir or venue. The diction is excellent, as is the phrasing; I can understand nearly every word and the energy is really spectacular.

While Brahms didn't write a traditional Requiem, the opening of this part sounds to me like his "Dies irae".
