To a degree you are right that record companies and media companies are owned by the same people and can definitely "make" stars, but promotion can only get you so far and doesn't always translate into sales. It's usually the producers who do the heavy lifting in making a pop song successful. I acquired the laserdisc version a few days ago. This is my first intro to Madonna concert video. I was so absolutely blown away by her performance.
I like some of her future performances but THEY ALL fall short of this (2nd tour onwards)
In this tour, she shows the strongest energy, authenticity and enthusiasm. She also looked her best!
