I think the strogg were created either by an alien (as has been assumed) or a human who invented the technology, and willingly or unwillingly made it become aware, thus probably killing its original maker and taking over the technology completely. Knowing all pure organic lifeforms are obsolete, it decided to rebel.. kinda like the terminator story.. but alot more violent :P
