  • I love that Paul wrote this song. Gene's over-the-top performance of it represents the best of what KISS is.

  • What's that distorted line thing at the bottom of the screen that goes across. My dvd has the same thing, do some of the older copies have it there. Can't remember seeing it in the old video copy, any ideas ?

  • Pure KABUKI Theatre! Brilliant!

  • Without Gene, there's no KISS. If you like KISS, then why criticize? I love this band more and more every day.

  • KISS and AC/DC are the best damned groups to come out of the 70's!!!!

  • @mahoot81

    My Two FAVES!

  • Who in the KISS Army back then would have guessed that Gene was such a turd that is only out to make money off of his fans? KISS should have called it good on the "Farewell Tour" and left their legacy intact. Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer in the Ace and Peter make-up? What a fucking joke...

  • @resqfireman1 I agree. I find it harder than ever to hear past Gene's greed.

  • @resqfireman1 As much as I love KISS and despite the egos that've been and are, still, involved, I REALLY wish or hope KISS will retire! Why? Gene and Paul's voices are GONE and their music is (just) TOO SLOW! I hope, JUST HOPE, that they WILL retire, VERY SOON, before I, actually, end up HATING THEM! Me, hating KISS? I don't like THAT thought, AT ALL-especially when KISS was the band that got me into rock/metal!

  • I like this.

    この曲は今でも大好きだ。

  • Gene gets a bass solo,

    Ace gets a guitar solo,

    Peter gets a drum solo,

but Paul wrote the damn thing and doesn't even get a spotlight on him.

  • @TunaMloohnahz Writing the song is more spotlight than all the others had combined.

  • the ORIGINAL DEATH METAL VOICE!!!!!!!!!

  • This is KISS, especially Peter, at their best.

  • i love kiss 萬歲

  • !! Very Nice !!

  • 1977? with those clothes? ... i thought that gene was wearing the lovegun clothes in 1977 ... its ilogical...

  • @FelipelovesKISS It's the Rock and roll over tour idiot!!!

  • I saw this show at the Tarrant County Convention Center. Bob Seger was the warm up band, with "Night Moves" fresh out. This was the first concert that cost 10 bucks! KISS had all these huge gauzie-flashbulb looking things hanging from the ceiling, and when the Dual Cannons went off, the Giant Flashbulbs shot off, and every person in the arena was blind for maybe 30 seconds. AWESOME!

  • He's not Neal Peart, but a pretty good drum solo

  • only sober person in that place is Gene.

  • Love the Destroyer outfits with the Love Gun set.

  • now that ladies and gentlemen, is a drum solo

  • FOCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Best version ever

  • the real thing is,like it goes on the lyrics...'the spell you re under will slowly rob you of your virgin soul....'' The demons 's taking over and people are too blind too see

  • nice drum solo

  • Gene reached some high notes at 8:12 to 8:14

  • @rodrigomaluquinho If you really want to hear Gene hit some highs look up Take Me live where he does falseto backing vocals!

  • ジーンは神の中の神です

  • 13 people didn't hear his words and take heed.

  • I like Ace's solo

  • damn!! catman's drum solo sounds great!! :D and great song, best song sang by gene!!!

  • they should slow it down a bit

  • Gene may be the God of Thunder, but Ace needs to strike down 12 people with lightning!

  • i met peter criss in a hotell ons 191978

  • I was 15 when i seen KISS back in 1980 (Sydney Australia)...what a great time to have been a kid.

  • This Fucking Rules, great quality ...

  • i love that, this is real music, not lady gaga or some 'singers', Long Life KISS \m/

  • great band,the real Kiss

  • the catman's best solo

  • so the catman DOES have balls!

  • Now that's the Peter Criss we all know and love.

    Great drum solo Catman (3)

  • gene simmons solo

  • now tell me where's the real kiss? here, or with two guys tryin' to play as peter and ace?

  • kiss at their original best!

  • i hate when someone in my class comes to my and sais Kiss sucks!! and then i have to say FUCK U!!!!!! even though it,s my best friend i punch him in the face !!

  • @norwaydude6 Good job or More power to you! When someone tells ME a band that I enjoy "sucks," I tell them, "Oh yeah? YOU SWALLOW!" What bands does your best friend listen to?

  • Saw them 2 times WAY back in the day. Mom declined her first (and last?) joint in the stands while escorting Sis, hahahahaha

  • there was Yoshiki =))

  • @unfinished93 Hide too =P

  • my dear old superheroes...

  • I saw them on this tour at the Mid South Colosseum in Memphis Tennessee. I still have the ticket stub in a scrap book.

  • @Wonderfulness You saw Kiss in 1977?! Sure wish I knew about Kiss in '77 seen them in concert (I was too young, back then. I was only 7!)! Who opened for them-or did Kiss open for someone?

  • @AngelofAnguish By 1977 KISS no longer opened for ANYONE.

  • DUDE!!! They didn't change their costumes RIGHT at the beginning/end of the year!!!! They carried it over for some time!!! JEEZ!!!

  • I won't accept anything less!!!

    1977-1987

  • reunited members of kiss and black sabbath together would be the most kickass tour

  • i fucking love it

  • This had to be in 1976,Kiss is wearing their Destroyer costumes.

  • @acesobrian yes, they may be wearing their 'Destroyer' era gear. but KISS was in Japan in this video and they 1st went there in 1977. 'Love Gun' wasn't out at the time, hence the 'Destroyer' outfits.

  • @acesobrian They used the Destroyer costumes on the Rock And Roll Over Tour aswell.

  • YOU SITTING HERE READING WHAT OTHERS LEFT I GOT TO THHINK TO MYSELF WHAT HAS THIS WORLD COME TO WHEN OTHER TRY TO CONTROL WHAT OTHERS THINK OR LIKE as far as i see it if you like it fine if not that is fine also but why force what you feel onto others there is such a thing as free choice to like or dislike as one chooses now with that said is it so hard to just like what you like and to let others like what they like come on people my six yo acts better then this is 1st grade bullshit

  • this is kiss no tommy or eric singer putting on somones face paint this is the original.i refuse to see kiss without ace and peter.

  • @zeldagana ur a fool.......peter is too old, & ace is not reliable.... remember them in their prime!

  • @flexxman1964

I have no problem with replacements But i agree they should not be wearing someone elses FACE

  • @mdwo01 It's Obvious that U don't know anything about Business....it's a trademark, it's well known, why would they change it to please a few fans?? rock & roll is a business, run by businessmen.....

  • @mdwo01 If U know your KISSTORY, ace & peters design was Bought out by KISS, they no longer have rights to them, but like i said before, those designs are well known around the world, & business wise make sense to keep using them, You would have to be in the business to understand... peace

  • And now Gene has a shitty staged t.v. show with his idiot kids, what a shame.

And there use to be a debate about who was the better band KISS or Led Zeppelin, LOL!!!!!!

  • @dinkydao Please tell me your joking Kiss or Zeppelin ! I mean i like Kiss but only in a non serious complete joke kinda of way ! Zeppelin are a truly great band not cartoon characters like Kiss. Even Kiss would laugh at your comment.

  • @dylan14is14 As much as it sickens me I have to tell you that I am in fact not kidding, in the late 70's it was always debated. All the old metal magazines use to run covers with "Kiss Vs Zeppelin". Of course that was before Kiss "removed the makeup" and got even shittier (and then put it back on of course). Also, Ace Frehley was still with the band at the time.

  • hairy dudes playing warmed-over chuck berry riffs.

there's a sucker born every minute.

  • the biginning waz AWESOME!!!! great blood spitting Gene!!

  • KISS RULES!!!

  • all the people who think KISS aren't good, are shit or other stupid comments is because they don't know this fucking awesome song

  • Gene Simmons solo

  • @GOORVY Too bad they aren't doing THIS song on their 2011 tour-instead they'll perform I Love It Loud.

  • @GOORVY look up a band called i killed everyone

    thats real music

  • @GOORVY Death did it better.

  • @GOORVY If Metallica HADN'T "sold out" via the Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters, and their GOD-AWFUL "make-overs," they'd, STILL, BE my favorite band, today! FORTUNATELY, the other band "stirring-up a hornet's nest," in 1995-96, was the ORIGINAL KISS reuniting! The ORIGINAL KISS, NOT TODAY'S KISS (Lord help them!), but the ORIGINAL KISS, are my FAVORITE band!

  • best version

  • Fucking amazing. They really were, for a time, the Hottest Band in the Land.

  • Musta!!!

  • Damn listen to Genes voice back then compared to now!Age is a fucked up thing!

  • back in the days when they had their real hair and you could still call them a band lol =)

I reckon after alive everything started going down hill

  • In my opinion, Japan must've been FLOORED when KISS came to town! Unfortunately, when KISS DID tour Japan for the first time, audiences were "relaxed/calm and laid back." In other words, they weren't "wild, crazy, and rebellious" like today's Japanese audience.

  • OMG how long is his drum solo!!! I love this guy!!!

  • his hair was messed up then tooi

  • This sounds exactly like the Alice 2 recording.

  • this was just like yesterday

  • damn oh damn, 2010 this is awesome, 1977 it must have been everything beyond, the beat is so timeless and though much sounds similar today this is the original.

  • Gene=beast!

  • magic just magic old school of rock

  • yeeah the KISS that we all love!

this live version is so awesome but nothing like the live version of 100,000 years

  • peter was better drummer back then

  • now this is the KISS that I know and love.

  • The Japanese woulda just loved this kinda shit, wouldn't they? It was phenomenal at the time. I was obsessed by these guys back then.

  • 1977 was the year for the band...every one in the band were on cue very few messups and were just totally awesome ..2 years later everything started going south

  • This is from Rock and roll over tour. It's on Kissology 1

  • and i dont have to say what year it is KISS fans know already

  • easy arguement to solve fellas. lmao what year did they first visit japan

  • Yeah it is defiantly 77 because gene didn't fly here.

  • Comment removed

  • How I wish Gene could still sing like this. He sounds like shit these days.

  • and you will sound like in 33 years?? with less than half the stuff, simmons did.. nugget

  • @stud007ful back in the day gene was not only a better vocalist but a better bass player as well

  • I love the pace of this version of GoT. The same song from the 1980 Aussie show is fast-paced an awesome as well!

  • THE most kickass performance of god of thunder kiss ever did in their entire history. really well-filmed too!

  • It's '77, look at Peter's drum kit.

In 1997 he used a smaller black kit with clear pinstripe heads.

  • @demonspeedng22 wow you guys are morons. This is 1997 on their reunion tour. Gene did not have this costume in 77and look at the quality of the video and how old these guys are.

  • demonspeedng22 is completely right, this is 1977. the drum kit gives it away.

  • ITs not the drum kit that gives it away. Look at the stage. They did not have the lighted stair case in 1997. OMG I must be that much older than you. LOL

  • @darkhorse226

You're right, bro. For you doubters, also look at the lights above the stage: they're just regular cans with gels over them no LEDs or any halogen units being used today...or since the early 90s even!

  • this is not from 1997. Trust me. This was filmed in 1977 for a show they were airing on cable.

  • I agree with you, everything is so 70s, just like in the Alive II record!

  • get the KISSOLOGY Series, this show is part of that collection.

  • Thanks.

  • Comment removed

  • Um it is1977 because iv got kissology and this is on it, dont think ya know everything

  • @demonspeedng22: It´s actually 1977, check Gene´s boot scales, Paul´s Gibson Flying V, Peter´s drum set, Gene´s bass. And they actually look a lot younger and fitter than during the reunion tour. The quality of the video is higher than the average KISS 70´s footage, but then again this is the classic Alive II stage and Gene did have that costume.

  • @rudolphhess1488: It´s 1977, Gene got that costume in 1976, check the Alive II booklet. Besides check Gene´s bass, Paul´s Gibson Flying V, Peter´s drum set, Gene´s boot scales, the microphone and bass cables. Plus they look fitter and rock a lot harder than during the reunion tour. The footage has a lot more quality but it´s 1977.

  • I can't believe people are deliberating over whether this was '77 or '97. Look how lean and tight they were! In the 90's (and now), Kiss were much puffier.

  • @emidore

I will end your debate. 1977. I was at this concert. I was 16 at the time.

  • its 77 beacuse ace is still with them

  • you sure this was '77 and not '97?

  • It is '77

  • this is VERY much 1977.

  • You're right. I didn't watch it all the way through before I posted my comment, but once I got into the song, I realized I was wrong.

  • And Ace rooooocks!

  • I LOVE THE SONG KEEP ON ROCKING GENE

  • Truer gods of rock and roll never existed. KISS was/is the best ever!!!!

  • They should have just left the live recordings for alive 2 just as they were. This stuff is amazing! Why did they have to record over it?

  • I know!

What`s the point by overdub everything?!

Well some mistakes... but it`s ALIVE!

  • @MarshallDawn that's because of eddie kramer..remember the shitty Hendrix recordings? well..work of kramer.. did the same with kiss.. alive 2 sounds like crap..

  • Take it, Church Lady (drum solo).

  • everyones like "oh no peter criss cant play for kiss: he's a jazz drummer!" SHUT UP He was a great drummer! oK technicaly Eric Carr was a better drummer but peter criss was awesome Oh And eric singer isnt that great OK?

  • what do mean eric singer isn't great he's way better than peter ever thought being!!!!

  • technicaly he was good like he was fast and stuff but peter had style

  • peter and both erics have different styles you cant compare them

  • Drum solos kind of bore me, but I've always liked Peter Criss solos.

  • kiss arrebenta!!!

  • It's Budokan and it is in Tokyo.

  • This brings back some memories. I was at this concert. I was in high school then.

  • were is bokudan

  • That's a helluva workout on that drum solo. I wonder if the 'Church Lady' could do that.

  • the first half of that drum solo sounds just like iron butterfly's in-a-gadda-da-vida drum solo.

  • Hahahaha! True

  • this is the real kiss

  • @hershysquirts187 Yes! 1973-1980 they where real Kiss

  • From :13 - :15, looks like Gene had his supper.

  • awesome

  • Rock It PETER!

  • Peter Criss is an old school dummer. By this I mean he comes from the era where the drummer tries to make each section of a song "musical". Drummers from that era had more variety in their playing at tried to make each section of a song have a certain feel. I realy think that comes from playing live. Having to make "the music" sound and feel good in a performance. Mutch more swanky and "groovey". Eric Martin is really good, but a very static player. He's a drum machine-type-player.

  • Absolutely. Peter Criss is, by training and inclination, a jazz drummer. He tends to play slightly behind the beat, as many jazz drummers do. It gives the music a laid back feel. Unfortunately that isn't what KISS needed.

I saw KISS at the Omni in Atlanta in 1977 and was completely blown away. And even though I'm a guitar player I was in awe of Peter Criss's drumming. I realized later, though, that being a great drummer and being a great hard rock drummer are different things.

  • I agree. According to Gene, him and Paul were looking for drummers and they saw an ad that said "drummer willing to do anything to make it (in show business)." They said, "That's our guy!" Unfortunately, in my opinion, as far as "wanting to put a 'heavy rock' or 'metal' band together," I DON'T THINK Gene and Paul REALLY WANTED, like you said a "jazz drummer." But, due to Peter's ad, they hired him. I, even, learned that Peter's late 70s solo effort was a "flop"-to an extent.

  • @AngelofAnguish that drum solo a flop? every kid air drummed that solo back in the day and every 80's drummer with a massive drum set got the idea from Peter Criss. Believe it or not he was a HUGE influence on drummers. Like Ace he wasn't the best or most technical but they played licks and beats you hum in your sleep. I can't say either of the Erics influenced anyone. Eric Carr was as much as an influence to drummers as Bruce Kulick was to guitarist.

  • @headlesssoldier He's trained as a Jazz drummer. He plays a lot of jazz style lines blended with a little rock and roll. He's distinct like that.

  • Peter impressed me here---modest technique,(Mostly just syncopated 16th rhythms)but great dynamics, and good flow in the solo! And he used that flanger rhythm in a very clever way as well. Good job Peter. You pulled it off.

  • Peter Criss is the best drummer KISS has ever had.

  • is it just me or did they always save their best performances for japan?
