as for the gorgeous slow movement, which is the best thing about this piece- -i'd say Rostroprovich has the edge...a more generous feel to it. But i'd like to have a go blind folded...what do others think?

That yo yo ma overwhelms sophie. In another version, he played the violin part at one point!

On another point: I wish someone would compare this largo to the one played by the Russians under a younger Karajan.

The Largo in this Triple Concerto is, one of the most beautiful in all of classical music. I will never forget the first time I heard it, It brought me to tears back then. Herbert von Karajan is an outstanding conductor and is quite able to bring the best out of any violinist. My two favourites are Gidon Kremer and Shlomo Mintz, I have Mintz doing the Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64 on another channel.

Il primo Tempo è una delle meraviglie in assoluto di Beethoven, ed è piena di spunti creativi sviluppati molti anni dopo da Schumann e Brahms. Gli interpreti sono quattro teste diverse, ognuna pensa e interpreta col proprio stile personale. Mark Zeltser è sicuramente quello che vale meno. La Mutter è una brava e disciplinata vincitrice di concorsi, Karajan e Yo Yo Ma sono quelli che alzano la media e trascinano (quasi) l'orchestra e gli altri due ... ma una bella incisione per quel periodo !!

Grazie per il tuo commento. So che questa è una vecchia versione di questo concerto, ma, non ho trovato uno migliore da quando è stato rilasciato. Ho goduto anni Yo Yo Ma o molti. Io so di più violinisti eccezionale di Anne Sophie Mutter - il mio preferito è Gidon Kremer. Mi sarebbe piaciuto sentire Ivo Pogorelich. Ma questi sogni sono poche e costano troppo per essere realizzato. Tuttavia, questo rimane ancora un interpretazione superlativa di questo Concerto.

@cpbuchanan54 Yeah, it makes it so one can go to bed at night with the Concerto playing - and actually being able to go to sleep. Of course, these days, if you have a "repeat" feature on your CD player, you might be fortunate enough to wake up in the morning to the soothing strains of that same Concerto, perhaps after having had a few sweet dreams in between.

Yes, trying to watch 10 or 15 minute segments of a Concerto or a Symphony in this digitial age is ludicrous. It kind of takes one back to the days of vinyl, when at the most enjoyable time in the concert, one had to get up and turn over the record. It is annoying and detracts from the mood. However, YouTube removed my extended minutes per video for my troubles. I thought that was a rather childish move, actually!
