Man, when we played Medusa, we were in our glory days as a marching band. (: I played everything in the pit -- those mallet runs were so much fun! But I gotta give props to the quints players, that music was hard as hell
I am in the Naperville North Marching Band, and I can honestly say this is some serious marching. The difficult drill and music looks effortless. Its clear the Buchanan Marching Band worked hard to clean this show, with an outstanding outcome. I am stunned. This is so cool, keep up the good work!
Wasn't sure if you noticed... but the band dropped their numbers by OVER HALF because the woodwinds (all flutes, clarinets, and saxophones) grabbed flags and joined the colorguard for the last sets; so all you hear is brass and percussion. ;-)
Do you know how people try to persuad themselves "not to fall" or something, and they concentrate so much on it that it hurts their concentration and they end up falling??
A show... a performance is the same thing. Morale of the group needs to be high in order for the audience or judges to feel what you're trying to bring to life. If you all think it sucks, then everybody will see it. It's a great show... just have fun with it and do all you can to bring it a trophy. ;-)
Trombone player- my Huntley High School Marching Red Raiders are playing this this year, we just started but i can already tell iz gonna be BEAST P.S. band director Mr. N Konwerski
@dlrico It sure did... We got 1st place for our class in two competitions, 2nd place in two others, and Grand Champion in one (on a slight technicality though) and 9 caption awards. This was pretty much the first time our band ever won anything. It was a great show indeed. watch?v=aYqDnYRHGJI
Sweet!!! An, hey, if you need a "Medusa"-experienced drumline tech, let me know. I hate viewing our originally performed pieces butchered because they had to cut out a lot of parts.... ... I'll get your drumline ROCKIN! lol
The solo during the ballad was actually performed on the piccolo.
Horn/sax player, eh?? Man... I can't seem to remember who this could be. I was gonna say Jerry P, but I know that's wrong. Damn, I'm totally drawing a blank.
I'm part of a little Indiana band and we did medusa also, but in indiana time restrictions are lowered so we had to cut out alot of the cooler parts but it was still a good show, here it is "TRI WEST 10-04-08" if you'd like to watch it. oh and also coment please i mean it's from our 3rd comp. in that season but i feel it was pretty good for that early, and at the end of the quints solo it's different 'cause we did triple scrapes instead of diddles down the drums. just wanted to clear that up.
AAA...they are AAA....so is Kingsburg in which I preform as a clarinet.....eeek we suck....at merced this year we somehow got first in our group but not sweepstakes...
Beautiful! I've always wondered who recorded those amazing samples on the Key Poulan site! We're doing this show, but we aren't nearly this good, sadly. ):
Wish your colorguard was a bit better, though.. with a band like that, you need a top notch guard to match!
My high school played this show back in 2003. I wasn't in the band that year, but Medusa is still my favorite show of all time. It sounds like the recording on Key Poulan's website is from this performance. Is that right?
i believe so, a lot poulan's recording in which bhs played that year was recorded by bhs themselves, i'm not sure if it's this exact performance or not though.
Yes, it is. Meduse, The Rise and Fall of Rome, Pandora's Box, and In the Shadow of Dragons are all originally recorded by us. And, yes, they were recorded live from the championship field :-D
I do have a recording of it live, but the camera that it's on doesn't output sound for some reason. I'd have to get it fixed.
I wasn't able to see the GSTOB this year, but CW has always been a power house (well... not during the 3 years I was in Buchanan. lol). BHS is climbing back up on the ratings though. I'm sure they'll surpass them in finals (hopefully)

Awesome!! Good luck with those mallet runs in the 4th movement. I remember it took our pit quite a while to get them clean and up to tempo. lol
Hope the show is as successful for your group as it was for ours! :-D

Awesome show!!
My high school is considering doing this as our show for next year; I'm a flute player so I'm gonna fight to the death for that solo!

Cool, thanks for the offer!
I thought the flute solo sounded a bit like a piccolo. :)
Our show last year was Heartbeat (also by Key Poulan)
Type in Maize Marching Eagles Neewollah 2008 in the search box and listen to our show, it's not as difficult as Medusa, but still very cool.

yeah it's jerry p =)

Do you know if anyone still has the 1st trombone part for this piece?
EBLOCKDUDE 3 years ago
Hmmm... not sure. I'm still in contact with many of the players. I still have all my music from that year (lol).
I'll see what I can get from them... if any

I still get chills myself. It sounds so professionally done that it's hard to believe this sound came from a high school!
Then... the last 45 seconds of the piece... it's all drums and brass!!! One word: POWERFUL!!
