The acting is incredible - did this Hitler actor get an oscar? Such a powerful emotional performance! Even in the parodies of this the acting comes across. I would really love to see this film
The actor delivers an excellent performance throughout the whole movie. Easily one of the best WW2 movies I've come across, very intense. I highly recommend watching the whole movie. I'm pretty sure that it's still on Youtube in its entirety. Search for Downfall (aka Der Untergang) and hopefully should still be easy to find.. (If it's no longer available then I will probably end up uploading it again)
@RightWingRiot I just looked it up on IMDB- Bruno Ganz (Hitler) Won the 2005 Bavarian Film Award for Best Actor, was nominated for three others, Won ALFS Actor of the Year award in 2006, and won the Special Jury Award for Best performance by an actor in an international film in 2005.
I'm an actor myself and I can tell you that I am obsessed with this movie because of Ganz's acting magnificent acting calibre. I watch the youtube videos almost all the time.
@LiteracyLabyrinth unfortunately not, politics played a huge role in the decision. They did not want to give an actor who portrayed hitler an oscar because that would make it appear like they were supporting nazism.
Germans did usually call it the Fatherland. Hitler, rather conspicuously chose to call it the Motherland instead. Freud has a whole psychoanalysis of him explaining why he chose to do so.
