How anyone can think this great cover of Stardust 'sucks' just boggles the mind. Nelson's take is one of the most soulful versions of this great song I've ever heard ... and I've heard maybe 50-60 covers of Stardust in my life.
Nat King Cole and his daughter are actually among the few who've sung it with the intro, and frankly I think Nat's version comes off a bit stiff and overly-mannered in comparison with what Willie Nelson does with it. And I am a huge fan of Nat King Cole.
well, i think this sucks. he doesn't even sing the first part of the song. so its basically a dumbed down version which does not do justice to the original. i like willie but this ... is pretty close to a travesty. if you want to hear the song done properly, i would suggest you listen to the nat king cole version.
river58dale... fyi.. Can you read? I never said he wrote it. I said he recorded it. Read it. I said it was his renditions of the Classics. I can't believe I'm even typing this for you. "recorded Stardust"... not "wrote Stardust" Are you simple?
To me Willie is a true treasure, real gold. We are all lucky to have heard him and maybe we saw him in concert, and it lives with you forever. God bless him, he is a true gem. Michele
Timeless , yep. . I see kids pyling out of a pick-up waiting to atttack lower laguna madre after listening to that cd at least 3 times on trip from San Antonio.
Personally I think most country music is repulsive, but Willie Nelson is a great song writer and has been around all genres of music. He is truly much more than just a country artist. When he recorded Stardust with his renditions of the classics his label didn't want any part of it and he got a hard time by most of the music industry. Willie proved great music works in all music forms. Stardust remains Willies best selling album.
He'd covered and written so many great songs in his career. I wish he'd finally get the full recognition he really deserves. As funny as some of the "front row at a Willie Nelson concert" jokes are, I'd love to see him finally recognized as the tremendous talent he is.
Recognition he deserves? Willie is a universally beloved American legend. I know so many people who can't stand "country" music that love Willie Nelson.
awesome! long live willie nelson! this video rocks, especially when he throws on his bandanna and jams out that solo. i have never seen a video of this, thanks!
That Stardust album....Oh-MY.....he took REALLY old songs...and totally walked away with them! Moonlight thru the pines, kids!

@barbarianatgate Stardust was written
by Hoagy Charmichael a pianist
from the deep south

@JCPUTT
Hoagy wasn't from the deep South - he's from Bloomington, Indiana.

Thanx 88 I've been misled. And the guy wrote the
theme song I played on trombone with a dance
band in the 50s. Maybe hearing him speak led
me to that false conclusion. Ya know some of
those Hoosiers have a pretty twangy accent.
Did U ever hear the Hoosier Hot Shots?
