  • Anna Torv totally nails this scene. Joshua nails the facial expression at the end. Just perfect. Best show on tv

  • i love this scene. poor peter and liv, everytime they get together something happens. now its because of the stupid observers.

  • the way she cries...OMG i'm in love !!!

  • Anna Torv deserves the biggest EMMY ever

  • the saddest moment on season 3

i can see it over and over

  • Awww! He said he was sorry but too late!

  • BEST SCENE EVER MADE!

  • Way to go, SPAZWAY. You'd make a better coach than a player.

  • "And I don't wanna be with you." That's SAD!

  • i understand BOTH sides sooo much

i understand how she feels but would YOU know that this wasnt the real olivia

    puuuu pooorrr peter.

i cry with both of them

that was such an damn great scene ^^

  • i was so sad with her, when i watch this seance

  • The "quicker with a smile" line certainly didn't do him any favours.

  • Damn, I just love this scene.

  • And also to the posters below, this isn't ill intended just stating facts, but Peter did say something at the end; he said I'm sorry. Turn up the volume, you can hear it...

  • Everyone seems to have a lot of opinions about this scene; all I can tell you: this scene ripped my heart out. It's just downright sad. Nothing more, nothing less.

  • I can honestly say that I understand where they're both coming from, and can I say that I bawled? I do NOT ship characters in over 99 percent of the fandoms I'm in, but Fringe is one of the very few that I can actually see it and like it.

  • yeah she wasny you.she was better then you..

you have peter what you waiting for? she did what you couldnt make....peter

  • they're really good actors. It's perhaps a little bit too late to notice that but in this season their feelings are more intense and they really know how to interpret them.

I love this scene. Peter is so cute when he's crying^^

  • I seriously can watch this scene over and over again and each time I feel like crying =( poor Olivia and poor Peter! I really hope they can figure things out because I would love them together

  • Anna was soooo great in this ep! :) Love her!

  • @BBman83 yeah everybody loves Anna and Olivia and everyone hates Peter. Wonderful trade off!

  • i just feel so sorry for the two of them..It's like peter was what Liv had to hold onto over there and now she finds out that he's accidently been with this imposter all that time while she was almost getting her brains removed and running for her life...i hope the next episode helps them out a little.

  • i feel so sorry for them both right now :(

  • Peter and Olivia are not very fast at doing it, it took them two years to share a little softy baby kiss, and when one of them finally wants to do it, he takes the wrong person ! In some ways Fringe could be a comedy ! lol

  • I love when she says the second "And I understand that..." because you can tell she's getting really angry and upset. Anna Torv is really amazing!

  • I think that Peter/Josh was excellent in this scene and Olivia/Anna was awesome. I agree, Peter couldn't really say anything.

The part that really bothers me is that on some level Peter knew something was off, he said as much in "Do Shapeshifters Dream Electric Dreams?", I think thats the title, and he still didn't want to see it. There were hundreds of indicators and most people notice they just didn't want to see it or even think it was possible.

  • @FawnCC I think it was just a trick from the writers in order to bother us, because at that time there was still a doubt about the fact that Peter knew or not, but now it"s clear he really didn't know.

  • I mean really, things would have been TOTALLY different if Peter and Olivia were in the middle of a fantastic romance, she pissed Peter off some way and he went to the alternate universe, etc. By the way, think of it from Peter's POV as well. Peter has to look at the face of the same woman who duped him. I'm sure the only reason why Peter seemed cold is that Peter probably wanted space from her as well.

  • Fab, think for a moment here. Peter and Olivia DID NOT have a romance BEFORE the switch so why would Peter tell Olivia that he loves her? Peter and Olivia were friends, that's the bottom line. Sure peter must have been harboring feelings for her but it was OLIVIA who kept pushing him away. Now really, STOP critcizing Peter all the time.

Fringe is not a fairy tale where Peter is the prince and Olivia is the damsel in distress who needs a boyfriend, all right?

  • @MayBrainLee1 you forgot about the kiss over ther in season 2 finale, there was something starting between them , that's why Peter started to date Bolivia. On onother hand I'm not a great fan of fairy tales either, but I don't think saying I love you or make your beloved understand your real feelings is a stupid thing to do.

  • @FabsieKaa Sharing a kiss doesn't always equate to "relationship" you know. We don't know if Olivia would have opened her heart if the switch never happened. Would Olivia have still been the same emotionally closed off woman she was?

But see , saying I love you is a BIG DEAL for a couple. BTW, even if Peter did say I love you, from Liv's POV, she will question that. "Do you love ME" or do you "Love the ME that you had a relationship with". So its a no win situation for Peter.

  • im sorry really thats all he could say!

  • I declare to everyone that I'm in love with Anna Torv and her performances this season. Anna Torv for an Emmy right now!

  • This scene was heartbreaking for both Olivia and Peter. For him to see the devastating effect that the Altivia has wrought on her life and for them...to confess just how much he mattered even when she thought he was an illusion-Peter did the right thing. He withstood her anger and pain and let her air it, adding to his already huge burden of guilt-because he thinks he deserves it. It would be selfish of him to be emotional right now. Olivia needs time. An I love you would ring false to her now.

  • I hope that Olivia will move on, and find another apartment, because Bolivia slept in her bed, and remember she killed someone in the kitchen, too mch bad vibes there isn't it ?

  • I suppose the show runners asked Josh not to be too emotional, but for me it doesn't fit with the situation. The writers don't want Peter and Olivia to be together yet that's all. I hope they delay it because they are gioing to explore the human dimension of every caracter, and then we will get that little family back, and P & O united, so they can find a way to avoid our world to be swallowed by Waleternate's machine.

  • This might be the best scene of the entire show.

  • "She's taken everything" That line kind of gutted me because it was the essential truth. And i dont blame Peter. I feel sorry for him as i do feel Olivia's pain. As difficult as this is for her, it cant be easy for him either.

  • I love this scene, so moving. Both characters/actors were perfect. She's angry and hurt he's feeling guilty and used. As others have stated, what could he really say to rectify the situation? He knew when he told her the truth it would most likely change her feelings for him but he wanted to do the right thing. Both of them have paid a high price for the deception.

  • "She's taken everything" SHE CERTAINLY DID and not just from Olivia

  • What would you do if you were in Peter's situation? Exactly. It's not easy to think of a good response, right? From how I see it, Peter's feeling guilty - he couldn't really say much. All of us probably couldn't. And if I were him I'd be very, very careful right now coz, I mean, you don't wanna do something emotional and end up making everything even worse. And I believe, despite the cold look and everything, Peter cares - otherwise he wouldn't tell Olivia about all this in the first place.

  • @darkntwisty05 I agree that Peter cares and I think the distant look is more because he's sitting there watch his world fall apart while he had been hanging on to hope all episode that maybe things might just turn out OK. And like you said Peter feels extremely guilty, basically everything Olivia says to him Peter has already been blaming himself for, he feels exactly the same way she does. So if he blames himself for everything, why would he try to come up with a response?

  • @darkntwisty05 Do you remember in the season 2 finale, when Olivia kisses Peter, for the first time. He has this quite cold attitude, even keeping his left hand in his pocket, like he thought, oh really, yes why not, whatever... But he comes back for her, he clearly doesn't like to show his feelings, But now in this messy situation he should have said what Olivia needs to hear somthing like I love You.

  • @FabsieKaa And you practically have forgotten that Peter JUST found out his real father wanted to use him for the machine, he found out Walter wasn't his father, he found out he is from the alternate universe which Walter and Olivia lied to him about. Now really Fab, there IS more to Peter tahn being Olivia's freaking boyfriend all right? he DID have other things on his mind. Jeez.

  • @FabsieKaa He should've said something - yep, true, but I guess he's scared. He doesn't wanna hurt her even more. IDK. Like, who am I to judge? All I know is that they belong together, they both know that too, they just need to get through all this mess.

  • @darkntwisty05 Yeah well, Peter is not perfect nor says the perfect things. Not sure why people have these high expectations of Peter. If the writers wanted Peter to say something, they would have had Peter say something, if the writers wanted to have Peter cry, they would have. I wish people would stop expecting Peter to be a big crybaby or to say these big declarations of love. HELLO! He hasn't had a romance in what 2 years? BTW, Peter isn't exactly the type of person to TELL his feelings

  • and to show it. He is NOT Walter or olivia who always have a pity party everytime something bad happen to them. Maybe Peter was bought up to be tough, strong and not cry all the time. That's who Peter is, not the Peter me, you or anybody else wants him to be. BTW, just the fact that Peter didn't say anything is only proves that he is guilty of what he has done which shows HE HAD TAKEN RESPONSIBLITY for his own actions. Remeber how he sold Walter's books? He was dead up honest with Walter

  • and told him. so, get over the fact that Peter is not a carbon copy of Pacey Witter who can say the right things at the right time to the right women and understand that yes, peter screwed up and stop complaning about it and watch next year's episode and see where Peter and Olivia stand. Hopefully they will be more mature than some people on here.

  • @darkntwisty05 I couldnt tell either! Even after showing Olivia imprisoned in the alternate universe, i was like ''Why is Alterlivia imprisoned by Walternate?'' lol that's how stupid I am x)

  • I'm really not sure about Peter's feelings, look at this detached and cold look at 1:34, it makes me shiver, he is just staring at her cold as ice, like he doesn't care.

  • @FabsieKaa I disagree with that comment

I personally think he regrets it and feels sad

  • The look on Peter's face at 2:02 is perfect. He's holding back so much sadness and anger, at himself and Altivia. He can't say anything because what would he say?

He's stuck there completely alone dealing with everything completely helpless and guilty.

    Josh played this scene perfectly.

  • This scene broke my heart..... and when he compared the both of them and said the ALT-liv would smile...that also broke my heart.... Anna torv is kicking ass this season and I think that Peter does care but is realizing he needs to give her space otherwise she will never want to be with him. I think this case just hit close to home for Olivia and made her think about what Peter could have done. It is just a heartbreaking scene but I am sure we will be rewarded at the end of the season.

  • It's horrible how Peter doesn't seem to care, he just says I'm sorry, I'm sorry, if he loved her he should be devastated and play it more emotional, he is cold, He shouldn't be able not to cuddle her or cry is he really loved her, I'm really desapointed, I think that Olivia should try to move on and find another guy very quickly.

  • @FabsieKaa I think Peter seems to care immensely, he's just not on his knees bawling and Olivia doesn't do that either. Sure she's more outwardly emotional than he is in this scene but she's still pretty reserved for what happened. I think he did what he was supposed to. She doesn't want to hear what he has to say right now so he gave her space and just let her rant. Eventually though I do think he's going to have to express his feelings, it just wasn't the right time then.

  • @FabsieKaa wow, so if you honestly expect Peter to be a big crybaby then its YOU doesn't know Peter all that well. Talk about hypocritical. Peter hater!

  • @MayBrainLee1 Have you ever loved someone ? Because when we love someone we can't be so detached that our beloved thinks you don't care, because the important message "I love you" must be given in some way, it's not necessary to cry, but normally you can't hide your feelings, there should be more emotion in Peter's behaviour.

  • @FabsieKaa well the directors DON'T WANT TO SHOW PETER BEING EMOTIONAL. They want Anna to get all the emotional work just so she can get an emmy. Believe me, Josh is VERY good at heartbreak (go watch dawson's creek) but the idiots who make the show CLEARLY don't want Josh to act.

  • @FabsieKaa It'd be out of character for Peter to be hugely demonstrative after Olivia's outpouring. At this point, there really is nothing he can do or say because this rift, this violation of Olivia's life, has happened. They can only move forward. Emotional outbursts would be pointless, unless they've cathartic purposes, like Olivia's.

Secondly, Peter's emotions right now are not the violent ones, like anger. They're the weighted, incredibly personal emotions of guilt, grief, self-loathing.

  • @huh8888 Exactly. An outburst is exactly what Olivia does NOT want right now. She doesn't want to hear him try and defend what he did or make excuses. And her cathartic emotional outburst was very necessary, like you said. Peter knows that and so he let her have her moment and took what she dished out. That's how Peter has always been and how he needs to be at the moment.

  • @dpilz28 You know, its funny how Olivia kept a secret about Peter for weeks and Peter had to find out all my himself and got pissed off at her and Walter. But here she is all upset at Peter for TELLING HER THE TRUTH. I mean really, talk about being a hypocrite. What would she expected him to do? Keep it hidden for weeks just to find out about it through somebody else? LOL.

  • @dpilz28 so why is it so hard for some people to realize this is in character and necessary?

  • @huh8888 Because they want Peter to be the perfect boyfriend who can do no wrong. That's why.

  • @MayBrainLee1 if that's what they want, then they should go watch something like Grey's Anatomy or whatever the rest of America is Soma-ed on right now.

  • @MayBrainLee1 I don't want Peter to be perfect. I think this was an awesome scene and very in character for both of them, I just think that it's going to be interesting and I really want to know what this is going to do to Peter and Walter's relationship; and there is my earlier comment about why Peter and everyone else bothers me a little!

  • @huh8888 I wish I knew, unfortunately, I have no idea.

  • @FabsieKaa Unless you have watched the scene, you would realized that Peter wasn't cold. You actually saw him go and touch Olivia but SHE was the one who recoiled. And at 0:19, you saw him get close to her right? You actually saw him ASK Olivia what's the matter? Now, really, Fabsiekaa, just because Peter wasn't blubbering like a baby that doesn't mean he didn't care. he cared enough to hear her through! He could have just walked away in shame but he sat there and listened to her.

  • @FabsieKaa I don't have a boyfriend and I sure as hell don't have a "fairy tale" view of what love is, thank you very much.

  • i had tears in my eyes.......

  • This scene was gut-wrenching. It was so sad to see how equally broken both of them are and Peter's "I'm sorry" to an empty garden was just the perfect ending. However, as rough as this scene was I think it's exactly what needed to happen between the two in order for them to be able to fix their relationship so they can really be together, which despite the problems now, they both still obviously want. Olivia needs space and time and eventually she'll come around and realize Peter does love her.
