  • That clip of film is priceless.

  • Felice Bryant, real name Matilda Genevieve Scaduto and her husband Boudleaux wrote this beautiful melody.

  • THIS IS THE BEST - WOW - THANK YOU JAMES AND CARLY

  • Beautiful song

  • If they were able to do such great things together, even if it was just for the sake of music... why buddies? Wishing you the best...

  • It's funny, everyone makes such a big deal about James touring and recording with Carole King, but no one harmonized with him better than Carly Simon did, not to mention all the songs they co-wrote together. It is a shame he won't speak to her because I for one would love to see them do a show together once more...for old times sake! I bet their kids would love that too!!

  • @cogadimma :He never even mentioned her name in his autobiography. I think the love was one-sided.....hers. In videos of them he rarely even glances at her while she is obviously mad for him. Who knows.

  • I only found this song recently...really like the harmony!!!

  • "Devoted to You" is a song written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant.

The best-known version was recorded by The Everly Brothers, and released by Cadence Records as catalog number 1350. This version was issued as the flip side of "Bird Dog," but reached the charts on its own, at #10 on the United States pop charts, #25 in Australia, and #1 in Canada. In addition, the song reached #7 on the United States country music chart and #2 on the rhythm and blues chart.

  • Carly and James in happier times. They hit #36 in Billboard, 9-30-78. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • Too bad Carly failed to keep this true. What great talent together, thankfully they had children together to pass this amazing gift onto the next generations.

  • WOW, this is gorgeous!!!!!! :D

  • "it's sad that my marriage and"...... I'm sorry for typing so fast and not checking for typo's which I always make--because I can't type! But I say I'll check my grammar and spelling, and I never do! :+(

  • Now, these two made some of the prettiest music we have from the 60's to the 80's! It's sad that these two greats couldn't make their marriage work--and it's sad that I and about 50 percent of marriages end in divorce! Oh, if only......! Peace, BobbyK

  • For the best to you both!! Separated but happy and successful on your both rights!!

  • Let's see ... James Taylor and Carly Simon, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Edward VIII and Wally Simpson ... how many Titanics plus Icebergs can you count?

  • Thanks!

  • So nice

  • They are from heaven-Soul mates!

  • @charlene12341234 For some reason they haven''t been for the last decade or so. I'm not sure what the current status is, but the Wikipedia page says that James really wants nothing to do with her while Carly wishes they could be closer friends. If I had to hazard a guess, it would be that James' current wife, Caroline "Kim" Smedvig probably noticed that James tends to get depressed when he has to deal with Carly and encouraged him to stay distant for his own sake.

  • This sounds too good to be true. It's like a fairytale song.

  • There are some times that stand alone, this is one of them.

  • Such A Very Lovely Share Gary - Thankyou ..Anita..:)

  • devoted not can you spell divorce, new you could. She the one hit wonder is off key and james, was the talent anyway...

  • Lovely.

  • Boudleaux Bryant is the songwriter.

  • the everly brothers wrote this song

  • Carly Simon is awesome!

  • such a cute couple!

  • they had the sweetest harmony....wish they were still devoted to each other!

  • É uma pena que o mundo esteja perdendo essa simplicidade...sentimentos de amor, amizade, alegria , que nao espera nada em troca...hoje em dia isso é cada vez mais incomum...o que temos hoje sendo transmitido em nossas musicas atuais???

  • I bet James is trying to hide his erection with that guitar! lol Carly Simon was hot. Not so much in this vid but she was. She dated Mick Jagger.

  • I'm seriously missing you!

  • nothing can explain my love for you like this!! You are the love of my life!

  • Nothing can explain my love for like this!!!! You are the love of my life!!

  • James Taylor sings harmony every bit as well as he does melody. Have any of you ever heard him sing harmony to himself? SUPERB. Check out songs like "Golden Moments" and "Slow Burnin' Love" both on the "In The Pocket" album. You WONT regret it.

  • Party animals!!

  • Thanks for sharing the clip - it was, indeed, lovely.

So sad that to this day James will not speak to, or of, Carly. At least we all have the music and the memories.

  • I think that use to come on in the mornings around 1977

  • I remember watching this when it aired in 1977! What a neat time for music that was.

  • two well written and talented people.. they had an education, too.. imagine that these day... !

  • Alvin and the Chipmunks would have KILLED this song !

  • Great memories. @sassyreggae the hair was a 70's thing. Although I wore mine straight back then same as now. Guess I'm stuck there lol

  • Nice!

  • amazing...!

  • Classic.

  • yes, lovely is the word

  • What an absolute jewel!

  • Shit she is one ugly woman

  • @MrSteveUtah Look in the mirror asshole !!

  • @MrSteveUtah - she may be ugly to you, but she's "ugly" all the way to the bank!! Whats your broke, ugly behind doing??

  • Im devoted to you

  • I remember (pretty sure) that the Everly Bros. did this tune way before these two. But Carly & James sang it beautifully as well as Phil & Don did.

  • @rickygeorge77 Linda Rondstat (sp) did a cover of this as well. JT is one of my favorites, so I like this version more, lol.

  • Beautiful.

  • roger emerson wrote this song... we sang this song in choir...

  • emerson is alright, and that's super, but it must've not meant too much to him to allow James Taylor and Carly Simon to sing it. well, maybe he did make some money.

  • what a gorgeous, fantastic lullaby this could make

  • Lovely couple! How I wish they lasted longer! they are terrific musicians.

  • @NaturVita They're marriage of about 9 years is a lifetime compared to what many celebrity couples last nowadays.

  • @NaturVita they remind me of my mom and dad:-)

  • Wow I've never seen this. Obviously kinda crummy video (and what's with Carly's hair?) but well worth it to see these 2 w/ their beautiful harmony and deep love. Now if JT would do a Reunion tour w/ Carly, that would be something , lol. He has sung w/ many wonderful female singers but his pairing w/ Carly. . . . well, 5 stars isn't enough.

  • @sassyreggae the hair was one of the many styles back then, it was like a shag, or some called it a gypsy... Do you ever look back at pics and laugh at your hair, etc.? these vids are about the music, and if you happen to take note on the hair, closthes, etc. well it is all well and good by the way this har was back in in the eighties, and if you are too young and or weren't born, do your homework,a nd then make your comments... gee!

  • @noiui . . Had to go back and reread comment. And laugh.

Yes, I'm old enough. Just found her messier than she usually appears. Maybe just a bad hair day ;-) No big deal.

ps according to the post-er, this was 1977 not the 80's, so maybe you should do homework also, lol :-)

  • @sassyreggae I didn't say this was the eightees , sorry if you took it wrong i said" it was "back in" in the eightees, remember? that is why I thought you were too young perha[s to remember, sorry for the misinterpretation. have a good evening, it's nice chatting on here, and wondering what others think. .. could also have been bad hair day, I have them often these days!

  • @sassyreggae lol @ the hair. unfortunately in the 70s we thought that style was cool!

  • @mysterious1961 Well it was, so of course we did. I still have some of mine.

  • @rvcrvc2 So do I. I really love the 70s!

  • @sassyreggae It's the Farrah Fawcett 'do

  • @sassyreggae The 70s were the time of layers (hair.)

  • So beautiful in it's innocent simplicity of melody and sentiment.

  • love you carly

  • If the world was rid of bigots an racists the we would all live in a better place.

  • and people like you!

  • They are not perfectly match.

  • "I'll never hurt you, I'll never lie" -- uh huh. James you done broke Carly's heart dude. GREAT couple, too bad the drugs did them in.

  • the song was written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant. They were a married couple --- he was a classically trained violinist, and she was the lyricist and poet.

  • i remember my mom .... nice song

  • They don't look at each other while singing.

  • It looks like she looks at him but he doesn't look at her. Consistent with his distance from her in their relationship..

  • She's looking at him almost the whole time. Love hurts.

  • They sure sounded good together.

  • Great couple!!!

    although finally was...divorced, from you.

  • They were awesome!

  • That beautiful lady looks alot like, Karen Carpenter, and yes she does sound quite similar to Karen. The man too looks kind a lot like Richard. Thanks for posting. E. Kalepa

  • Before internet is a nice try at an excuse, but you make it your business to know your profession. People did that before the internet. Better she hadn't said a thing about who wrote it than "I don't know who wrote it." I repeat. Singers should know who wrote the songs they cover, and writers and singers like Carly should absolutely know.

  • I agree.....saying that is very disrespectful......she should have just said nothing.

  • they were talking about the song before the clip starts and so we don't know why she says she don't know who wrote the song.

  • Carly, a songwriter and a good one, not knowing who wrote it. Tsk Tsk.

  • Before internet so i cut her some slack for not knowing the writer of this song,

  • Timeless, exquisite song written by Boudleaux and Felice Bryant for the Everly Brothers. It was a big hit for the Everlys.

  • Many years ago, my husband and I used this for our wedding song. Beautifully sung by James & Carly.

  • really nice song.

  • Back when they were great singers and partners together. love you Carly!!!

  • I am so happy to discover this video. I remember when it aired.. I feel in love with the song ever since. I have the original recording with the Everyly Brothers as they mention... but this performance is so endearing... Thanks to you who upploaded the video... thanks indeed..

  • i think they were married about 5 more years. but i think the drugs just got in the way.

  • Have followed their music forever, reading the lyrics written by each, trying to figure out the meaning in their relationship. I read somewhere that after years of heroin addiction, Carly finally asked James to leave. He still would come over daily for years. A forever love story and I only dream that they could be together. James is secretive and Carly is openly cathartic. He has an arcane vocabulary of words new to the English language-Mr. Brilliant; Carly is loveable, gifted & honest.

  • Interesting ... thanks for sharing

  • you can't believe all that you hear or read....tsk tsk tsk!!!!

  • You can almost see the icicles forming as they were singing it...it must have been toward the end...

  • Love you James, but that haircut is awful! You look better bald.

  • This just sucks!

  • Are you kidding , they never even look at each other and whoever asked what happened ,ask Carly how long she should have put up with a drug abuser of a husband! any more mellow and they would have been asleep

  • what a mellow, warm perfect duo.Thanks

  • Great clip. First time to see this, I wish I could have a copy of this. thanks

  • They seem so happy, i wonder what happened.

  • It is lovely that they sing so simply and just honor that beautiful song.

  • What did James say at the end?

    sobering Simon...???

what did the other guy say in response...

    -Thanks-

  • "Sobering sentiment" and "Lovely".

  • It certainly is...

    Thanks a lot~

  • "Sobering sentiment"? I can't quite make it out. But your interpretation makes more sense.

I love Carly & James (together and apart) but hoo-eee, some of the harmonies in this performance are a little haywire.

  • Thanks for posting this lovely cover...!!!!!!!

  • Devoted to You" was written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant and published in 1958.

The best-known version was recorded by The Everly Brothers. It was also recorded by James Taylor and Carly Simon, appearing on Simon's 1978 album, Boys in the Trees.

Listen to the beginning of this clip carefully Carly Simon admits it was popularized by The Everlys.....!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Carly is the most divine woman! Classy! Beautiful! Amazingly talented! She & James made the most incredible harmonies seem so effortless. What a JOY this video is!!!

  • Devoted to you was one of my favorite during my elementary days (Camp Evangelista Elem.School) Patag, Cagayan De Oro City, in fact this was my very first song memorized when i was just a kid.

  • omg i love this song soo much !!!

  • Thank U

  • This song is dedicated to Christy Brinkley... A-Rod and Madonna...The couch-jumper...and any other celebrities who thought they had some morals.

  • I wonder if the song is about him. heh, heh, heh...

  • Along with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, these are two people that seemed made for each other.

  • Haha- I love James's little wave at the beginning; adorable! Also- such an amazing pair... they sang beautifully together, and both are very incredible artists. Love this! :)

  • Beautiful song and they harmonize so beauitfully together. I noticed she kept looking at him while singing and he never looks at her until the end. Due to the lack of eye contact (on both parts) I sense they were having difficulty in their relationship. So sad, they were beautiful together... but of course, what do I know?

  • Oh my God, James Taylor had hair!

  • thnak you for posting it.....i love Carly and James

  • This song can be found on the Carly Simon album "Boys in the Trees" from 1978.

  • ive been lookin for that song boys in the trees

  • Wow! Thank you for posting! Love them since childhood.

  • Wife and I sang this at our wedding...17 years and 2 daughters later we're divorced. Guess it didn't stick. Great great song, though...I still love it. And even though I've moved on...I still love the ex. Hope she's happy. That's right, Mr. Cavett...LOVELY!

  • Thank you for posting! What a timeless song performed by 2 great artists.

  • Terrific and very rare! Thank you!
